  • I have been working on getting me a set up but all i have is a stanton c.324, a djx700 mixer, an axiom 49 keyboard, laptop and speakers. i was using a guitar amp for the longest time. shits expensive. I'm going to buy a power amp off my friend for a good deal. I have a question though. Do I really need an audio computer interface? Or should I just stick with cd's. Tell me if I need anything else to dj also, i think that that is it but you can never be too sure...Thanx in advance.

  • WANG IT OVA!!!

  • impressive, thank mate

  • name of that song used please??

  • it's called "Do or die Bed sty" by Divine Sounds from 1984.

  • pause it at 2:55

  • LOL!!!! he looks like a pirate!!!

  • im pretty sure this is called beat juggling

  • its also called cutting.

  • This is called cutting, it is also called cueing or backcueing, but this is noy beatjuggling. that would be more complex where you use various sections/samples of the record to create a whole new beat or pattern.

  • Yup, you're right! "Beat Juggling" is when you take different parts of two records (could be, for example, a snare part from one record and a high-hat part from another) and cut them in and out to make different complex "drum patterns" and example of a group that did this would be The invisible skratch picklz. What the guy did was clearly cutting. His videos re funny & informative too. LOL yep the Popeye thing he did at 2:55 was hysterical!

  • Yo mate, your fucking bomb titties!

  • Hey I need help

What's a good turntable set for a beginner?

  • In the uk you can buy a set called dj in a box for a few hundred quid from stanton,it has everything you need. this is enough to get you on your way johnathan

  • if you're serious about getting into DJing i'd go straight for the Technic 1200's. best of the best. you can buy a used set for about 600 US dollars. the DJ in a box isn't too bad for basic mixing, but the platters are flimsy and the pickup speed on the belt-drive is slow. go with direct-drive bro. you can get a mixer for 200 or so

  • i like u ur funy m8 :D lol

  • This is basic back to backing. A type of beat jugglin pioneered by the father of hip-hop DJs Kool Herc (Always a good place to start) Beat juggling can go a lot further tho -using 2 different tunes, different parts of the beats, cutting on the half beat, etc. Its endless! If you wanna learn mor abt turntablism check out groups 'real djs talk with their hands' or 'The Real Hip Hop Means The Real Djs'.

ellaskins - Well done for doing this, basics so important for any DJ.

  • nice job, I learned a lot, thank you

  • hi mate its ash can you please show me how to mix and scarce a bit of dance and rave cos thats what im working on right now?

    thanks loads

    ash

  • Hey Ellaskins. Some ppl have already responded, but yes, this is called beat juggling. With regards to eddyzang's comment, reversing the channels on the x-fade is called "hamster style" (made famous by the indestructible Qbert).

  • Thanx!

    johnathan dj tutor

  • you legend!

  • On some mixers or most(I don't know) you can reverse the crossfade if ya know what I mean...I think It's easier with the whole movement of lifting your hand off the left the one..then knocking the fader left to right and vice versa wit the other side...

  • Thanks for that eddyzang!!

  • Some mixers have a 'hamster' switch which will reverse the fader. But all mixers can be set up like this by simply swiching which turntable is plugged into which channel. ie left turntable into the channel on the right (usually channel 2, depends on mixer)and vice-versa.

  • Ive always felt like jggling patterns are easier to achiever normal way.. but ive also always felt its easier to be tight hamster style (oppositely to scratchin) .. hummmmmm can anyone comment on that

  • i liked it...so, your turntableism skils are getting better ha? :D happy 4 u

  • Nice... beat juggling!!! This is where i can really learn from you as i've never done this, or any mixing with hip-hop/rnb. i have mixed drum and bass and breaks though not very much.

    thanks for another top-quality vid

  • i'd say 3. lols most things get really annoying after 3. just in general.

  • oh that is pretty cool!!

i do that on my cd players, but you can only do it so many times before it gets annoying.

  • you don't have to just keep looping the same bit. - beat juggling is endless by messing in a similar way you can create completely new sounds and beats - surely that never get boring.

  • brilliant :D couldnt have made this at a better time 4 me:D fnx broda

  • Isn't that beat juggling? Well done!

  • Hello everyone, Would anyone be interested in making a donation to get the DJ tutor ellaskins[johnathan]a new mixer as a way of saying thankyou for all his excellent DJ'ing lessons and help? I thought of setting up somthing for say 2 weeks where people can donate as much or as little as they like and at the end I'll order the best mixer I can with the money raised and send to him. leave a comment and if there is enough interest I'll start the collection.

  • beat juggling.

  • so is "cutting" the same thing as "beat juggling"?

  • Yes, the terminology used means the same thing, beat juggling is when the dj goes from one toon to the other editing parts of each toon.

  • Not exactly 'cutting' is basically the act of crossing the fader over to the next record. 'Beat juggling' is a series of 'cuts' usually in quick succession to create a loop or new beat.
