I had a Friend who was on FH back in 91 or 92, He said the best part were the Petrol Carts, Great prizes although he didn't win the Power Prize, Got the Tag but got the Question wrong, Damn was he pissed off, Bet it still haunts Him to this Day, I'd love to find that Episode.
Note the "TX: TBA" on the VT clock; right up until the last minute they were unsure whether it was a good idea to unleash Pat's luxurious mane on the British public when the 80s were just about over.
This was great TV and I watched probably most of them while the show was running, but I bet nothing like this will go on TV ever again because of stupid political correctness, health and safety, etc. Pat Sharp's hair back then was brilliant.
they don't make programs like this anymore, my son would love it... if he was not to busy playing call of duty... all we had was mario and pats fun house... oh innocent times
@jingtroc23 my niece who's 4 loves watching FunHouse despite not being born when it first aired, she's like what happens in this game what happens in that game bless

It's quite amazing how similar this show stayed for 11 years - although there were many cosmetic changes (not least the fashions), the music, sound effects, concept, presenters, even what Gary King says over the titles etc was pretty identical all the way through. Shows how good a format it was.
Thanks for uploading this, especially as it's from a broadcast master, complete with VT clock! I'd imagine that this was difficult to get hold of, let alone convert to a modern format...
@DJgaZman It is from a *broadcast* quality tape (presumably 1" Type-C videotape as it's from the late 80s), so it's no surprise that it's in high quality.
I expect that the original flash video of this was ripped from a DVD copy of the tape - or a DVD copy of a D3 or DigiBeta coy of the original.
I loved (still do actually!) this show so much when I was a kid! The prizes make me laugh now though, they'll have a helicopter ride and a trip to Venice then an alarm clock or a fuzzy toy :D brilliant 90's TV, thank you uploader!
I reckon the red boy was told where it was, bit strange otherwise
@ZZZapJohnnyII I can not thank you enough for putting this up, this is the time I have ever seen this episode as I was only 7months old when it started so thank you so much again
@jaradoref The system of letting the viewer, but nobody in the studio, know where the power prize is located has the potential for cheating, as the producers can just set off the cockerel sound effect at any stage they like then use post production to edit in the shot of its location. It creates the effect to the viewer that the location was predetermined when in fact it might not have been.
@97channel You could possibly be right with that, the camera does cut pretty quickly. However, in the later series, you can see the contestants in the aerial shot of the studio.
@97channel My guess is probably the staff decides where the power prize is prior to either the fun house or before they start taping the episode. game shows can sometimes tape several episodes in the same day so the same location might be used more than once that season.
@kaw203 This is as high as the quality gets i'm afraid. With it being from the 80's it won't be good quality anyway. Only real suggestion is changing the youtube quality on the video changing it to 480p.
That version of the Fun House is definitely the best one :)
I'm interested in engineering, so I'm pondering over two things:
1) How long and difficult was it to design, make and build the Fun House itself?
2) What makes those car wash brush things at the front move? I suspect they use something pneumatic, as I could hear them hissing with air as they moved in another FH run.
I know no-one'll know the answer, but you have to admit, the FH was an amazing feat of engineering!!!

HorrorQueen7 8 months ago
Was the red boy actually told where the power prize was? With 10 seconds left, he raced to that tag, passing other tags en route to go for it.
jaradoref 9 months ago
@jaradoref Seeing as it was series 1, I would imagine he did get told so that they could boost the number of applicants for the next series.
ZZZapJohnnyII 9 months ago
@ZZZapJohnnyII But the kids can't apply to go on the show. STV visits schools and holds audition processes there.

@jaradoref Yes but the children would have said if they wanted to audition or not for the show, so in a sense they applied.

@AidanLunn Oh, absolutely; the STV set designers and engineers surpassed themselves with every incarnation of the Fun House.
The one in this episode and all the early series is pretty similar to the one in the original US version of the show.
