I love guns myself. That being said, I find all this obsession with self defense and preparedness (SHTF or whatever) pretty fucking ridiculous. You're all a bunch of little kids and you're not fucking around with toys. These are implements of death, and i don't think most of you know the first thing about death. You remind me of all the kids playing their xbox wanting to go to war. its just unrealistic. carry a gun if you're prepared to live and die by it.
I'm thinking about getting a hi point, and i was wondering, how many rounds did you put through that hi point, and how many malfunctions did you experience.
My first dedicated carry gun was a Taurus PT-145. That is what I carry most often. When I need to carry something lighter, I carry either a Kel-Tec PF9, or a Glock 26. The Taurus was a nightmare of a gun and had to go back to the factory 5 times before they agreed to replace it. The new one has been flawless. The PF9 had some mag problems but they sent the parts for free. Best CS I of any gun company. The Glock is boring. It just goes bang. I think .40 is an advertising gimmick.
Glock 17 is my personal favorite. My wife loves her 9mm XDm. It is all personal preference. I do agree though, whatever it is that YOU have is what YOU need to practice with. Nothing is more important to me than being able to protect my family. I'd carry a fork in my pocket if that is all I had.
I prefer to purchase weapons economically while still obtaining the tools I need to get the job done. So yes, if I have no weapon, I would look & consider the Hi-Point side arms, carbines, & the Pardner shot guns.
I agree, there are people out there who are narcissists & prefer having high quality weapons and brand names for reasons of self-image, show-n-tell, & justified by arguments of high quality, I am not one of those people.
also i like large cap. mags for me to help improve my shooting skills and i always look at cost of ammo of what im going to shoot for ex. i love kel tech 22 with 30 round mags, after i little looking i found out that 22magnum rounds are the same price of the 9mm i shot , so i said no to that
i like the glock 19 personally imh bias, because that what i own....i chose it because its simple in function and very reliable. mechanically speaking it's a work of art. the simply the workings of the internals.. the break down to every part , is a breeze..Reliablity is awesome , I changed trigger bar and firing pin spring , with the lighter spring had 2 ftf. changed spring back and has been 100precent.
Great video. My answer is the gun I have is better than the gun I want. Meaning that 1911's are awesome but they do me no good on a shelf at a store...if all I have is a hi point or sw40ve or kel tec they will get it done!!
Economy wise, you can go with the Hi Point C9, but safety as a novice can be an issue. Personally, I prefer the Sigs because of the decocker, but as a novice without training could be an issue as well. They aren't too expensive, but very safe, IMO. Obviously only my opinion as most others. We all have our favorites. I am not biased, just like the Sigs.
HK P7. It's compact enough for most forms of carry, 9 rounds of 9mm, and the squeeze cocker gets you a single action trigger pull, with an easy second strike if need be.
The Glock 19 is similar, and lighter, I just don't like the light trigger if it's not coupled with a safety. Any 4" revolver (Watch out on heavy calibers for over penetration). Any 1911 that isn't beyond the 5" barrel. (That's pushing the limit of space)
First off, I could not agree more with the 'make what you can afford work' statement. I like the 1911 as for its safety features and the 45 ACP is a round most will regard as a very good round. Is it the end all of choices? No. I also carry a Ruger SR40C which I regard as one of the finest choices. The HI-POINT is also a good choice if thats all you can afford. There are no wrong answers here. Thanks for the thought provoking video, ald for all you do for the YT community.
#1 GLOCK 20 FOR KNOCK DOWN POWER #2 glock 19 i have a lot of 30 round mags for it and ammo is cheap #3 a good s&w or ruger 357 because they will shoot 38 and 357 shell's #4 a good 22 revolver also ammo is cheap and you can carry a lot of it JUST MY 2 CENTS just my 2cents
I'm a 1911 man myself. If you want something DA/SA that's thinner than the Glock and don't mind a little more weight, try out the CZ75. The CZ75 D Compact is a GREAT GREAT CCW piece. 9mm, double-action/single-action and I believe holds 14 rounds in it... Correct me if I'm wrong.
I like my Taurus PT 145... 10 rounds of 45acp. Light enough and small enough to conceal, heavy and substancial enough to feel like its going to be there for you when you need it. I've thrown 300 rounds thru it in the last 2 months, and had only a handful of failures, mainly due to grime (after 100+ rounds uncleaned). Cost was 330... practice ammo is 20 a box of 50. Not as cheap as I would like, but ok. There's my 2 cents...
hi point because it is most accessible to your everyday citizen here and now. anybody at any point in time has about 130 bucks laying around somewhere, and for 150 dollars you have a gun and enough ammo (except ammo to practice with). lifetime warranty and good customer service. only downside is hipoints jam when you limp wrist it being a blowback action
@ARTONY92 i normally would say save up and get something better than a hi point but if it's your only option it's definitely better than nothing and to be honest, all that really matters is that it works. i'd take it over a slingshot any day.
Glock 19. It is a well rounded weapon. You can conceal it but it has enough mass to feel substantial in hand. $10/ box of 50 for target ammo. Can't go wrong.
I am going with a Glock 19 or 23 you cant beat them, they run great, good magazine capacity, and they are extremely reliable. Oh one more thing you have a rail you can put a light on either of them!
Like Clint Smith says-the best gun for personal defense is the gun you have. Learn to use it-keep it in good working order and practice practice practice
any type of hand gun is good for self defense as long as you can hit what your shooting at and stop your target even if it take the whole magazine to do so
Best home defence handgun to be less vague. You question is not specific enough to answer.
45acp revolver. Enough power to stop anyone but slow enough round to not penetrate a lot
of walls. Anyone in my family can handle it without practice. Subsonic rounds won't destroy
your eardrums with sound in a small room. Pistol is quick to reload with moon clips . But its too bulky for anyone but a fat man to conceal in the summer. If you can't take out an intruder with 6
@semperfi1000 6 rounds goes damn quick under stress, and when your adrenalin is jacked up dont be supprised if most of your rounds miss the target that just so happens to be moving and probably trying to shoot you as well
Everything else is pretty much icing on the cake. However, my main caveat is to have a gun with more rounds... rather than less. Everyone misses, especially with a handgun, especially when their life is in danger... its better to have more rounds (a.k.a. chances to hit) before you have to reload.
And, that pretty much disqualifies most revolvers and subcompacts. But, see point #1. It is better than nothing.

