  • the most humble jiu jitsu guy ever.. Marcelo the best pound for pound..

  • That is class. A great match between two greats.

  • see, even great bjj professionals turn their damn backs and get choked the hell out.

  • one of the best marcelo garcia matches i've seen, not just because of his grappling skills, but also how humble he is towards his opponents

  • @SJVAChannel

I agree but you for got about robson moura

  • I can't wait to be that good.

  • @aldmills As good as Marcelo Garcia? More power to ya friend, but that is level few will ever approach. Best of luck.

  • Roger,,marcelo,jacare,xande, maia grappling gods...

  • Love Xandes sportsmanship. Marcelo is the GOD, but Xande is right up there to.

  • @iggs67 I think Roger Gracie, Jacare Souza and Fernando Terere would strongly disagree with that, just a thought.

  • @kanguesso Not sure what you are referring to. Xande's sportmanship? Or the fact that Marcelo lost to these guys. Even so, only Roger Gracie accomplished more than him in BJJ. I mean more titles.

  • @iggs67 I am referring to the statement you made about Marcelo being "The GOD". So i said that the people like Roger, Terere and Jacare who submitted and beat Marcelo on more than one occasion would disagree with you about Marcelo being "GOD", his BJJ accomplishments not withstanding of course. That's what i meant.

  • @kanguesso I agree. My statement based on the fact that Marcelo was normally the smaller guy, which used his brain and superior technique to beat the opponents. Terere is probably equal to Marcelo, but has big advantage in size(not weight), speed, strength, just naturally way more physically gifted. I watched two fights with Marcelo and, although he lost, Terere was just sitting there, preventing Marcelo's sweeps from the guard. Marcelo BJJ based on brains, Terere - physics. Just my opinion.

  • @iggs67 I agree with some points you made and disagree with some? I agree that Marcelo is a smart BJJ practitioner but to say that because Terere happens to be more physically gifted, exp; Athleticism, speed, power and strength does not at all mean the guy is not just as smart a BJJ practitioner as Garcia. BJJ at that level is more of a chess game than it is physical. You can be the most physically gifted guy in the world, if you don't have the brains to play this chess game, you won't win much.

  • @kanguesso great points...however in this match garcia benefits from the other guy's mistake. there are time when a guy isn't going to give up a lot and well do you just lay there or force this guy's hand?

so then the issue is...is forcing a player to move NOT pure bjj...is which i think is the problem with this art any others. this whole elitism, if you're not learning from a certain family then it aint shit. which is why royce getting choked by Wallid was such a big deal.

  • @kanguesso 2cont. at any rate a known bjj practitioner says this, "But I think that you can only rely on technique alone when you are facing guys who don’t know any jiu-jitsu. When you are going against other guys who are versed in jiu-jitsu, obviously strength and conditioning are going to play an important part".

so to a degree having some 'mustard' helps...doesn't help when you're giving your back to the other guy though.

  • @kanguesso 3cont. question is...when you're facing a more technically skilled player just what attribute do you use to move the fight in your direction. a match is not exactly like chess, in chess every player is forced to move forward (well, several pieces)...however, if a technically sound player just lays there waiting for you to work yourself into a mistake when do you assert yourself. whether that be passing guard faster than he can respond or constantly moving and attacking him

  • another RNC victim

  • joao assis > roger :)

  • Two legends... but marcelo is so dynamic, explosive (on top of his super technic).

  • i personally thinks that Marcelo Garcia is a "God" of no gi submission grappling, he got a lot up on his sleeves and he's more than happy to show you how top be very technical in no gi match

  • thats true jiu jitsu warrior spirit shown much respect for marcelo and xande!!!

  • Holy shit that is so damn epic.

  • I think even Xande was shocked at how strong Marcelo was in that match.

  • E Davi pegou Golias....

  • someone told roger gracie that "marcelo garcia was sent by the gods of jiu jitsu to show everyone how to grapple" roger gracie says ''funny i dont remember sending him" ;] looool dats my own little joke but i would LOVE to see marcelo vs roger in a no-gi jiu jitsu match

  • Wow

  • @nighthawke2 the amount of respect and humbleness shown here from both parties shows that very well.

  • Marcello is a grappling alien. In all the best ways. Osss.

  • "Se você é a grande árvore, eu sou o pequeno machado afiado que irá te cortar".

  • great sportmanship

  • David Vs Goliath

  • Ribeiro didn't lose, he mounted Marcelo fucking Garcia! That's a win for him, mounting Marcelo Garcia is like getting the mount against God. Actually, it is getting the mount against God!

  • @grizzzler lol he did so lose :P

  • omg, the smaller, weaker guy just outplayed the bigger, stronger guy... so amazing!

