i've been practicing Systema for three weeks now, and one thing thats repeated every day is "Make it YOUR Systema". You can learn the punches, rolls, kicks, locks & breaks - but ultimately how YOU apply them which works best for you makes it effective. Other arts yer just regugitating what someone else came up with.
Im from holland and I notice how alot of 'Western' Folks think this is stupid and just magic tricks. I did it a while, but man...you just gotta xperience it you know, it looks fake alot but everything is true !
It is clear that practical martial arts for many years and it is very difficult to implement schemes on the street, which is why i am convinced that it is necessary to learn how to move, and is achieved the miracle. The item is to be able to cope with risk situations that do not always have to do with a fight to blows.
my Systema but I dont have to prove anything. It is truly liberating. Not to mention it has helped me alot physically. I am confident that Systema is an amazing art and in the rare opportunities I have had to use it; it has allowed me to win without fuss or stress. Systema is highly effective and deceptivley brutal. You cannot judge it from the outside; try it and find out instead of knocking it. Theres alot more to it than meets the eye. Remember the true warrior is guided by love not pride :)
I have been practicing Systema for just a little under a year now and it has revolutionized not only the way I fight but the whole way I approach violence and daily life. I am far more relaxed, confident and Systema has helped chase out alot of the fears I used to have. It has opened my mind to question everything and learn from everything. I don't feel the need to knock other martial artists or other arts nor do I feel the need to show off. I know I have been building good combat skills thru
This 'non physical' work has nothing to do with the ultimate way to defend yourselves. It's a method used by a competent teacher to develop the sensitivity of the student. So the teacher just initiates. What the student does with it is up to him. So sometimes you'll see almost psychotic reactions. It's up to the interaction between student en teacher to regulate this in a positive way. No mystics and Mikhail is the first to admit this. Shame that it is only shown and not explained.
I have watched lots of systema videos on Youtube but still don't understand how that fat guy managed to take down his 'opponent' so fast. Did he use special breathing technique? Anybody here wants to answer my question?
@dinswok He works with tension in opponents obdy, with your momentum, timing and is always relaxed. He doesn't work against your actions. He works WITH them and one of the principles is distorting the axis of balance and taking out your supporting limbs, by moving your body in directions where its almost impossible to recover your balance form. Also there are no stances, no style, just fluid motions which grow from opponent exposing himself by being stiff and rigid while you remain relaxed
I did some research about the origins os Systema..
So basically it seems, Russia, just like China, had a lot of different martial arts. This is absolutely normal considering the size of Russia. Systema as it is today, is a mix of the best all these different arts had to offer, and was put together around 1930 and ONLY taught to Stalin's personal guards(Falcons), the true BEST. Ryabko learned directly from one of the very few Stalin's Falcons who survived. So, NO, not every setsnaz knows systema!

I think the reason krav maga and systema are often discussed in the same breath is because: they're both pretty much 20th century MA technique syntheses that were refined by and for the military, and secondly they've both come into the public eye relatively recently. they're certainly very different though.

The story, (as I understand it) for Ryabko systema is that Mikhail Ryabko learned an older style from his father. Ryabko refined or modified it some and started teaching.
There are several styles of Russian Systema that look similar but differ some in the way they are taught. All the styles claim to have come from ancient Russian martial arts.
@recshooter Ancient Russian martial art was definitely far from being a crowd of hypnotists... don't believe it my friend - it is 100% crap with one only aim - your pocket's / wallet's / cc's content.
@NewZealfighter the roots of systema come from the Russian Knights and Slav/Cossack warriors. It's a faith-based system that was also passed down through monks in monasteries. Systema isn't really a "style". It's natural, biomechanical movement.

Guys - this is all crap! There are no miracles in martial arts - only work, sweat and tears! If you want to learn real street fighting - you shoul learn it on real speed with full contact. It has shown me all the resons I doubted the previous styles I had trained in. A lot of what you already know will be relavent just not in the way you think. Give it a go.
Lots of us know from experience how effective Systema is, and few feel the need to go around denigrating other people's arts to prop up their own egos. Go to a class. See for yourself how light contact it is. Ever been punched by Vlad? I have, and have studied alongside many men who were high ranking instructors in other arts who dropped them like a bad girlfriend when they found Systema, men who taught the arts you cited. @StopMoColorado I Totally agree Ive been hit by Vlad, and some of his instructors, I thought I was going to die, & I'm a MMa fighter, this is real fighting, and the reason they don't go hard with everyone, because some people can get really hurt.
It all depends on who you are, and what work for you. Unorthodox ways may seem to work for some, while others stick to the more mainstream and popular martial arts. I'm not saying Systema is unorthodox, but people tends to group this with Krav Maga - which is a fail. I've tried attacking an experienced Systema practioneer, and it felt quite uncomfortable when he struck me and threw down.

I totally see what you're saying chairde, but those punches are strong and have plenty of scientific basis.
