I work at a calling center called USA 800 out of St. Joseph, Missouri. It makes my day when people go out of their way just too try and "prank" us. I'm a 19 year old man and all too often I see the ladies in our office here get SO PISSED when people do it too them. I just talk too them and tell them too keep on trolling. I've actually gotten 2 Write-Ups for it, because we're not supposed to hangup if people call us, so what do I do, I talk on the phone with these people for almost a half hour!!!
Interesting. Yelling into a system never works and call center agents are accountable for every call every time. Normally ever call we receive is recorded. These are interesting tips but if you try to call our call center, you would be told to call the main line. cant help you from a computer on our internal phone system.

And the reason why you can't get someone on the line right away is because they want to route you to the right person within the call center...billing people can't help you with technical problems and vice versa. Doing all the things to the automated system could actually take more time anyway.
As far as getting a call-back number that gets you ahead in the queue, most call-centers are either exclusively inbound or outbound. Inbound call centers don't have a direct number to call back.

Here's a hack I found for my electric company, Pacific Gas and Electric in northern California. They have switched to voice recognition. When I had a problem with my electric meter I found out that the words "electricity meter, electricity and meter were not in its vocabulary. But, using the secret phrase, "I have a gun." or "I have hostages." always gets me through to an emergency operator within 15 seconds. Works for my health insurance company too.

Don't go through to sales lines; salespeople for call centres often work on what's known as a conversion rate, which means they get commission for how many calls they can turn into sales. If they can't sell to you, then they've lost money (i.e. their livelihood), and you might also be jeopardizing the job of someone who's already ailing in their performance, all because you were impatient.

I was disconnected from the iPhone center several times in a row. By now, the phone was in speakerphone mode and the whole household was watching. I called one more time. When the machine initiated its welcome greeting, I shouted a long, drawling "Fuck YOU!" The machine said, "I'm sorry you're so upset. Here, let me put you through to someone who can help!" I was talking with a real, live, English-as-first-language representative within 30 seconds of dialing. (Dialing? Do we still dial??)

Wow this makes me feel sorry for all you UK people. Here in the states it is always a free call...it is so lame that companies would use number that cost more. The rest relates to us.

asking for name and reference number does fuck all, most staff dont give a shit and even at that, the systems they use usually mark who took the call so all you are doing is making more work for yourself.

Here's a hack I found for my electric company, Pacific Gas and Electric in northern California. They have switched to voice recognition. When I had a problem with my electric meter I found out that the words "electricity meter, electricity and meter were not in its vocabulary. But, using the secret phrase, "I have a gun." or "I have hostages." always gets me through to an emergency operator within 15 seconds. Works for my health insurance company too.

no agent will ever give out a supervisors direct number, because they will be fired for this, if you cant navigate an automated service, you are a fuckin' retard and should not be using the phone in the first place, one thing is right though, I will always do everything in my power to help a polite customer, when an angry customer comes on the phone first thing that goes through my head, is fuck you im not giving you nothin'
