Holy man!! We go wheelin in the snow around here alot (southern Oregon) and this is my biggest fear always. Came close twice....once about hald way up....and then at the very tip top. We go snow wheeling on wagner butte.
You may have a point if I were rolling towards that side! I've actually rolled that jeep 8 other times besides this one. Not so dramatic, but this was the 16th roll for this jeep.
To answer your question, I held the steering wheel & leaned back into my seat, right before I passed out. I was actually relaxed, & thought I'd be found in the bottom of the canyon.
I cracked my right wrist on the inner cage, & a head gash @ 10.5 sec.
Just wanted to know if you lost any fingers on your left hand? DONT EVER HOLD ON TO THE ROLL BAR OR ANY THING OUTSIDE OF YOUR RIG UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO LOSE IT. I have rolled my self before and i know how easy it can be to just grab the first thing you see. But i have also seen to many people lose body parts because they dont listen to the nags like me about keeping your body parts inside the rig at all times.I hope all is well for you and hope your rig was salvagable.Stay safe on the trail.
someone just posted this on FB and omg that looked so innocent and went bad in a hurry, I hope you are able to make a full recovery. We take a chance any time we step foot in our rig, but hope this never happens. Get well fellow Jeeper!!
Glad you walked away and the Jeep will hit the trail again. Kudos to whoever shot the video that they held it on the Jeep till it went out of view. I have told my wife and friends... if I ever roll, the entire thing better be captured! That they wouldn't be able to help me until it stopped anyways, so might as well capture it. I would be pissed to see ground and feet just as it started to go over.
@gtgraham1970 I certainly feel fortunate! That not only did I walk away with from it, but it got caught on video! I've taken many risks over the years for the camera. Very seldom does it actually turn into good footage. This was definitely a "once in a lifetime" shot!!!
Thanks for watching! Keep Jeepin' & fight to keep the trails open.
I live up here in yakima, and go wheelin often. I gotta tell ya, thats the scarest feeling seeing a friend go through something like that. Another having it happen to you. Im glad hes ok and the jeep held together.
It's been 3 months now, & I'm still having neck problems. I'm trying acupuncture for the first time. It seems to help. The jeep is almost ready for a Thanksgiving run.
Thats insane!...You must be one tough ...or rubber dude! All that bouncing and only some minor dents..good to hear. Anything left to fix, or just replace?
@VMX540fan Rich, The sign at the beginning of the road said 7030, & so did my atlas. Somewhere in the W. Cascades is good enough.
I had a lengthy visit with Ian, & called several times. He sent me an SD disk. Would you like me to send it to you? I couldn't do much with it since it's an apple file. I let youtube do the converting.
@VMX540fan Yep, traveling north, slid off east. I was told the story by the Forest Service agent. He said 8 times 250 - 300'. Oh well! I'm happy he returned the video.

@steven12395 Good advice . I was told to cross my arms and grab the harness if we ever rolled . Keeps your arms from going into dangerous places .

When I cross checked references I found a road number issue.
The USFS says the road number is 7038 and Google says it is 7036.
I believe USFS is more likely correct.

Man just as scary as when I shot it.
How did you get the file from the Ranger Ian Cannan?
They said they would send a flash drive, but never got back to me.

Get the facts straight.
Road number is 7036 South East of Greenwater Washington.
Lat-lon is 47.128245 N, 121.39330 W
Elevation was 5428 feet.
There were two wraps left on Carl's winch drum with his 175 foot winch line.
You slipped off the east side of the drift.

Give Rich Rudman some credit.
He shot it with his phone.

I got knocked out after 3 rolls. I woke up with a head gash, and a cracked wrist. I walked away from the landing, with some whiplash and disoriented.
Spent the rest of the day in an ambulance, and the ER.

Absolutely! a safety strap would've taken few more minutes, to save the day. I'm amazed they drove it out with a little winching.
