The Koran got luck on a few pieces of information but it's also very barbaric.  MohomMAD had some other person write it since mohamMAD was too illiterate and couldn't write. It is illogical scientifically to think mohamMAD wrote off on a horse into heaven. It is illogical to think martyrs are in heaven and also get 72 wives.

I was at a school awards ceremony(for my mathematical brilliance), and we still had prayer. One of the teachers actually opened with a prayer to the Christian god. I knew for a fact there were Jews and Muslims in attendance, as well as atheist(s) as myself. In some places there is still organized prayer.

A school event? May I ask what school district? It happened here in Round Rock, Texas but a slightly different thing. The Superintendent allowed students to include a prayer in the ceremony. He refused to back it out and stated the lawyers said it was ok. I called him and explained to him the error.

I think its pathetic that in the US people say 'happy holidays' to avoid offence, if I get a 'merry xmas' im not fussed, if somebody said 'happy Eid' im not fussed, in fact its more honest that the PC 'happy holidays' ive even heard 'Happy winter' BLOCH (i like winter anyway!) its that supposed separation of church/state that drives religion in the US.

I would agree, it doesn't matter what you wish someone during a holiday especially since Christmas was a pagan holiday adopted by various religions very much like the idea of the messiah.

I think the problem is that non religious folk feel threatened when they observe certain radical christian groups in the united states.

i still 'do' christmas but only in the same way as millions do likewise, its nothing more than a way to lighten the winter with family with the nostalgia of a gift laden childhood, for me the religious meaning is absolute zero.

Same here.  My entire family observes it so I see no need to argue. However, when someone says Jesus is the reason I politely go into how Sol Invictus was celebrated and how xianity plagurized that holiday.

I spent last christmas in Japan, and that's definitely the way to go. Everybody celebrates christmas, and nobody is christian. You hang out with your friends, and then spend the day with people you care about.

Good point about prayer in school. Also remember that when one room school houses included prayer, those were not public schools. They were built with private funds by the community.

I just watched the CNN round table, and then your response. I'm a Christian (born and raised in Georgia) and I understand and respect everything that you are saying. And even though I believe in God, I do agree with the money ordeal as well as the, "One nation under God" ordeal.

Public education is also based on PUBLIC knowledge which faith is most certainly not. Faith is a decidedly private belief which is not justified.
