My friends and I spent one day watching one his sessions on tv, and because we're all Art Majors at our Arts highschool, we spent literally the whole time yelling things that he shouldn't be doing, such as the fact that he'd make a new colour that was the exact same as his last one, and the fact that all of the paint on his palette would be wasted because he uses to much. It was so good. And his hair's awesome, too.

It's funny, because some of the things he says in his show are things that i've been told by my art teachers over the years, /especially/ "You can't make a mistake." One of the teachers at my high school at least used to do a big assembly based solely on that fact/outlook for all the art prime students; they really drove it home.

I used to "watch" these in the 80's (ie: close my eyes and use them for relaxation - better than yoga or meditation). It's isn't Bob's folksy colloquialisms that grabs you, but the hypnotic effect of the the timbre/frequency of his voice combined with the husky rub of the the brush and the scritch of the paint knife - absolutely mesmerizing.

More recently I was able to put several Bob Ross shows on my iPod and I listen to his voice, his brush and his knife when I fall to sleep. I also have a few episodes on CD which I listen to in my car. For best soothing listening results I turn up the bass and turn down the treble.
