Though I´m more of a WWII warbirds lover, I must say that there are a few jets that are really stunning, rocking and astonishing, and naturally the F-22 is one of them, regardless the political problems that it had to face. Besides, the overall design of the Raptor (or at least some of its features) seems to have been such a success that it was apparently taken as base by the designers of the F-35 and the J-20, if I´m not wrong...
Unfortunately only the US has them. Apparently it is so advanced that the government didn't wan't any other country to have the technology. Unfortunately, that was also its downfall. No other country to share the burden of the high price tag.
my favorite bird that I like to see fly is a barn swallow and that is what the F-22 can fly like. I just had the pleasure of watching them a few minutes ago. I really hope I get to see the F-22 air show live.

I like F-22 Raptor... it's fast and maneuverable than other jets...
but not much payload... not like F-35 Lightning II. F-35 has greater payload than F-22, but it is slower than F-22. F-22 has a maximum speed mach 2.25 and cruising speed at mach 1.82, F-35 had a maximum speed of mach 1.62...
there's another stealth- air superiority fighter, the sukhoi PAK FA or T-50, a Russian jet... but one thing I concern is they look like the same..
How do you measure payload? The F-22 has a total payload capacity of about 4,000 lb. MORE than the F-35(A).
As far as internal AtA loadouts go, the F-35 can only carry (at the moment) 4 AMRAAM's, whereas the F-22 carries 6 AMRAAM's + 2 AIM-9's internally.
The only advantage the F-35 has in terms of internal loadouts is the fact that it can carry 2x 2,000 lb. JDAM's while the F-22 can only carry the 1,000 pounders (INTERNALLY).

I think what Ppl really need is to do combat simulation f-22 v cy-37 or F-22 vs Mig-35 ...u basically loose when u allow enough time for other pilot to lock on and press the button...it's just would be nice to see whod won =)

i would place it in the top 5 for technology, which has nothing to do with being the best, there are just too many variants to that claim - best for what? If i was looking at updating fighters, i doubt this bird would be on the shopping list, too expensive with other fighters being able to fulfill the same role for considerable less money
This plane is great for Demo, but unlike the SU 37 it lacks range, armour and large weapon carrying ability. Stealth is no good if you can't get to the target. Besides, the SU 37 can spot these or has that slipped past everyone?
@killaoflimmus ROFL, The Su-37 (35) doesn't have a prayer. The F22 can carry external fuel tanks and drop them when it needs to be more stealthy. And NO, the Su-35 cannot detect the F22 until it too late.
You should read the latest MMRCA report where it shows how shitty even Russia's Mig 35 compares to the other aircraft in the competition. Russia has a long way to go before it gets anywhere near what the US is already fielding in service today,

When it started that slow vertical loop, I almost thought it was trying to match the su-35 with a double backflip... until it nosed down instead
it's pretty nimble but it can't beat 3d thrust vectoring. Add the expense and its few numbers, and it's a boom and zoom, offensive plane. This stuff is just a sideshow, it'll never do it in combat

slow manuevering that become much faster with canards, especially if taken together with Thrust vector when you drive the plane fast as should be with a fighter. So your aerodynamics isnt especially good but stupid americans can think so. This technology is just crazy. that pilots not even pushing it, all those maneuvers are routine. He could literally be almost floating there in a tight turn and if he really punched it he could break the sound barrier in a second or two. Listen to the jet, it's not even cranking many RPM's. He has a LOT more power on tap, more then the human body can handle. I don't care for war but this technology is amazing...
sorry guys the f22 is a nice looking machine but the specs dont compare to the t50 at 2/3 the cost as for manouverabilty the states are just now matching the ability of the sukio acrobatic abilities in the air

@OlderG0ds the F-35 is way faster, more payload, an innovative and badass HUD integrated into a halo spartan looking helmet, and has stealth, however it has been delayed for so damn long due to budget cuts and final tuning. When the battle tested AV8B is doing sorties in Libya right now.

Its real-life (i.e. COMBAT-LOADED), INTERNAL-FUEL-ONLY combat radius is 410nm, and that includes 100nm of Mach 1.6 cruise and ~20 minutes of on-site combat. Those stats stack up extremely well with any other "big" fighter out there, and is certainly better than the Tiffy.

@em745aa you are correct. I had faulty info. While I am and always have been a huge fan of the raptor, the price is still absurd. Its a good thing its so good, but for the price its at I can see how it can be considered a major draw back. Still, it is the highest performing fighter in the world.

The facts: F-22 has the most advanced engines of any fighter aircraft, extreme maneuverability, the most powerful and advanced AESA radar, integrated avionics/sensor fusion, the most advanced air-air weapons. She can supercruise at 60,000 feet, virtually undetected, at Mach 1.8. No rival approaches these capabilities.

