  • hes the god father of punk new wave rocknroll and eveyrthin

  • @BlueOrpheus1988 again best of luck finding a life. There is a thumbs down and comments section for a reason fucktard. When I need some bitch's permission to speak my mind I'll let you know. Until then I think your late, Lou reed needs his blow job, have fun walkin on the wild side asshole.

  • Wait, this is what the Lou Reed/Metallica song "The view" sounds like.

  • Kill your sons.

  • I'm a 32 year old in Thailand. I ran away at 26. My mom killed me.

  • This song is so true about young peoples mental illness in America!!

  • This is the best version of this great Lou Reed song.

  • Lou Reed is much better than this fucking rock scene in 90´s and 00´s.He really rules.

  • @MetalMachineManiac If you don't like my post ignore it, illogical prick.

  • Comment removed

  • Red hot - its got the lot! This song still hits the spot after all these years.

  • THIS SONG JUST DOESN'T WORK......i like it but just has bad fow

  • I LOVE Lou Reed REALLY but He sings like SHIT and so False most of the Time s

And he doesn't give a Fuck he does it on purpose

    I really don t understand WHY ?????

When You go to see Re Band The Velvet underground and you have Lou Reed massacring his OWN melody ? *I caught an interview where Mick Ronson talks about that in"the making of Transformer" ^^

  • Fuckin great. I love Lou Reed's laid back style. Anyone who says he isn't one of the greatest musicians of all time either doesn't play an instrument or do vocals or knows fuck all about music. Lou Reed the greatest psycedellic musician of all time. Even if it feels like he has random guitar solo's that sound out of tune that is what he is going for that is his style. He gives a laid back feeling that's what makes him great. Fucking what would the world do without Lou Reed. Long Live LOU REED.

  • Legendary! The song is about Mr. Reed's electro-shock treatments when he was 17, you know.

  • god father of punk new album metal machine mu-sick

  • god father of punk

  • The V.U. aside, this 3-piece is probably the best band Lou ever played with...

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!

  • Jay-suzz... that IS "total destruction!" Why don't I remember him sounding like that in 1987 on the "New York" tour (Milwaukee, Eagle's Ballroom).

I went w/ a lot of bong-worshipping Deadheads from my dorm who, I was sure, worshipped Reed for all the wrong reasons - namely, spoonfed feedings of "Sweet Jane" on their hometown AOR stations (in btwn blocks of Led Zeppelin, Clapton and Foreigner!)

I ignored him for that reason & focussed on his warm-up band, the Feelies, for that very reason!!!

  • hey i made punk version of this song, anyone interested in hearing it check out > soundcloud dot / electrocock

  • @janochanotariusz Punk is dead. thank god.

  • @latinroman whatever

  • Lou Reed must dig androgenous-looking drummers, lol..

  • @Sirlongpass Can you please tell me if version of Kill Your Sons ever appeared in an album? I think this version is a lot better that the ones in "Live in Italy" and "Legendary Hearts". Do you know if this version ever appeared in a CD? Thanks for uploading this btw. Probably listened to this at least thirty times. Thanks

  • @TheColorEarth Kill Your Sons was on the Berlin album. Its fantastic.

  • @dannypurple1979 was it really?....i think it was sally cant dance album

  • @dannypurple1979 No - Sally Can't Dance. It's often lumped in with Berlin because Sally Can't Dance is kind of frowned upon by the "true fans," but this song is well-liked.

  • "When they shoot you up with Thorazine on Crystal Smoke you choke like a son of a gun".

Robert Quine brought out the best in Lou. Some of his most intense and beautiful songs came out of this period.

For more on Robert check out any RIchard Hell and The Voidoids anthology.

    RIP Robert!

  • i loved velved underground and i love this

  • greatest solo ive ever heard, coming a guitarist myself

  • If I´d seen this live I would have fainted. Andy Warhol was in the audience in this gig. My first ever rock video I bought and still the best.

  • I love Lou, but I swear when he performs a lot of the time, he completely forgets the melody to lots of songs an how he previously played them...or maybe just does what he feels on the day. But not this time. Lou nails it just like on the studio version, plays and sings well, a brilliant performance, great band and Lou at his best!