The best handgun is anything You shoot well, are comfortable enough with to shoot often, and it has to go bang every time it's asked to...I love my West Germany stamped sig p220 in 45...But I've shot well with alot of guns...That high point shown has two functions though, shooting of course, and it's so heavy if it don't fire throw it at the guy...either way it'll knock his ass out...
im a revolver guy myself but the bottom line is like you said the gun you can shoot well is the best if you have the latest and greatest but cant hit the side of a barn with it its worthless to you
@millerusaf You said it at :44 and :49. "The best handgun is the handgun you operate best. Or sometimes just the handgun you can afford..." Both statements apply in my situation. I own a Smith & Wesson Sigma SW40VE and love it! It's affordable and reliable. I use it for both concealed carry and home defense. But I'd love to own a shotgun for the latter.
@COLT45keith So YOU don't have enough money to shoot it and YOU it's too big/heavy to carry (even though it weighs less than most 1911's). Taurus is half the price of a Ruger, hardly comparable plus the Rugers are even heavier and bulkier.
@gboyd242 Taurus 44 tracker ss $632.00 34oz...Ruger SP101 ss $639.00 27oz....
cheap 44 mag $42.00 a box...cheap 38 special $22.00 a box...
At a nearly $1.00 a shot only a rich guy could afford to train with it "which a rich guy wouldn't buy a taurus to start with" and without practice YOU shouldn't be carrying anyway...
@COLT45keith I thought we were talking 44 mags. Where did 38 special and the SP101 come into this? Taurus is about about $450 and the Ruger (redhawk) is about $750. Plenty of rich guys don't have an unfounded dislike for Taurus handguns, I know a couple personally.
@gboyd242 Look back at the comments, thats what you replied to my Ruger SP101 357 mag recommendation, which you can shoot the much more affordable 38 special.
I cant see recommending a 44 mag or like the guy below a "2000.00 HK socom" to anybody
@COLT45keith Here is your entire post that I responded to: "Yall say 44 magnum...how are you going to carry a 44 magnum??? And who's going to use a 380 at home???
The people with no brains always come out on these vids...Pointless..."
The best handgun for self defence is the one you HAVE! If it's a Les Baer 1911 that's at home in your safe because it's a PITA to carry then it's no good. If it's a Taurus snub nose .38 that's in your front pocket when you need it then it's as good as it's going to get at that moment.
i would think the taurus judge would be good for home def. because the 410 rounds would be less likely to over penatrate interior walls and strike a family member in the next room
What ever gets rounds on target and is 100% reliable, Springfield XD 40 service model works for me, been carrying it ccw for about 2 years. wouldn't trade it for anything.
Okay, okay, I'll pick one: Kel-Tec P11. It's slim, light, compact, fires a very common and cheap-to-shoot yet effective cartridge, has a 10+1 capacity (12+1 with optional flush-fit mag), has a long track record (since the 90's), less prone to limp-wristing than other subcompacts (like the PF9), USA-made, lifetime warranty, can accept S&W 59 mags (15+1 capacity), and can be used for a CCW and/or home defense, and costs under $300. There! Top that! Nyahhh! :-p
Metro Arms 19111 Government Model II. Great gun will do everything a Kimber Warrior will do and has a better trigger for a 1/3 the price. I also love the S&W M&P as well as the Old M&P series Revolvers.
One that works. One that you shoot the best. One that you will carry and not leave home in the safe. One that you will practice with. If the hi point works and you can hit with it, so be it.
very dependent on weather and situation. if its winter and i can dress thick or know im gonna be in a bad area a full size double stack like a sig 226 in 40 would be a great option for size, mag capacity, and sight radius. if i want comfort or summer a 1911 is best because a 45 will almost always put someone down, its easy to conceal, very confertable and they come in every flavor and price. with one plus, i havent met anyone who cant shoot a 1911 well enough to not hit center mass.
i think hi points would be great survival weapons, everyone can afford one, so buy one two or three of them and you can have one of each caliber so no matter what you can find the ammo. just my opinion
Yet again I am reminded of CA stupid age restriction on handguns. Oh well, my opinion (non-expert of course) is that rifles will put someone out of commission much more effectively than a pistol anyway....uh oh bad guy coming...now if i can just get my M1 through a doorway....
@MaximusRightAngle The 21 for handgun law isn't stupid. I'm for concealed carry and the fundamental right to self defense wherever, whenever but I don't want most college students bringing firearms to campus. As for the video I would go with the M1911 but I'm honestly a snubby/glock guy myself.
@34601k unfortunately too many shootings happen on college and high school campuses, i wouldn't mind a few students to legally carry to be honest with you
