  • Very nice, I'm about to purchase the wouxun KG-UV3D and studying for ham license. Nice to see the usefulness of this hobby.

  • thanks for sharing!

  • Hey this is really nice. Glad to see that people are preparing.

  • Im a ham and currently in a CERT course....wonder if this would fly in the New Orleans area......

  • Finally got me a dual band HT. Now I can check into our 440 nets. The 2M nets here provide no info, except when weather nets are called.

  • Doc,

Gotta love being in CERT and Amateur Radio - they belong together. I'm glad, I too got involved with the Eugene-Springfield CERT down the road from you. Its enjoyable and also fun. But, like you being a ER Doc and me being a Volunteer Firefighter and getting involved with our communities it makes the service to our family, neighbors and friends our lives just a tad better in the service we to the community as a whole.

    73's,

    Jeff KE7OUR

  • I'm just getting into ham radio, thanks for the interesting videos.

  • We need a net like this in Southern middle Tennessee. All of our nets are nothing but chit chat, nothing of value.

  • Dumb Question< is your wrist watch a MTM Special Ops Watch

  • @1TacticalMedic - No, although I did check out their website after getting your comment! My watch is made by TruGlo. I did a short review on the watch perhaps 6 months ago. If you do a search on my YT channel for TruGlo you will find all the details.

  • Awesome video!!

  • I am relatively new to ham radio having just received my General License a couple of months ago. These regularly scheduled nets never cease to be interesting. I can not imagine very many places in the U.S. that are not within range of some 2 meter net. What's more, are the daily High Frequency (HF) Nets that reliably connect people that are within 1000 miles of each other-requiring nothing more than a radio. These (2 meter & HF) nets seem to make people a part of large families every day.

  • Curious how this would work in the event of an EMP. Would your equipment still work?

  • @civsheepdog - I will address this in a future video.

  • Most people wont get a "Ham" license, but I guess they can get receivers such as "shortwave", "longwave", "AM". Those with receivers will be valuable as information relay in a "shtf" situation. Probably "AM" radio stations will go down then, so maby "Ham" operators can broadcast to the population some news over "AM" radio that most people have, or should have by now. Other good ones are CB and FRS radios also, since no phone service available then.

  • Nice, This I will share with my 7th grade students. I can incorporate it into Hurricane preparedness which is apart of the NYS intermediate Science Curriculum

  • Nice CERT! We have CERT here as well but It is currently well under the radar on Long Island and NYC. We have a regional team of maybe 50 people. Guess because there are so many first responders and they have handled everything so far people have no need for CERT

If I were to get into ham radio what would be a good first set up?

Do you have a solar charger like a Brunton if the power goes out for your radio?

  • @ihikearoundcom - I am working on an intro series to HAM radio, as well as, emergency go-bags and portable / emergency power.

  • fun Doc! Did not know such a thing as CERT even existed. Thx

  • pretty cool

  • Hi Doc, Can you recommend a good starter radio and online merchant? I have looked around and the information on this stuff is confusing, I have decided to purchase a radio and go from there.

  • Great vid! Can you give a quick vid on "How To" get started in ham radio?

  • nice video...i am a CERT member it is an awesome group to be in.

  • Look forward to learning more about HAM.

  • Our CERT team has become the biggest laughing joke in my state - over 600 'registered members' yet we can't even get .5% (yes POINT 5%) of them to show up to the yearly mandatory training/refresher..yet they waste time and resources on utterly useless things. They refuse to do actual community events and get run roughshod by the Red Cross. Glad your CERT team works in your area.

  • cool mus stash.

  • i dont understand the 2meter and all those word when people talk about this subject

  • Do you have a video on the equipment you have there? I though HAM radios were big bulky pieces of equipment. That is cool. I guess you also have a video on how to get started?

  • Boy o boy you are one valuable asset to both this community and to your home community. I love these vids. I am hoping to get started in HAM the first of next year. Have a great day and be safe Doc. 73's

  • My HAM Classes start next Monday! YAYYY!

    Thanks for being an inspiration!

  • @rooftopeagle Go for it rooftopeagle. There are a great bunch of people in Ham radio.

  • @SgtBooker44 Looking forward to it! Thanks for the nice comment!

  • OK, sorry but, this is way off topic. I just realized that you are on top of some world class ski areas! Please tell me that you and your family take advantage of this; there are no winter activities where I live. :|

  • Really love this idea of CERT and Civilian sheepdog concept (I dunno if they can be put together but the idea is great.)

  • Hi David

  • i am a cert and teen cert instructor, but there are no cert teams close lol

  • Doc, great video! Do you have any problems with your transmissions bleeding over into sattelite orair transmissions like radio, TV?

PS... Love the flip commercial idea!

    Regards

  • Thanks for more radio info

Oh man.. it was SOOO worth watching this one through to the end.. I hope you do a vid on that camera set up, it really produces a great video. I am very interested in any feedback on those articulated tripods (sorry to go off topic)

  • @GearBuyersGuide That was a "Gorillapod" and there are many types now. You can get the specs on the photography ones at ThinkGeek . Com under "electronics/cameras-photography".

  • Hi Doc!

I just started CERT training (Novi, MI) last week and I'm really excited. And I'm also slowly getting into HAM, although, to be honest, it's a little bit over my head. Haha. I just wanted to let you know that I REALLY like your channel. And you've really motivated me to follow my interests.

Thanks Doc. Best wishes to you and yours.

  • very cool doc great video thanks

  • Awesome, dude! Thanks so much for promoting CERT! Everyone should be one, seriously. I did my CERT training several months ago, and I'm still putting finishing touches on my responder kit. I plan to do a video promoting the program and going through my kit once it's all complete.

  • @TheLateBoyScout

    Looking forward to that !

  • Not much for the radio, but I'm glad to see CERT being represented. I took the CERT class for my county and it was well worth my time. I gained valuable information and knowledge that I will carry with my for a long time. I feel better prepared to handle a disaster because of it.

    Thanks for the video USNERDOC!

I should note that the class is not just for the young. People of all ages will benefit from the information given.

  • very cool, I will have to look into this. Thanks, I didnt know they had something like this. I noticed there wasnt a team in deschutes county.

  • it's comforting to know this type of thing even exists. I've got family up in your area.

  • @USNERDOC David, great video, I put this vid in both my CERT & Radio, Amateur play lists on my channel. I also sent the link to a county asst. EM for CERT planning.

  • @hooya1111 - COOL!