  • Monster Bass tone!!!!

  • Fred Maher Rocked it..Then came Scritti Politti and that's where he shined the brightest period!!!!

  • In my opinion, the finest ever Lou Reed footage.

  • Lou Reed is awesome, this is a great song, maybe his best.

  • el solo es acojonante, nadie puede igualar su manera de tocar la guitarra....

    "amazing" solo.

  • 'Sweet Jane!!!! This Is Good !!!!!' Whew Lou!!!

  • Great lineup, possibly the best Reed ever toured with. You should check out Quine's manic riffing on "Waves Of Fear." He still had all the same amazing energy from the old Voidoids.

  • Typo - I meant "Loox"

  • Lokks like that Drummer was enjoying himself.

  • The bassist looks completely out of it.

  • ungh ungh! ... *Sally can't dance' ... one me fav tracks... Live versions a tad more Pop'ish but hey? its Live.

  • I rember when the Navy forced meinto a Phy ward in 78. IThey put me on Haldol that shit sucked I sturrted around and became a sombie. Yea this song brings me right back hope noone has to go their it is no fun no funat all!

  • alot of these songs were about himself, After the velvets his family sent him to a mental hosp. all true shit.

  • @michael07307 ...before the velvets. As in when he was a kid. For his bisexual urges.

  • I remember not being able to sleep in a psychward about an hour or two than i'd pace for hours, I couldn't focus to read a book or relax at all, they did nothing to help me as when i asked for help they gave me more of the drugs casuing the problem I took myself off them after 2-3 days I could sleep again, they wouldn't even give me aspirin for my leg cramps from pacing, see THUD Exerpiment. Psychiatry is a joke, dont get sick.

  • @888archangel No shit. In my case it was a "nervous disorder," but the whole thing was like trying to dowse embers with oil.

  • Untill they run away!!!

  • Actually there have been relatively recent cases of people being illegally subjected to electroconvulsive "therapy".

  • where when why?

  • everything about lou reeds lead playing shouldnt work, he bends random notes, uses loads of feedback, hits bum notes, but for some reason everytime he solos, it sounds like he's communicating with some sort of spiritual force, it's just magic.

  • What a Great Bass , Fernando Saunders

I was in the front row

  • I know what he means here! I was institutionalized for four years. It made an artist out of me, because I couldn't finish a sentence. Lost all my friends and it took 2 decades to get back to where I am now. Psychiatric treatment is somewhere between a crap shoot and Russian roulette.

  • O-some footage! nice quality too! Thanx for postin

  • Hey take the guitar off of his hands he's totally a dumb!

  • bet you are better

  • Great stuff. I loved this lineup, Quine really added punch and energized Lou I think.

  • He did- Quine is the reason that Lou is even playing the lead parts. He gave him so much confidence beyond his own roles as one of the great lead guitarists of rock and roll. And then Lou got rid of him and we got those albums in the mid 80s.

  • stirring performance, and great Lou's guitar solo !!excellent!!*****

  • Lou Reed is amazing and has style.

  • You Should open up your mind

    i listen to older music

if you were a muscian or even a real fan of

    music you would understand

  • i understand what you mean..specially gorillaz and gnarls barkley are just amazing...but try to see people like lou, 80s punk like butthole surfers or pixies and all those 60s bands like very very important musicians that made posible that you listen to strokes or the stripes now...and dont forget you need to listen to lou and hendrix when you are stoned with a good friend that knows what good old music is about

  • and not just musicians...also personalities...just look at lou and his lyrics... i like the strokes and some indie bands but they all look like little rich kids doing the rocknroll their parents listenned to 30 years before compared to lou reed...he is just amazing

  • I'm part of a "newer generation" and I think they're both excellent in their own ways: I love the strokes, but this is the roots of that- Nikolai is a great bassist- but Saunders is a virtuoso, Alfred and Nick are great lead guitarists- but Lou Reed & Robert Quite are animals- the strokes needed to prove they were cool. These guys already knew/invented it. There would be no strokes or WS without this- go listen to White Light/White Heat and tell me it doesn't compare to Room on Fire or Elephant.

