I LOVE Lou Reed REALLY but He sings like SHIT and so False most of the Time s
And he doesn't give a Fuck he does it on purpose
I really don t understand WHY ?????
When You go to see Re Band The Velvet underground and you have Lou Reed massacring his OWN melody ? *I caught an interview where Mick Ronson talks about that in"the making of Transformer" ^^
Fuckin great. I love Lou Reed's laid back style. Anyone who says he isn't one of the greatest musicians of all time either doesn't play an instrument or do vocals or knows fuck all about music. Lou Reed the greatest psycedellic musician of all time. Even if it feels like he has random guitar solo's that sound out of tune that is what he is going for that is his style. He gives a laid back feeling that's what makes him great. Fucking what would the world do without Lou Reed. Long Live LOU REED.
Jay-suzz... that IS "total destruction!" Why don't I remember him sounding like that in 1987 on the "New York" tour (Milwaukee, Eagle's Ballroom).
I went w/ a lot of bong-worshipping Deadheads from my dorm who, I was sure, worshipped Reed for all the wrong reasons - namely, spoonfed feedings of "Sweet Jane" on their hometown AOR stations (in btwn blocks of Led Zeppelin, Clapton and Foreigner!)
I ignored him for that reason & focussed on his warm-up band, the Feelies, for that very reason!!!
@Sirlongpass Can you please tell me if version of Kill Your Sons ever appeared in an album? I think this version is a lot better that the ones in "Live in Italy" and "Legendary Hearts". Do you know if this version ever appeared in a CD? Thanks for uploading this btw. Probably listened to this at least thirty times. Thanks
@dannypurple1979 No - Sally Can't Dance. It's often lumped in with Berlin because Sally Can't Dance is kind of frowned upon by the "true fans," but this song is well-liked.
I love Lou, but I swear when he performs a lot of the time, he completely forgets the melody to lots of songs an how he previously played them...or maybe just does what he feels on the day. But not this time. Lou nails it just like on the studio version, plays and sings well, a brilliant performance, great band and Lou at his best!
Great lineup, possibly the best Reed ever toured with. You should check out Quine's manic riffing on "Waves Of Fear." He still had all the same amazing energy from the old Voidoids.
I rember when the Navy forced meinto a Phy ward in 78. IThey put me on Haldol that shit sucked I sturrted around and became a sombie. Yea this song brings me right back hope noone has to go their it is no fun no funat all!
I remember not being able to sleep in a psychward about an hour or two than i'd pace for hours, I couldn't focus to read a book or relax at all, they did nothing to help me as when i asked for help they gave me more of the drugs casuing the problem I took myself off them after 2-3 days I could sleep again, they wouldn't even give me aspirin for my leg cramps from pacing, see THUD Exerpiment. Psychiatry is a joke, dont get sick.
everything about lou reeds lead playing shouldnt work, he bends random notes, uses loads of feedback, hits bum notes, but for some reason everytime he solos, it sounds like he's communicating with some sort of spiritual force, it's just magic.
I know what he means here! I was institutionalized for four years. It made an artist out of me, because I couldn't finish a sentence. Lost all my friends and it took 2 decades to get back to where I am now. Psychiatric treatment is somewhere between a crap shoot and Russian roulette.
He did- Quine is the reason that Lou is even playing the lead parts. He gave him so much confidence beyond his own roles as one of the great lead guitarists of rock and roll. And then Lou got rid of him and we got those albums in the mid 80s.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
its so hard to get into the majority of older music when your a strong observer of 90s and 2000 music. lou reed just doesnt compare to the strokes or white stripes for me. different sounds i know, but even live... inferior! i know the older generation has a hard time understanding this because they can't relate but i guess thats why they cant get into good indie music.
i understand what you mean..specially gorillaz and gnarls barkley are just amazing...but try to see people like lou, 80s punk like butthole surfers or pixies and all those 60s bands like very very important musicians that made posible that you listen to strokes or the stripes now...and dont forget you need to listen to lou and hendrix when you are stoned with a good friend that knows what good old music is about
and not just musicians...also personalities...just look at lou and his lyrics... i like the strokes and some indie bands but they all look like little rich kids doing the rocknroll their parents listenned to 30 years before compared to lou reed...he is just amazing
I'm part of a "newer generation" and I think they're both excellent in their own ways: I love the strokes, but this is the roots of that- Nikolai is a great bassist- but Saunders is a virtuoso, Alfred and Nick are great lead guitarists- but Lou Reed & Robert Quite are animals- the strokes needed to prove they were cool. These guys already knew/invented it. There would be no strokes or WS without this- go listen to White Light/White Heat and tell me it doesn't compare to Room on Fire or Elephant.
You're probably right about The Strokes, although I'm not that into them, but The White Stripes would've come along as long as there was a Link Wray, lol. No doubt Reed was an influence on nearly everything that came after him, but Jack White is primarily a bluesman, where The Strokes are "alt" rockers. Long live Jack White and Lou Reed.
@Alhambrattp Usually when I dont like something like music I turn it off listen to something else.
