The aliens have superior weapons that we can't make work and of course we want to know about their technology (like space travel). Because the aliens' intelligence has been compromised due to their travels, they can't just easily explain things, like "we'll show you our weapons if you fix our ship so we can leave." Humans keep them trapped here because of that.

Im afraid you dont really understand the film, or where its coming from. Its more from peoples point of view, than the aliens. The unlikely hero, who turns into one of them, is actually quite refreshing in an Alien sci-fi film, and hasnt really been done alot when you think bout it. The humans dont really know alot bout the aliens yet, remember they are still trying to work out their technology, also, do we ever learn where ET came from??

It looks great thanks to all the advances in computer visual aids. The team responsible for 'lord of the rings' worked on this film, The advertising here in the U.S. was fantastic, could not wait to see the movie. The plot, a clever twist on aliens coming to earth- they are treated with disrespect and racist hatred. But this doesn't last. 30 minutes into the movie you realise that the same plots and storylines are being used and it devolves quickly into the same action movie. Guns,blood, gore.

My complaint is the dumbing down of every movie made today. The corporations that distribute these movies can and do change aspects of the film so it will reach the maximum number of people. District 9 finally went into cinemas in Taiwan a few weeks ago. I went to it with a few of my friends, hyping them with all the positive reviews. All of them liked it, though a couple of them find it a bit bleak and heavy to watch. In my opinion though, it's an exciting thrill ride with a little creativity, but it's indeed not all that deep and original. I liked it a lot, finding it easy to enjoy, while managing to concisely and sharply, yet not deeply, point out a few problems in human nature.

first of all it had a good story line and it is really rare to find a good graphical movie these days that have a good story line. it had action and blood but not too over the top with blood, yea they exploding into bits but common you would expect that to happen. and the aliens looked pretty cool and also the actors were great as well cause i like seeing different kinds of actors with a proper accent or something instead of bradd pit or tom cruise