@trvmcintosh high school?? you can't be 21 and in high school. But in terms of college, most students are pretty careless like what if they decide to get drunk at a party. In cases of college having a vigilant police force is best since its a limited area. Like my campus has 22 full time officers to patrol 175 acres. So far we've had no violent crime for the last 5 on campus and we are on the edge of East Los Angeles.
the one I can fire once per second, hitting a 12" target 10 yards away, with each shot, for 4 full magazines/moon clips, and afford a 1000 round case of FMJ for it once a year.
I say ANY handgun you (1.) can afford (2.) feel comfortable shooting (3.) are able to practice with regularly (4.) and is comfortable for you to carry around
Like you said there is no one gun fits all. The main things to look at are first and foremost reliability. Every manufacturer out there makes duds now and then so you need to make sure YOUR gun is 100%. Next thing I chose by is the largest caliber I can put rounds on target fast. The old saying of what good is "X" caliber if you can't hit with it.
Impossible to say. What is right for one person might not be right for another and it could depend on circumstances that could restrict what you could have or use in a particular situation. Only thing you could really answer with is a gun that works. What ever it is it should go BANG when you pull the trigger and you should be proficient with how to operate it.
you could go s&w airwieght 357 or 38 special both around 400 ish. rockisland for 1911a lovers thats at arounf a 400 dollar prices range. that a glock 3 if its in your budget at 500 ish dont have enough exprance experience about m&p and xd to promote them oh and the fnp series of hand guns great choice to look into im going to buy fnp 45 usg 16 rounds of 45 acp thumb safety and decock with out without saftey but m&p can be had same way alot of times
I carry (in my opinion) two of the most controversial handguns ever made. A HI POINT .40S&W and a RÖHM .38 Special revolver for a backup. WHY? Because I can’t afford a “Better” guns. But I train with what I have and am proficient with them.
For home, a full size pistol because it will handle much better than a compact CC type pistol. For CC, I like the slim PF9; but, it is snappy. Probably won't even notice in a high stress situation, though.
I have tried a lot of small 9mm's and the Kahr CM9 works best for me. It is reliable and is a compact easy to carry pistol. For home defence I like a full sized pistol.
I carry a Bersa .380. If I am unfortunate enough to have to use it to defend myself, I won't be out $600 when the cops confiscate it and it won't cost $600 to replace it. Less chance of over penetration with the smaller caliber. Speer JHP in a .380 is a formidable combination, because I am the one wielding it. My first thought is STOPPING an aggressor, not killing him. But my .380 will do either IF NECESSARY. NO ONE is going to volunteer to get shot with my little .380 because it's only a .380.
@Doublekix2112 Unless you're doing a drive by, I don't see why a citizen lawfully defending themselves won't get their firearm back. Guns were designed to kill people primarily. As my understanding is, guns are designed to kill people primarily, not injure them. I think if you're carrying to a gun to injure them, then you're carrying the wrong piece. A tazer or bean bag shotgun were designed to injure to people.
@esh325 Because in the real world, the law isn't always on the side of who is right, it's what the attorneys can prove. And the burden of proof falls on the victim who had to use deadly force to defend himself. You defended your life, then you have to defend your actions. "In theory" and "the real world" are very different when it comes to killing someone, justified self defense or not. And I am carrying the exact piece I want. Guns are designed as a tool to be used how one sees fit.
@HunterKiller308 Well, I have my own views and opinions on the subject. And I'm not wrong. Neither are you. Your views and opinions just don't happen to perfectly line up with mine on this. We're all on the same side here it would appear. Let's not forget that. Personally I don't want to be dead OR in prison due to defending myself, so I approach the situation with what I think is a well-rounded approach. It works for me.
@Doublekix2112 If they really have reason to believe you're a dangerous person that shouldn't get their firearm back, then you would have a criminal record and you wouldn't be able to lawfully buy another Bersa. Or perhaps they would get a warrant to confiscate all your firearms. They aren't stupid. I'm not an expert on the law, but that's just my understanding of it.
@esh325 No they aren't stupid, but they do have an agenda. The way the laws should work has no bearing on how they do work. We're talking about taking the life of another human being, even if it is justified self defense. You'll have to defend your actions against those who want to win the case as much as you do. Everything you have ever said or written will be brought into court to make you look like a nut job gun freak,..in front of 12 people not smart enough to get out of jury duty.
@Doublekix2112 Guns are primarily designed to kill people. It's hard to really question that. "used how one sees fit" really put things up in the air.
