The musicianship demonstrated here leaves all other sopranos in the dust - specially the cabaletta which is nearly impossible to sing without sounding like the soprano is grasping for breath half the time. Callas phrases it exquisitely and delineates every single note. She is a musical wonder.
Of all the Verdi that she ever sang, either recorded or on stage, this aria defines more about her magical relationship to the master's music better than any other. All the qualities of romantic bel canto are displayed fully: Leonora's unrequited love, the nostalgic desire, her reveries and hopes. The technique serves the passion, so to speak.
@kgarmaker123 there is one more singer who is sublime and she is leyla gencer, full of pianissimi (even high Ds) and with a beautiful, fragile voice and excellent legato.
Great, Great, and Great!!!!!!!!!