  • no one before Marcelo and no one after

  • so patient and relaxed, only expending energy when needed.

  • I don't understand why Xande is reaching for the Marcelo's hooks after he's been turned onto Marcelo's choking hand (right) side. Interesting that Pablo Pablovitch (sp?) just layed in Marcelo's side control to avoid Marcelo's back take.

  • thanks for not adding your own soundtrack

  • @mndeg Too bad because Trance by 009 Sound System or that requiem for a dream music goes so well with that video...

  • Marcelo is the opposite of the grappling greasing thats going on, because wants he touches you he sticks. He aint going nowhere.

  • im quite new to bjj, what move is he doing at 1 16 where he sweeps him almost

  • @anderson12ization

looks like a variation on the x-guard takedown sweep

  • marcelo's my hero

  • wow marcelo's back control is crazy

  • greaaateeeeee

  • Crazy.Just amazing.Both guy's r technically r brilliant and the little guy take's him out.Ive seen this match a 1,000 times and it still blow's my mind.The"size doesn't matter"thing has been dead 4 a long time now.It isn't the 90's,yet the guy is such a freak..Fantastic.Just incredible.Love this guy.

  • proud for this brazilians.

  • great sportmanship !

  • freakin xande...so much class. respect.

cheers to both of these champs.

  • Ribeiro is Diego Sanchez's BJJ coach? Right?

  • @justfine77777 his older brother..saulo is sanchez's coach

  • @sharanyo thats right. Saulo is bad ass....

  • i could swear that i hear saulo giving some advice in the background

  • This was an excellent display of skill by both competitors. I tell you one thing man, I love how the top level guys usually show real good respect and sportsmanship towards each other.

  • @ 5.23 was the best part of the whole video, who cares who tap who out.

  • i might be wrong, but i think this was the match that made xande retire from competition

  • @rissx He just competed in the 2010 Worlds. He's still competing.

  • damm this was a really good match....i would want to see him go against his bro saulo that'll be badass

  • humilde pra caralho !!!! esse é dos meus !!!

    marcelinho rulles !!!!!!!

    Ossss

  • AMAZING! I mean seriously.... reversing the mount of the bjj champion 2 weight classes higher! That is sick stuff, Garcia is god of bjj.

  • He's such a small guy too. amazing athlete.

  • that was an intense match

  • why are u dumbass hillbilies talking about brock lesnar????? fuk off and go watch his gay ass video of him lying ontop of people like a homo hahahahaha

  • @Babs0117 No he gets on TOP of his wife, he OBLITERATES opponents :D

    watch again :D

  • the only guy he was even close to "obliterating" was frank mir in their second match, he couldnt even finish heath hearing, and caught randy who was 60 pounds lighter.

  • @Orsen14 someone needs glasses :)

  • @Orsen14 Heath herring still hasn't fought since that fight because of the damage that was one to him physically and mentally, broken eye socket, thats pretty bad, heath's chin did himself more damage than good. You have to give lesnar props he is a extremely gifted athlete.

  • AMAZING! Love these guys! No boring stuff anywhere!

    BTW,

    @Favaz

Brock got taken down by Randy...

  • Brock dominated the wrestling in that fight, he is a much better wrestler, plus he has an advantage in the size and speed as well as training freestyle rather than greco.

  • Marcelo the great!!

  • Enormous technique!

  • XANDE tried a weak "running man" and marcelo took his back.

  • very weak to say the least.

  • that was sickkk.

  • JAJAJA?

  • Xande isn't as good no-gi then he is gi. With a gi on there aren't many that can compete with him, hes beaten Roger the last 3 times they've faced off now. As for Marcelo, probably one of the greatest grapplers to ever live so it's not a bad thing to get tapped by him.

  • xande is just as good at no gi. he was champ in his weight...... last adcc 09.

  • Marcelo is amazing. I'm so lucky to be training under one of his purple belts

  • wouldn't happen to be Leo would it?

  • Rene

  • team alliance baby

  • master garcia is the man. I just met him at the grapplers quest tournament in coral springs and he is the most down to earth person. it was an honor and a pleasure to meet and shake the hand of the man himself.

  • I was there, you sure he was there?

  • Marcelo Garcia is my favorite grappler because of his pure greatness on the matt, I love Roger Gracie because he is so calm & is so great at the basics. It is easy to love both of them because they are the best but they are my favorite.

  • wat belt is garcia

  • Garcia is one of the greates BJJ champions of all time. Defenitely a black belt!

  • i think he meant what degree. maybe? hopefully?

  • black

  • who's the band at the end??whats thier name?

  • From First to Last

  • werent these guys on the cover gracie mag

  • giving your back to marcelo garcia=epic fail.

