People's Temple members threw both of those things right out the window. They looked to Jones for answers to life's questions, and erased their own consciences.

It's sad and scary that about a thousand people lost their earthly life because they followed this false teacher, who was their "father", their "only", and their god. But it is just as sad and just as scary that so many more will reject eternal life because they'll watch or hear of Jonestown and think somehow it is compatible with Christianity, or that somehow Jim Jones represented Jesus Christ and His gospel.
If you want to know God and Christ, then read His Word, the Bible.