@em745aa without external ordnance, but in the EF there's not much difference with or without external ordnance 'cos the shape of wings are design to hide in front and lateral view as much as possible the externals weapons, i think is better if u read and search on the web the page where is possible to read that during a simulation two raf Typhoon haved lock two F22 in BVR, 70 miles far... poor F22 it seem not much stealthy anyway.

Cy-37 beat 3 of them,multilock-on and goodbye boys and in gun range f-22 just dont stand any chance too.Mig 35 even is good enought ( which is a bit worse than Cy-37) to combat F's. I think what Ppl really need is to do combat simulation f-22 v cy-37 or F-22 vs Mig-35 ...u basically loose when u allow enough time for other pilot to lock on and press the button...it's just would be nice to see whod won =)

i would place it in the top 5 for technology, which has nothing to do with being the best, there are just too many variants to that claim - best for what? If i was looking at updating fighters, i doubt this bird would be on the shopping list, too expensive with other fighters being able to fulfill the same role for considerable less money

This plane is great for Demo, but unlike the SU 37 it lacks range, armour and large weapon carrying ability. Stealth is no good if you can't get to the target. Besides, the SU 37 can spot these or has that slipped past everyone?

@killaoflimmus ROFL, The Su-37 (35) doesn't have a prayer. The F22 can carry external fuel tanks and drop them when it needs to be more stealthy. And NO, the Su-35 cannot detect the F22 until it too late.
You should read the latest MMRCA report where it shows how shitty even Russia's Mig 35 compares to the other aircraft in the competition. Russia has a long way to go before it gets anywhere near what the US is already fielding in service today,

When it started that slow vertical loop, I almost thought it was trying to match the su-35 with a double backflip... until it nosed down instead
it's pretty nimble but it can't beat 3d thrust vectoring. Add the expense and its few numbers, and it's a boom and zoom, offensive plane. This stuff is just a sideshow, it'll never do it in combat

slow manuevering that become much faster with canards, especially if taken together with Thrust vector when you drive the plane fast as should be with a fighter. So your aerodynamics isnt especially good but stupid americans can think so. The only perhaps working feature of this plane is stealth, but what ive heard of todays radar and optic systems is to good. also the electronics is good as the robots. but for the money it sucks.

This technology is just crazy. that pilots not even pushing it, all those maneuvers are routine. He could literally be almost floating there in a tight turn and if he really punched it he could break the sound barrier in a second or two. Listen to the jet, it's not even cranking many RPM's. He has a LOT more power on tap, more then the human body can handle. I don't care for war but this technology is amazing...

I mean, the harrier is slower then most yet but thanks to it ability to pretty much stop instantly it can outmanouver faster planes. Either way its silly to dicuss which is "best"

@jamesthereaper7 it a great machine...but it not the best..Euro Fighter typhon can engage targets at supersonic speeds...F22 even if it a modern aircraft still have to go subsonic than he engage targets
EF typhon can do dogfight at supersonic...this F22 cant.
however it a fantastic machine one of the top in the world ;)

@OlderG0ds the F-35 is way faster, more payload, an innovative and badass HUD integrated into a halo spartan looking helmet, and has stealth, however it has been delayed for so damn long due to budget cuts and final tuning. When the battle tested AV8B is doing sorties in Libya right now.

Just looking at the heated debate in the comments, the F-22 is the most outstanding fighter in the world. but it has its short comings. 1) Relatively short range. 2) Absurdly high price. 3) Not many and hard to make. Its real-life (i.e. COMBAT-LOADED), INTERNAL-FUEL-ONLY combat radius is 410nm, and that includes 100nm of Mach 1.6 cruise and ~20 minutes of on-site combat. Those stats stack up extremely well with any other "big" fighter out there, and is certainly better than the Tiffy.

Amusing, foolish people here who seem to think Typhoons or Sukhois (Russian junk) could defeat F-22. Highly unlikely. The facts: F-22 has the most advanced engines of any fighter aircraft, extreme maneuverability, the most powerful and advanced AESA radar, integrated avionics/sensor fusion, the most advanced air-air weapons. She can supercruise at 60,000 feet, virtually undetected, at Mach 1.8. No rival approaches these capabilities.
Typhoon? A good 4.5 gen fighter, but no match for F22

the UK is addicted to tradition, (Harrier, Tornado, ect.) in other words; Old Money. Developing countries are going for the cheap options; eg. Mig-29 ($29m) compared to the F-15 ($40/$50m). @donzaliko Eurofighter have an rcs of 0.5 square meters, it's not stealth as an F-22 but it's classified like a stealth fighter 'cos its rcs is less than 1 square meter, you have to study before speak.

@em745aa without external ordnance, but in the EF there's not much difference with or without external ordnance 'cos the shape of wings are design to hide in front and lateral view as much as possible the externals weapons, i think is better if u read and search on the web the page where is possible to read that during a simulation two raf Typhoon haved lock two F22 in BVR, 70 miles far... poor F22 it seem not much stealthy anyway.
