This is not the cure, I love the band but this would be "the puke", I'm sorry but this song needs the keyboards to be Plainsong, fortunately they play another time with Roger and Lol in the keyboards we hope that they will bring us a great tour with them. Not to "the puke", yes to "the cure"

great song, great video. Here we go with gripes about Jason. Boris left the group in 1993. Jason has been with The Cure since 1995. He is not new, he is not weak, gawd.
@asuato I felt the exact opposite, when I saw them on this tour (Toronto) I was blown away, specifically at how they could do Plainsong without keyboards. This is a talented bunch of performers. And no one will argue about the songwriting.
Esta version fue grabada en Valencia, yo fui a ese concierto...lo mejor que he tenido la oportunidad de escuchar en mi vida...aun se me pone la piel de gallina al recordarlo
I am so glad this song is captured live with Porl's grindy guitar!!!! I absolutely LOVE this version as opposed to the original now! It sounds awesome on vid - but multiply it by 1000 and that's how good it is LIVE!!!! With it SO LOUD!!! The music completely envelopes you and carries you to another level!!! (No I do not do drugs!!) :)
hahaha i wake up to this face everymorning! my wife's makeup runs, her hair gets in knots! i always tell her "Robert Smith! an autograph!?" haha LOL cheers! i concur - the Cure f'ing rules!
I'm a cure fan from awhile back...and I think this is pretty cool. I haven't been that keen on the new stuff but I think Jason is a great drummer. He's more of a rock guy, but he's rock solid in his timing. Everything changes...and that's a good thing. Great song by the way!
This is fucking sad how bad they sound here :( I really like and admire The Cure but without keyboard it's just not the same. Please Robert stop playing "rock" music and start playing "The Cure" music.
Not as good without synth, in my opionion. This is good, but not great, reminds me of Pink Floyd with Porl Playing all these lead parts with synth. And not too impressed with either Pink Floyd, or the new guitar, 4 piece take on the Cure songs. Bring back Roger...
Yeah this guitar version sounds incredible. I couldn't decide which one is better though. The synth version is obviously the original, but I reckon both sound equally amazing.
i mean live the cure can do no wrong in my opinion. i just wish that they could find a keyboard player, it just really makes alot of the songs. plainsong deff being 1 of the big synth songs
Okay, first of all - Shut up. Boris Williams was a great drummer, but he relied on basic rhythms a bit too much. Listen to "Jupiter Crash", and then to "Ocean" and "Out of this World", as well as "Us and Them". You'll see that Jason isn't sticking to the same basic beat throughout the song, but is constantly changing and making the drums sound fresh. The reason Plainsong sounds so bad here is because there is no booming snare or low end Keys. That's all. Get your facts right before you spam
FYI, Jupiter Crash was demoed by Boris. He recorded it and Jason just copied it.
Has Jason created a memorable intro like In Between days, WCIBY, etc? or long great patterns like Last Dance?
What Jason does -and you agree- is change the pattern and play whatever comes to his mind at the time. No order, no creativity, no good sound. Sadly that's Jason's characteristics. He sounded better in 1995. After that he declined more and more and more.
That's just not true. Boris had long since left the band before demos for WMS were recording, because Robert was stuck in that legal battle with Lol. Jupiter Crash was entirely Jason. It's not even Boris' style of playing.
Boris is gone, get over it. Jason is a great drummer, he just needs a better choice in drum kits (and for the band to get a bloody keyboardist!)
Sorry but if you don't know the truth then please dont try to discredit me!
This is from an interview of SEPTEMBER 1994!
What sort of direction is the new material going in?
it's a very strange mixture. Probably my favourite 2 or 3 songs are quite 'accousticy': brushes, accoustic guitar, strings...
WMS is mostly brushes, accoustic guits & strings. SO? what do you say now? Jupiter Crash style is BORIS'. That repetitive long patterns are Boris' style. Jason is "constantly changing" as u said.
@jamintaylor I totally agree. Jason Cooper has proven himself far more than enough and he totally deserves our respect, the same way Robert respects him.
The drums are shit on this song, and most of the tunes without keyboard sound empty. Robert should put someone to play keyboard, specially on this song.
I don't see why everyone dislikes Jason Cooper. He is a perfectly capable drummer and has been with the band for long enough to earn some respect. He's got Roberts respect otherwise he wouldn't be in the band. I'm sick of all the negativity being thrown his way.
perhaps i may look a litle stupid to repeat it but theu need keyboards back. ii´d like to hear "homesick" again and i don´t thin Porl could do it with a guitar.
I agree!! awesome footage.. So good Porl is back!!..and the drums are very weak. I wish boris williams was with the cure still. there are lots of live songs that are not the same anymore...
He is the former guitarist, and their actual too :p, but he left "easy cure" because he didn't like the way the music was taking form (kind of minimalist music, and he didn't like that).
the bald person is porl thompson, a longtime member of the band, and one of the greatest guitarists in the UK, at least. he left the cure in the early 90's to play with robert plant and jimmy page of led zeppelin, but returned. its nice to know someone else think he handles his baldness pretty well XD
It sounds like that, but if you know about effects and guitar...you notice that he is not even picking the strings, and the keyboard part is played somewhere else in the backstage by an unknown guy, thats what I suppose
that is incorrect. he is picking the strings but letting them ring. the same as it was on the festival 2005 DVD. I HATE this song now without keyboards. Don't get me wrong, I love the song, just not this way.
And if the keys are there, they are part of the pre-recorded backing tracks they have been using for years.
he IS picking the strings. Not overly strumming them, but very lightly. The festival version of this song,he is hitting them harder, which makes it sound more like shite.. I just think that it is a little tighter by now, after them having to listen to that godawful version of it.
if you hate this song now, you are a FUCKING MORON. Go see them live with the guitar playing the synth parts, stop bitching, it sounds AMAZING LIVE!! Stick to britney spears u loser.
Absoluetly beautiful. I remember just before Festival 2005 was released I came across the keyless version of this song and it brought me to tears. I thought that without Roger the band would struggle on stage.. how wrong I was.
I remember at wembley this year this was the opening song and when it started my heart stopped for a perfect second. It was the most amazing opening song and that moment was the best of my life. I seriously wanna walk down the isle to this song.