  • On another level!!!!!!!!or even planet, bravo this was awesome

  • marcia is a monster indeed

  • is this a open class match

  • marcia is a moster on jiu-jtsu

  • In conclusion, to be a good fighter, you have to know it all.

  • generally yes, but just ask demian maia. all wins by sub in a ufc division where everyone KNOWS hes going to take them down, yet he still does so and submits them. jacare, andre galvao, and roger all up good mma fighters in the early stages of their careers. with limited stand

  • i doesnt matter if tyson or ali says this wont work against boxers. You cannot compare a competition with another. In competitions they are rules? I mean, tyson would bite off the ear of anyone who tried to grapple him oh wait...tyson did bit off someone's ear in a boxing match....

  • lol the crowd loves marcelo

  • as a small jiu jitsu practioner myself i love to see garcia go against all body types

  • nice mount escape

  • MC HAMMER'S 2 LEGIT 2 QUIT!!!

  • SICK

  • i dont know karate ,i dont know cccrazy ,but i know gracie

  • and then you would wake up from the choke he had you in

  • Lol try that against a black belt in bjj

  • Yeah a Bjj Black Belt would own those guys...WTF lmao

  • aha, that is like watching tyson or ali in his prime and saying "their style wouldn't work against a boxer"

  • Wait? Jiu jitsu wouldn't work against a boxer? That makes absolutely no sense. As a fighter in training and an ex boxer who has trained boxing since a kid I can assure you that jiu jitsu it probably the most effective way to neutralize a boxer. Usually pro's have amazing take downs (Catch wrestlers have the best) but non the less a boxer with no ground skills is like a fish out of water in a fight against a trained grappling practitioner

  • bro, u got me the wrong way. i was commenting that dumb comment, that garcia's style wouldn't work against a bjj black belt... saying this, is like watching tyson or ali in his prime and saying "their punching style wouldn't work against a boxer".

oh, and since we are talking about takedowns, just take a look at world class wrestlers like iordanov of bulgaria or saitiev of russia or world class judokas and forget anything else

  • ohhh ok my bad, yea jiu jitsu is awesome. I'm a firm believer though to be a great fighter you have to know it all, even if you're just a stand up fighter.

  • that is true, as a complete fighter one has to know haow to punch, kick, throw and fight on the ground.

  • Don't forget weapons. Stick, knife, and gun at least.

  • Comment removed

  • unless you are absolutely sick at bjj. example is demian maia. he is undefeated in the ufc, and has submitted all opponents using textbook bjj techniques, even though everyone knows he is going to take them down...de-evolution of mma

  • agree but a jiujitsu practitoner is very bad on their stand up.. so good luck trying to get close enough to take him down.

  • That's not true at all, thiago alves was a jiu jitsu guy and he's won almost all his fights by knockout and is getting a title shot :)

  • no no.. thiago alves started in muaythai and then did jiujitsu. ruilly.

  • actually he is getting a shitle tot. hes very excited about it.

  • You mean a shitle-tot :P

  • BJ Penn = bjj guy.

He's knocked out a LOT of fighters.

  • Nate Marquardt-elite grappler with good striking, anderson silva a noguiera black belt with amazing stand up, Gsp a black belt good striking, Brandon vera brown belt with awesome striking, Diaz brothers, Genki Sudo, Kenny Florian...uneducated stereotype bro.

  • nogifunk, don't forget sexyama...

  • Yoshihiro ftw! and Dean Thomas, Fedor, Lyoto Machida...point proven.

  • well, freakin gsp has the best wrestling in mma, and wasnt known for being an amazing wrestler.

  • ? And...?

  • and?

  • Just wondering why you would bring up gsp's wrestling completely out of context it all..lol..

  • he hasn't got the best wrestling in mma.

  • well if he doesnt have the best wrestling in mma, hes gotta atlest if there was a top 10 for people that have amazing wrestling, he would be in the top 5,

  • Seriously... Its all because rogan said it so all the nuthuggers are all over it...

  • @daz45 gsp does have thes wrestling for mma....name someone who has better wrestling and plz dont name brock lesnar

  • @jchavista89

why not brock lesner because he's big? he's a ncaa champ and has a great double leg also dan henderson made the us greco roman team and has shown he can take anyone down in 185 and 205 dont get me wrong gsp is a dog but i think dan henderson p4p in mma has the best wrestling and another i'll give you is jon jones greco roman national champ and what he did to hammil and bonner was awesom (although i think bonner sucks)

  • you obviously know nothing about the man

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You won the price 'DUMBEST POST' for this video. Try again in my other videos, you might win again and get famous in the BJJ community and maybe one day you will meet a fresh blue belt that will give you the opportunity to choke him out as you say here. GOOD LUCK!

  • You could expect a permenant, crippling arm injury, then.

