It's so painful too. People come up to me saying they wish they had my condition cause then they could loose weight. However, every time I come in contact with gluten it creates a week-long painful reaction that makes me feel like a pumpkin being carved out into a jack-o-lantern. My head feels like it's in a vice with stabbing pains. It hurts so much that its hard to breath. My digestive system feels like someone doused it in gasoline, lit it on fire, and then put it through a food processor.
I have Celiac Disease and it's more than an intolerance. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disease. When gluten comes in contact with the micro-villi of the small intestine, a Celiac's white blood cells attack the organ and kill off all the villi. This renders the organ unable to digest nutrients.
This is so tragic. I have been sick for as long as I can remember. I was only just diagnosed Oct.29,08. I am now 34 and am facing numerous other physical ailments. Anemia, osteoperosis and others.
I have been in and out of hospitals for years and even saw GI docs. They couldn't figure it out. They told me I was "fine" and to just go home. My life has been robbed from me until now. I'm only now beginning to hope that with my diet change I will begin to heal. I am so sorry for your loss.
I just got off the phone with my best friend we are 13 and she just told me she had Celiac Disease, this was very useful thank you this was very useful
My two year old daughter has celiac disease.. We found out when she was a year old.. I have also been diagnosed with celiac disease.. my daughter gets so mad at not being able to eat foods like her gramma and her auntie and uncka bubby..
