Well, in that case, let's go back a bit further than the Mongol empire (Yuan dynasty 1271 -- 1368) even. The Chinese princess Wengchen marrying the Tibetan king Songtsen means, if anything, that all of China would have gone to Tibet as dowry.

Even the Mongol empire history only allows the Mongols, if at all, and not the Han Chinese, to claim Tibet. Sure, we may let you claim all of Tibet, but only after you have recaptured other parts of the Mongol empire, such as Russia, Poland, Iran, etc.

The Qing dynasty was China's last dynasty, and Qing Gov't also took the previous history as their part of history and culture. either Yuan and Qing set (Beijing) as their Capital City.