@esh325 Again, in my opinion, a CCW permit is not a license to kill someone. It simply gives you another tool with which to defend yourself. If by simply drawing my weapon in self defense I can deter an attacker, then I don't need to shoot him. A firearm "used as how one sees fit" doesn't put anything up in the air. It's a tool for a purpose: Self defense. But just because I have a gun doesn't mean I have to use it to kill someone. If I pull it and aim and he runs off, then we're done.
@Doublekix2112 if you pull a gun or knife or any weapon on someone and you are not fully prepared to use it without hesitation you are going to get fucked up
@HunterKiller308 I absolutely agree. I would never pull my weapon in self defense unless i was prepared to use deadly force. All I'm saying is that I have to determine in a split second if pulling the trigger is necessary to defend myself. If I do, I'm going to have to prove it in a court of law when the family sues me and if the prosecuting attorney feels they have a case against me for using unnecessary deadly force. If I kill someone I have to prove it was the only resort.
@Doublekix2112 All I'm saying is that I have to determine in a split second if DRAWING MY WEAPON is necessary to defend myself. if i pull my gun im shooting, never use a weapon as a threat
i feel the 1911 is the best cuz i have used it the most but any weapon i can get my hands on is best for self defense cuz its the one i got anything is better than nothing heck i would take a 22. over nothing
I feel any gun you can carry and control is a good one. Now the one factor I would consider is reliability if it time to use it it must work. But don't forget training, the best weapon you have is the one between your ears.
@WyomingJoshuaAK47 I agree, but its funny. One of my friends and I held the glock 17, then a XDm 9mm. He really didnt like the feel of the glock, but i loved it and didnt like the XDm, weird how much peoples tastes can differ huh? Both are great designs, but glock is for me lol
Just bought a Rock Island Armory 1911 2 tone in .45. ill be picking it up later this month. but im thinkin a 1911 or glock 23. thunmbs up for 1911s!!!
Full size 9mm with self defense load. Less recoil on the second and third shot. Laser. Flash light on other hand. You don't want to point flashlight on something you may not want to shoot (like your kids). Glock 17. I personally use the Beretta M9A1.
It depends what I wear I go full size smith wesson MP all winter and just bought a beretta storm sub for the summer home defense I have a ruger redhawk
The one that you can shoot quickly and accurately. Question: if you have to restrict your magazine size to 10 (such as in Canada), do you use a bigger round? Maybe switch to revolver for even larger cartridge even though less rounds?
Really the only feature that I say a defense handgun would NEED is a rail for mounting a light. Target identification is KEY and a weapon mounted light is the best way to do that without compromising your shooting grip. My Ruger SR9 is slim enough to conceal carry, has a rail for mounting a light as a nightstand gun, and wasn't so expensive that I couldn't save up for it.
Best gun is the one that goes boom when i want it to .Best gun is the one that shoots. It isnt the gun that kills you it is the bullet!!!!!! I myself carry a Tarus PT945 and a XD .40 but if i was short on cash I WOULD carry anything LOL.
i don't have a favorite right now. different scenario for different self defense gun. night time or at home would like to have one with a light/laser to make sure I do not mistake on identifing who the person is, could be family member who I thought was the so called robber. summer time I would like to carry something small in my pocket as I would most likely be wearing shorts/tanktop. winter time I could get away with carring something larger under my coat. different strokes for diffent folks.
The best one to use is the one that is Most Reliable. You should already be comfortable with it, but if it doesn't go bang when the trigger is pulled, then it isn't worth much. This is a combination of gun and ammunition. The ammo you use should have a proven track record with your gun. Practice, practice, practice.
The best gun to use is the one that you shoot best with, the one that you are most comfortable with.
For me, I prefer the 1911 platform. I shoot best with it and I prefer the trigger on it over everything but a well-tuned single action pull on a revolver. The capacity could be better, but 9 rounds of .45 isn't something to sneeze at. And when SHTF I have another 8 rounds on tap when I need it.
i agree with you 110% there is know one handgun that is best for self defense. The best handgun is the one you can afford to buy as well as practice with. A person with a Hi point and practices with it in my mind is better than the person who has an ed brown custom and doesn't do anything with it. So with that said my self defense gun is a Glock 23 with night sights, 3.5 pound trigger kit, tlr 1, alot of mags for it. The reason is it fit my hand the best and it is also what i can shoot the best.
Sig P-229 .40S&W. Bet my life on it! The only problem is in the hot summer months it is hard to carry and keep it hidden from the public so you might have to go with something tiny for those 3 months like a Ruger LC9 or a Seecamp or j frame
home.....shotgun.......ccw self defense if 1911's had no safety switch offs then yea it would be #1 but revolvers glocks,xd's cant go wrong....

