It is great to see these guys get another engine up and running. It has been awhile, but I really enjoyed seeing this place.Alot of great pieces are here. Now if they would just get that Santa Fe FP-45 running, all would be right with the world....LOL...Great job guys.
Nice video. I used to live in Chicago, on the North West side, at Nagle Ave & the C&NW crossing. Heard MANY locos there. Miss it now. The Norwood Park underpass was a great place to see trains up-close. I can still smell the creosote, & see the headlight way down the track. I get to Union every so often. Thanks.
No doubt.....if this guy actually worked for a railroad and wasn't a buff at a museum...he would stand a good chance of gettin' fired. Thats one of the dumbest, unsafe things Ive ever seen. Been at it for 19+ yrs......this guy in the vid is making a dumb move
@traingp7 - Quit trying to assert yourself into places where you are not needed. Are you a FRA member, or have any connection too? Didn't think so. This is a privately owned museum, the FRA can't touch them. The workers can stand where they want understanding their own liability if they get injured.
It's a true testament to the reliability of the EMD 567 engine. check out a buddy of mine starting up an old EMD G12 here in norway; search for: "DE100 G12 in Kirkenes"
Those 2 trash 9s are NOT CNWs. Not with UP plows, UP numberboards, UP air conditioners, UP horns, missing door windows, and GPS equipment on the roof. And if you saw CNW the same way I did, the fact that they have widenose cabs only makes them less of CNWs.
Currently they're stuck in the Belvidere loop because they'll get shoved into storage if they stray too far from Proviso.
All I asked was are they still in C&NW paint. I apologize if I upset you in anyway. Personally, that's what constitutes being C&NW. Still having the original paint scheme without a patch. I didn't realize so much more went into that. Again, I apologize if I touched a nerve. It was entirely unintentional.
You are forgiven. I put up with so many duo droolers that it's made me bitter with a tendency to lash out at anyone i suspect of liking them. They've done a lot to drag CNW through the mud and all those people who chase them...man it just gets to me. Sorry I roughed ya so bad.
In my eyes, only a spartan cab unit could be a CNW. Well, and high hoods. The widecabs were purely CNW when they were delivered, but I never saw any so they're just as fake as everything else to me.
Amen to that, buddy! The dash 8 is a very cool locomotive and has historical signifficance. However I would like to see a widecab in its as-delivered appearance having never seen one before. not to mention CNW worked alongside GE to design the C44-9W. So either unit would be cool with me. As long as IRM is willing to do so.
Man, I haven't been to IRM in what is it, 7 or 8 years now. I want to say August 12, 2001. That was a great day for the most part. Got to ride the NZ. It was so awesome.
I like your view. To hell with mega mergers. The CNW seemed to be a great RR all it's own. The bell ine the nose on some of it's locomotives was such a signature touch.
No, don't paint it in RI blue. In fact, don't paint it at all. I like the look of an old workhorse who's been through hell and back and still running.
You know it will work after 10 years of Idle cause its an EMD. If it was GE, it would have exploded or not work at all!

Agreed. I was watching the C&NW Mainline West video earlier. Nothing beats a C40-8 standard cab in that paint scheme of theirs.
fafnir242 3 years ago
They wore the TY scheme the best out of all of CNW's locos. the shape of the nose was perfect for the logo.
MaxInterjects 3 years ago
Indeed. Very sharp looking. I wish IRM could pick one up, that'd be nice.

Except at least 3 other railroads used electric bells on the nose like that.
