I suspect your display is bad. I made a youtube video where I demonstrated how the use of freeze spray can help you determine if the display has a tab bond problem. I think this link should take you to my video. watch?v=Qj51BkS9d-0
After reading some of the comments, the issue could be dirty connections, bad logic board or bad capacitor. If anyone had their tv repaired please list the model and the issue black or red horizontal or vertical line. Please list the component replaced or repaired and the model of the tv. It would be nice to know the price for the repair. I have a Vizio P50 HDTV20A with the same issue shown in the video. (red vertical line same location)
Mine has a solid black bar going from right to left, hardly touches left ends about middle but you can see it starting to come in, I have the Red line on my left side. I have "taped" (hit) the back of my tv and tapped the front neither worked. I have messed around (unscrewed rescrewed, unplugged replugged) any and all wires to my tv. Nothing works. Most likely a blown fuse but I have no idea, I'm not a scientist...
Hit my tv with a hammer cause I was mad at my wife - caused a line to go through TV vertically on my 48" Hisense LCD TV - the fix worked like a charm - thanks!!
I got the vertical line today. It is visible on bright colors but not clearly visible on black color. I tried tapping the screen, the plastic frame and back of the TV... but no help. Any other options that i can try? Called Vizio Support and they mentioned that i haven't bought from their authorized dealer so warranty is not applicable :( Please suggest what i can try next.
@petergallo1988 could you tell me did the problem come back that fix sounds like you have bad capacitors and Vizio is only stringing you along until warranty runs out
I cant get the pixel line to go away. I ordered a new Hannspree
32" 1080p LCD Widescreen HDTV from Costco Item # 832932,costco gives 2 years warranty,,,,,flat tv tend to brake a lot more because they digital electronics are more fragile.friend of mine had 3 hdtvs break on to her 4th. but my Vizio tv works fine only if I could get the Pixel line to go away.the Vizio TV model VOJ320F1A ,,,,,, its no fun watching tv with it. HELP. posted video of my problem Sunday 5th 2011
what did the TV guy do to fix it. replace parts.I uploaded a video of my problem. take look.its weird because when I hooked my blu ray player up to it, next morning I noticed it.Pixel line Right to left bottom of the screen.Ive taped massaged the screen.I unplugged and held power button 1 minute. taped the side. resettle the setting and it did not help the problem go away on my vizio. Walmart 1 year warranty was expired.iti department 189 dollars mail to San Jose.ordered new tv Costco 299
I just got that problem couple of Days ago. My Vizio , I'm getting pixel line going right to let kinda like yours is going up. but mine is going across . did u figure out how to fix it. any advice for me that help me????
I have the same problem.. on the right side. sometimes just red some time 5 different solid colors. IF I have it on all day it goes away... If the cabin is cold its really bad on start up! for hrs!
ive just had a 42 inch plasma tv deliverd today replaced through my insurance and what started of a one of thos identical lines that you have on your tv has now become 8 or 9 so now waiting on company ringing me thurs with a view to picking the tv back up and replacing it :/
I have the same line, I just boughtt he TV a week ago (Vizio 42inch 1080P 120Hz), was gone for christmas, I came back and the white vertical line was there but on the right hand side. Can't really see it when it's dark only see it when there's bright colors
Data tab on the LCD panel itself is defective. TV needs a new panel. Thats why when you tap the LCD screen the color changes. If one of the board in the unit was defective then that would not happen.
I was happily playing my x-box 360 online when all of a sudden my T.V went crazy. I had multi coloured horizontal lines all over it but could see a blue background. I turned my T.V off at the switch and turned it back on but the problem worsened. It now starts with a quick "fuzz" then a blue screen. None of the buttons work on the tele or the remote but the power button works when I turn it on. Any Ideas??
damon323 says: Vizio P42HD had vertical lines ~1" thick & left side of the screen would go black periodically. On Craigslist, type TV Repair. I found several TV Repair guys who were not only qualified techs, but much cheaper than local shops! The guy I called knew exactly what was wrong & gave me part # to order. Went on Ebay typed part # & found the Logic Control board for $115 brand new! Repair man installed for $80 and worked! My TV is plasma, yours is an LCD, but i'm pretty sure it'll work!
Replace the logic control board...thats what the problem is and its only going to get worse till you do...I just had mine fixed and thats how I know..hope that helps.
@damon323 that definitely helps. How much did the repair cost you? Did you get it done at a television repair shop or where? Where did you get the part. I want to make sure anyone who sees this video can get information on how to fix it in their area. Thanks!
@sellyourgift Sorry m8.I don't do videos.I repaired a 22 Samsung with the same fault recently that turned out fine. All You do is strip it and then use hot air around 360 Deg to seal the top edge of the panel where the ribbon sits.Br Careful and take your time.
@mickeygovender try to find a video that shows how to do that on youtube and post here so that other people can see what you are talking about and it may help them out. Thanks! I will try that.
@sellyourgift I might make some videos, just no time.Leave a comment if it worked for you.I also used a hot glue gun to add a better seal to that section with the line down it.Might help someone else on here.
@darkpal123 Hi, have you tried googling your model number and calling the manufacturer's tech support. I'm sure they have a little bit of info on what is causing it. Then you can decide if its right for you to try and fix it on your own. Then call some local TV repair places asking them how they have fixed any similar problems. They will tell you if its a $50 fix or $500!
could find some ideas to try. One would be to try a dead pixel fix. search youtube for "stuck pixel" and hook up the tv to your pc and play the video. or i think you can burn or buy a dvd and play it.
@sellyourgift ive got a phillips 37" LCD, i hit the screen kinda hard and the red line has faded, can hardly see it, but its still there, also during this tapping it came back, couple more hits i faded, thats when i left it
@TheUnbeen Yeah it's a strange thing this line on the screen. I wonder if anyone knows how to fix it without replacing the WHOLE screen!? My tapping did nothing, so I didn't tap anymore...you never know if more tapping will break it lol

Thanks for the advice. I also have a VIZIO.
I just unplugged all the connections and then unplugged the power cord. It worked!
I couldn't find my power button so I skipped that. Anyway, when I reconnected everything, no more line. Thank you so much.

@sellyourgift Why'd you pay so much? It was probably just a bad cap or BGA break on your logic control board.

@damon323 If the color shifts or the line(s) completely go away by pressing on the bezel, it can only be a bad connection right?