BlackwolfW87 2 months ago
hi point because it is most accessible to your everyday citizen here and now. anybody at any point in time has about 130 bucks laying around somewhere, and for 150 dollars you have a gun and enough ammo (except ammo to practice with). lifetime warranty and good customer service. only downside is hipoints jam when you limp wrist it being a blowback action
ARTONY92 2 months ago
@ARTONY92 i normally would say save up and get something better than a hi point but if it's your only option it's definitely better than nothing and to be honest, all that really matters is that it works. i'd take it over a slingshot any day.

any type of hand gun is good for self defense as long as you can hit what your shooting at and stop your target even if it take the whole magazine to do so
budweiser42066441 2 months ago
Best home defence handgun to be less vague. You question is not specific enough to answer.
45acp revolver. Enough power to stop anyone but slow enough round to not penetrate a lot
of walls. Anyone in my family can handle it without practice. Subsonic rounds won't destroy
your eardrums with sound in a small room. Pistol is quick to reload with moon clips . But its too bulky for anyone but a fat man to conceal in the summer. If you can't take out an intruder with 6
rounds your probably dead.
semperfi1000 2 months ago
@semperfi1000 6 rounds goes damn quick under stress, and when your adrenalin is jacked up dont be supprised if most of your rounds miss the target that just so happens to be moving and probably trying to shoot you as well
HunterKiller308 2 months ago
@HunterKiller308 Here in Maryland, I had better be shooting from inside my house so
6 rounds in a room or hall is a lot. Statistics say that within the house its almost always
less than 6. The wife has her revolver also. Under stress a revolver is more reliable than
a semi auto for those of us who can't use the range every month. Love my Glocks and 1911
but the revolvers are first string and 45 is the perfect compromise.