  • Haha. of course you would and youd end up with broken limbs in seconds.

  • wow instead of trying to get back to guard or half guard xande tries to get to all fours against MARCELO GARCIA the master of taking peoples backs. as soon as xande went to all fours it was over.

  • yeah i was very surprised as well xande seems so passive in this fight to me, what he did at 3:18 and later was big mistake against marcelo well even the best ones have their moments

  • 2:18 stand on the bicep

    fuckin' ninja

  • Xande Ribeiro and Marcelo Garcia... what an amazing fight.

  • cool match

  • I love the respect these two have for their opponent and themselves. Hand shake and a hug after they're done. No limb breaking, no hitting the mat. Real gentlemen in a place where kids think BJJ or MMA is all about murder.

  • Great point. How is that UFC and other MMA venues have become such a celebration of violence and piss poor attitudes? Here is some advice to the general public, you don't have to be a social reject to practice BJJ or Muay Thai!! You don't need multi-colored hair and nails and drink like a damn stumble bum. It's becoming harder and harder to sit through those shows.

  • I seriously could not agree with you more. I hate the multi-colored, all body tattoo thing. It looks very childish.

  • i have just started competing, and i have a lot of tattoos which im not ashamed of, but i wear underarmour to cover them.i try not to let people see them for the most part.i guess what im sayin is it's not the tattoos that determine their attitude.

  • i still think mma is kind of cool especially in japan where the attitudes toward the sport is a bit different.

  • MMA fighters tend to actually show pretty good sportsmanship, especially after the fights.

  • that was one of the greatest guard passes ive ever seen

  • Marcelo and Xande you guys are animals! That was some sick grappling skills. World class, I mean freaking WOW!

  • that was a freaking chess match

  • this was some beautiful jiujitsu.

  • Man guys, this is what makes jiu-jitsu so great. No matter how good you are, you're guaranteed to get tooled on the mat sometime. But, you just get back up, give your opponent props, then move on to compete another day with another outcome.

  • its definately the mutual respect that makes it so great. It is very competitive however after the match the winner and the loser always congratulate each other.

  • Oh.. my god.. I did not understand how technical this was until JUST now.. I had to watch this 10 times.

  • Once you are in a rear naked choke, you my friend, are fucked.

  • Nonsense. There are plenty of defenses to a rear naked choke. It's just a matter of knowing them, and being able to pull them off under pressure. No technique is undefendable.

Very technical match though. Good vid.

  • Aff... satiro91, vai plantar fumaça. O Xande parece q tinha deixado seu espírito de luta ir embora antes. Se mostrasse sua raça tradicional, teria complicado ainda mais.

  • Yo estoy de acuerdo contigo!!

  • yeah, purefighter! In my opinion, Xande is the best fighter and best "heart" of the Jiu-Jitsu. He have "guts", man. Roger is the most technican, skill fighter. Sorry my poor english! :)

  • Your english= muito bem!! hahaha...y acerca de Xande, estoy de acuerdo contigo!!

  • I don't think being bigger would necessarily make him better. The bigger you get, the more your style has to change to reflect that. You can't use you opponents body to position yourself as easily. You have to rely on your strength and size to control and limit them, rather than use their size to mobilize yourself. I'm sure he'd be great if he were bigger, but he'd definitely have to adapt.

  • marcelo is the most techinical and best of all time at grappling

he is the GOD OF GRAPPLING

other grapplers are sooooooo fucking lucky he aint bigger or else hed kick anyones ass

  • Robert Drysdale is good but on that day, he got lucky! Marcelo would mould him the next time he meets.

  • Wow, it s look like a different skill level between Marcelo and Xande, Marcelo totally dominating Xande.

  • whats the point of this match? I'm not talking shit im wondering.. is it like wrestling or what?

  • grappling/wrestling, u can win by points or submission (in this case the fight finished due to a rear naked choke)

  • anybody else feel that it looks as though xande isnt giving 100%? he just looks sorta slow and passive on a lot of marcelo's techniques.

I noticed the same thing with cacareco in adcc 2007 when he fought Marcelo. it barely looked like he was trying to defend anything let alone mount an offense.

  • Yeah,I am a huge fan of both, but Xande look like he had his mind somewhere else...Anyway he got 2 gold medals in the 2008 mundial!!

  • real nice escape at 1:14

  • o governo lula recentemente rompeu com as farc por discordar de seus atos de sequestro, agora o foro de são paulo sempre existiu sim, é lógico, e que bom por isso, ele só não fala que a elite corrupta depenou o brasil por anos há fio

  • High class techinique by Marcelo, look the way he handle the heel hook, he take care of it by technique.

  • Marcelo is great for grappling for it shows skill with smaller man..not sterioded freaks that bully people..this is what jujutsu was intended for.