  • Hell yeah.

    :)

  • @punkace

You're probably right about The Strokes, although I'm not that into them, but The White Stripes would've come along as long as there was a Link Wray, lol. No doubt Reed was an influence on nearly everything that came after him, but Jack White is primarily a bluesman, where The Strokes are "alt" rockers. Long live Jack White and Lou Reed.

  • I have never heard this live before either good song!!

  • thanks so much, I've always wanted to hear the live version.

undisputed.. no bullshit.. balls-to-the-wall rock & roll.

  • Total destruction...Lou's back to Velvet Underground intensity levels, here...

  • @LemurScat97

intensity where I nearly fell asleep.

  • @Alhambrattp if you dont like why listen to it? fucking nonsensical idiot.

  • @Alhambrattp Usually when I dont like something like music I turn it off listen to something else. Have you got any hands? go back to listen to your overated Metallica shite before coming here thinking you know it all about music. your the musical version of an inbred hick, you dont like anything different.

  • @BlueOrpheus1988

You the prefect version of an internet troll. if you can't handle the comments section don't read it retard.

  • @Alhambrattp Im obviously a troll who dislikes fucking metallica fans who troll every fucking lou reed song. go practise master of puppets whilst forming a pentangle you fuckwit cunt.

  • fagot

  • what happened to the original guitar solo, was it originally played by reed?

  • yeah he is usually a rhythm man. Im surprised to see him shred it here.

  • who is the drumer?

  • great!!!!!!!!!!

  • All of the drugs that we took

It really was lots of fun

But when they shoot you up on thorazine with crystal smoke

    You choke like a son-of-a-gun

    Best lyrics Reed ever wrote.

  • why ?

  • why not?

  • that is really not an answer, but to answer your question:

because Lou made so much better lyrics later.

not to say it is bad, cause it isn't.

  • Mama called me on the phone

She don't know what to do about Dad

He took an ax and he broke the table

    Aren't you glad you're married?

  • Look at Lou kicking ass with that gutiar solo.

  • Sally Can't Dance-Dessert Island stuff

  • The best solo of 1983. And since 1893

  • As an album you can't beat Lou's: "Ecstasy" it's fucking brilliant.

  • Fuckin LOU's got attitude man!

  • Listen to Dirt.

  • What is Dirt?

  • A song off "street hassle" from 1978. Has TONS of attitude. Its up.

  • Lou Reed is attitude.

  • thnx 4 posting a favourite! great video!

  • I think Lou need a Marshall in this one. That was fucking great though. And I agree, it was nothing like the studio version, which was also pissa. Great to see the camera actually on a solo.

  • i love this song,it remains me to youth's memory..i'm not a musician,but as Lou Reed i won my "little"battle...

  • one of the best song of MR Reed, and what a fucked guitar solo!!!!!!

  • Nice clip. But go back and dissect the studio version of 'Kill Your Sons' and the reason it WORKS is the lead guitar from beginning 'til end. That's what holds it all together. The lead guitar here is muted until Reed turns it up at the end for his guitar solo. This version is fine on its own, but the studio version was ten times stronger.

  • Are you insane this shits all over the original

  • Nope, not insane. This and the studio version are like two completely different songs. I guess if someone is into guitar jams they would prefer this version.

  • Wow, that was incredible - that's how you play a guitar.

By way of comparison, Robert Quine was not playing his guitar at all - what the hell, it looked like he was just lazily open-strumming it?

  • looking for new age and dont talk to me about work from this show. anyone???

  • f**king great solo!

  • from the fear of a blind family and completely brainless doctors to the glory of his so high talent!!a masterpice..thanks for posting!!!!

  • one of the best song of Lou Reed, what a guitar!!thanks a lot 4 posting!!!

  • no electroshook teraphy would have been destroy a so great mind like the Reed one!!!

  • Classic!

  • Sincere congratulations!!unfortunately this song(that's,with no doubt one of the best of lou reed)very often disappears from youtube, currently there is another video of this song, but your quality level is very very higher....so,thank a lots for posting!!In truth, very well done!!