1)Have a gun
2)Have a gun that works
3)Have a gun you can shoot
Everything else is pretty much icing on the cake. However, my main caveat is to have a gun with more rounds... rather than less. Everyone misses, especially with a handgun, especially when their life is in danger... its better to have more rounds (a.k.a. chances to hit) before you have to reload.
And, that pretty much disqualifies most revolvers and subcompacts. But, see point #1. It is better than nothing.

@34601k Yeah CA is in the U.S. and the law is still "stupid". Whats your opinion on the video?
MaximusRightAngle 2 months ago
@MaximusRightAngle The 21 for handgun law isn't stupid. I'm for concealed carry and the fundamental right to self defense wherever, whenever but I don't want most college students bringing firearms to campus. As for the video I would go with the M1911 but I'm honestly a snubby/glock guy myself.
34601k 2 months ago
@34601k unfortunately too many shootings happen on college and high school campuses, i wouldn't mind a few students to legally carry to be honest with you
trvmcintosh 2 months ago
@trvmcintosh high school?? you can't be 21 and in high school. But in terms of college, most students are pretty careless like what if they decide to get drunk at a party. In cases of college having a vigilant police force is best since its a limited area. Like my campus has 22 full time officers to patrol 175 acres. So far we've had no violent crime for the last 5 on campus and we are on the edge of East Los Angeles.

Txdartaholic 2 months ago
Impossible to say. What is right for one person might not be right for another and it could depend on circumstances that could restrict what you could have or use in a particular situation. Only thing you could really answer with is a gun that works. What ever it is it should go BANG when you pull the trigger and you should be proficient with how to operate it.

Doublekix2112 2 months ago
@Doublekix2112 Unless you're doing a drive by, I don't see why a citizen lawfully defending themselves won't get their firearm back. Guns were designed to kill people primarily. As my understanding is, guns are designed to kill people primarily, not injure them. I think if you're carrying to a gun to injure them, then you're carrying the wrong piece. A tazer or bean bag shotgun were designed to injure to people.
esh325 2 months ago
@esh325 Because in the real world, the law isn't always on the side of who is right, it's what the attorneys can prove. And the burden of proof falls on the victim who had to use deadly force to defend himself. You defended your life, then you have to defend your actions. "In theory" and "the real world" are very different when it comes to killing someone, justified self defense or not. And I am carrying the exact piece I want. Guns are designed as a tool to be used how one sees fit.

