  • Ben Folds is a piano genius! This song is beautiful!

  • just perfect for our wedding vows song. love it!

  • our string quartet can play this at weddings! google musical functions if you are getting married in sydney

  • Omgomg

  • Omg

  • This was our wedding song <3

  • It was our wedding song too!

  • BF is awesome. Even if he does vaguely resemble a turtle.

  • My husband sang this and played the piano part at our wedding instead of doing a unity candle. It meant so much more to us. If you are a musical couple I highly recommend doing a song together to represent your unity.

  • i love this song and my step dad and my mom are going to dance to this song when they get married

  • @deadlytoque: It was perfect - I had originally just planned to use a piano instrumental of Edith Piaf's "Hymne a l'Amour", but then 3 nights before the wedding, I was up late futzing around on the internet and found this song, with the lyrics, and I just cried my eyes out - I immediately e-mailed my cousin the link (she was taking care of the processional music) and had her change the plan to use this song. The lyrics just suit my husband and I so perfectly. Good luck!

  • I walked down the aisle to this song at my wedding on October 1st of this year - it was just perfect!

  • @tgreta69 I'm kinda thinking it might be perfect to play for my bride-to-be, too :)

  • when i listen to this song, i hear angels. and a future i wish to have.

  • he's sooooooo hottttttt.

  • this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Someone so very close to my heart would always p[lay this around me. i love him dearly and this song just makes me think of him.

  • learningthis onmypiano!!

    totally love this song

    its awesome!

  • there is no way for me to listen to this song without getting choked up.

  • I am an accomplished musician, if I dare say so myself. And I absolutely love this song. My taste in music has matured to the level where I understand that there is beauty in simplicity. Some other musicians would do well to understand this as well. Though I believe Ben Folds could have done a little more with dynamic expression, I consider this one of my favorite songs. Sometimes it's not always the way it's performed, but how it was intended that makes a good piece great.

  • @Symphoniconductor good comment, I think you're right - I find this piece unique, in that the sentiment behind it seems to be built into the fabric of the song - the chord sequences, the lyrics - I think it would survive even the crudest interpretation and still get its message across and that to me is a good song.

  • Improvised or not, six chords or a thousand chords, it doesn't matter. What matters with this type of music is the over all meaning of the song and how the melody, harmony, and lyrics were formed to work together and bring the audience to a different place. Not how fast you can learn it, or how easy it is. Time to show a little maturity and respect.

  • its not what you play. its how you play it. if even one tear is in somones eye then you have played with meaning. you are alive. your music is beautiful

  • wow. i got the intro done in 5 minutes.

  • whoa, he got way better between 2006 and 2007! He sounds way less shaky or nervous of something. Happy song x^)

  • This really isnt one of his challenging ones that much, it just moves up and down the keyboard, the ones I have trouble with are, like, Landed, its not as easy as he makes it seem, the beat of the different hands through me off XD

  • I'm really not trying to seem like I'm great, but all of this song is improvised around 5 or 6 basic chords. If you understand the style that he was going for it would be extremely easy to get something like what he did.

  • well its true, and that is the way that most pop songs are, just a couple chords broken down and repeated over and over.

  • You are correct. And who's to say that's a bad thing? Elton John improvises...he never plays a song the same way twice.

  • this song actually pwns new school rap anyday

  • @stephenharperbest2 how does that even make sense. when was this song competing with "new school rap?"

  • delicioso

  • Even if this piano piece is fairly simple, that should point to the genius of Ben Folds in inventing such a simple, moving song. Because this is genius.

As for the chatting, there's assholes all over the country. Sorry you're so simple-minded that you have to stereotype like that. "Jerk."

  • predominately, yes, it is an American thing.

I went to see BF in Berlin last week. In the end I had to tell the two fucking loud Americans standing infront of me to SHUT UP. Pay 30 euros for a ticket and then chat through a gig, looking more at your mobile phones than the stage.

  • Its the ubiquitous presence of American jerks who HAVE TO shout "Whooo!" at the beginning of EVERY song, that gets under my skin. It roughly translates as "Oh I know this song, look how cool I am everybody".

  • so that's purely an American thing?...if it is please know that not all Americans are like that and some like me agree with your viewpoint. And last time I checked Ben Folds was American...please keep your insults less broad in scope and stereotypical in intention.

  • Lol that's true, every concert I have ever attended had Americans in the audience. They also screamed at the start of very song.

Note: I was also screaming at the start of the songs.

  • you are awesome. =]

  • Thanks, you're cool as well. Next Ben Folds Concert want to Yell "Whooo!" together?

  • hahaha yes! Well annoy those Englishmen ;]

  • Hahahah. I love how Americans are the only ones who do this. I mean, of course they are. I bet if I looked up a gig somewhere in England, everyone would be stone silent. It is not "predominately" an American thing; EVERYONE does it.

  • ryko26, you are an idiot.

  • Well at least Americans don't go up to Asian people on the street and make slanty eyes or speak fake Asian.

Yep, this happened in a European country. There are ignorant fucks everywhere, so be careful with your judgments.

Also, what's wrong with being excited about a song? I agree, it's obnoxious to talk through a concert but I think artists enjoy it when people know their songs.

  • You all do know that justgoingdownx is being sarcastic here, don't you? There are 3 "poor comment" things on this and a ton of "good comment" things on all the rest that talk about stereotyping being a bad thing.

  • every thing is good his voice sucks because of the recording thats all

  • Someone's jealous...

    listen to his music, Haha.

  • he wrote the freaking song dude.

try and play this song on piano, then go try and write something like it.

sure, hes got some pitch trouble, but this is art. this man is a genious.

  • oh my heck.

this piano, is NOT easy. composing would be an even harder task.

  • he's just a lazy singer. but i still love him anyway

  • The piano part is actually quite easy.

  • Gah, im having the hardest time with it

  • It's easy once you get the feel of it. I mean the notes are pretty simple. It's just the rhythm and feel of it.

  • its easy if your good. I spent a couple hours and only got like 15 measures in.

  • heck I've spent a couple weeks and only have about the intro down well

  • You must be L337 at piano to say it's easy, haha.

  • well personnaly i'm not a pianist but this is one of the 3 songs I jnow. it's not that complicated.

once this is said, i have to say that this song is absolutely beautiful, siple is sometimes the best.

  • What's L337?

  • @skate887 7(-)3 name of a computer language (from urb4n|)1(710n4r`/)

  • well he has talent he just sounds weird in this recording

  • You gotta see him in concert to appreciate.. awesome show.. totally outshined the late tori amos... now that she's totally digitally done.... she's no fun.. if he hadn't opened i'd of felt i wasted my 40 bucks.

  • lol my brother said the same thing about that tour.

  • very good job singing! and also nice orchestra usage!

  • this is a wonderful song. my husband (whom is a wonderful singer/pianist) suprised me and played this for me at our wedding!

  • How many people do live performances still?