HunterKiller308 2 months ago
@HunterKiller308 Well, I have my own views and opinions on the subject. And I'm not wrong. Neither are you. Your views and opinions just don't happen to perfectly line up with mine on this. We're all on the same side here it would appear. Let's not forget that. Personally I don't want to be dead OR in prison due to defending myself, so I approach the situation with what I think is a well-rounded approach. It works for me.
Doublekix2112 2 months ago
@Doublekix2112 If they really have reason to believe you're a dangerous person that shouldn't get their firearm back, then you would have a criminal record and you wouldn't be able to lawfully buy another Bersa. Or perhaps they would get a warrant to confiscate all your firearms. They aren't stupid. I'm not an expert on the law, but that's just my understanding of it.
esh325 2 months ago
@esh325 No they aren't stupid, but they do have an agenda. The way the laws should work has no bearing on how they do work. We're talking about taking the life of another human being, even if it is justified self defense. You'll have to defend your actions against those who want to win the case as much as you do. Everything you have ever said or written will be brought into court to make you look like a nut job gun freak,..in front of 12 people not smart enough to get out of jury duty.
Doublekix2112 2 months ago
@Doublekix2112 Guns are primarily designed to kill people. It's hard to really question that. "used how one sees fit" really put things up in the air.
esh325 2 months ago
@esh325 Again, in my opinion, a CCW permit is not a license to kill someone. It simply gives you another tool with which to defend yourself. If by simply drawing my weapon in self defense I can deter an attacker, then I don't need to shoot him. A firearm "used as how one sees fit" doesn't put anything up in the air. It's a tool for a purpose: Self defense. But just because I have a gun doesn't mean I have to use it to kill someone. If I pull it and aim and he runs off, then we're done.
Doublekix2112 2 months ago
@Doublekix2112 if you pull a gun or knife or any weapon on someone and you are not fully prepared to use it without hesitation you are going to get fucked up
FYI
HunterKiller308 2 months ago
@HunterKiller308 I absolutely agree. I would never pull my weapon in self defense unless i was prepared to use deadly force. All I'm saying is that I have to determine in a split second if pulling the trigger is necessary to defend myself. If I do, I'm going to have to prove it in a court of law when the family sues me and if the prosecuting attorney feels they have a case against me for using unnecessary deadly force. If I kill someone I have to prove it was the only resort.
Doublekix2112 2 months ago

Really the only feature that I say a defense handgun would NEED is a rail for mounting a light. Target identification is KEY and a weapon mounted light is the best way to do that without compromising your shooting grip. My Ruger SR9 is slim enough to conceal carry, has a rail for mounting a light as a nightstand gun, and wasn't so expensive that I couldn't save up for it.

Smith and wesson M&P 9mm with a good hollow point round...Or Glock 22 in 40 s&w with a good hollow point round..

i agree with you 110% there is know one handgun that is best for self defense.

I like your s&w up there nothing wrong with the other two but the s&w has a bigger mag cap and illuminator device

Sig P-229 .40S&W. Bet my life on it! The only problem is in the hot summer months it is hard to carry and keep it hidden from the public so you might have to go with something tiny for those 3 months like a Ruger LC9 or a Seecamp or j frame

The best handgun is the one you have on your person when you need it the most.

Home defense: Sig P226 in 9mm with: 3 dot night sights, Streamlight TLR1 and 18rnd MacGar Mags
Secondary: Glock 17 Gen. 4 with: 3 dot night sights, ext. slide catch, 4.5lb trigger (instead 5.5lb), 19rnd mags, Blackhawk weapon light and Blackhawk Serpa holster.
Of course just my opinion.
