@ug501 Do you know what this particular piece is called by any chance? (and is it by Michael Nyman?) I'm searching for it because I want to purchase it, but I'm just not sure what to search for. Thanks! :)
If you feel you can't and should not accept the cards you were given, then just rebel against the situation and prove you're worth so much better than this.
Every and each of us should be a Vincent Freeman : victorious and free, working and trying harder each day to break beyond ou limits until we reach the place we feel ours.
I think most people didn't really understand what this movie is about. Eugenics is but a setting to the drama. This movie is all about will and its power. Life is a constant struggle, and Gattaca teaches you to stand up and fight each time you are confronted to a situation that seems unfair to you. It teachs you to dream high and urges you to never give up the fight even when the whole world seems to be against you.
This movie is the main source of inspiration of my whole life. Each time I feel lost, defeated or discouraged, the only thing I have to do to regain my strenghts and courage is to watch it again, listen to this so harrowing music, and I am up on my feet again.
Filmmusik ist so etwas wie der Zucker auf der Torte, so etwas wie das Salz auf der Haut bei der körperlichen Liebe. Filmmusik fängt da an, wo Sprache und Bilder aufhören. Filmmusik ist mein Leben.
this masperpiace is something that cannot be reproduced or remade. Works like this one formed our morale nad borms. This world needs more beauty and honesty. As we continue rollin down the mountain - less and less remains
Gattaca and Twelve Monkeys are two greatly underrated sci-fi films from tne 1990's. They are both thought provoking and heart felt and two of my favorite films ever. I could watch them over and over again.
you might not like Gore Vidal's politics - I frankly can't stand them - since I am pretty libertarian. However, despite that, I think he's an AWESOME writer...he can write circles around some of these en vogue authors. I am glad he was in this movie - you wouldn't expect a pretty famous novelist to be in a film of this nature.
Considering the music it is great. The moment this theme was playing I thought: "You have to get this theme". This music expresses the emotions, expectations, dreams, aims just perfectly.
It shows the desire and longing to reach this aim in a wonderful manner.
Despite the music, I was surprised by this movie.
When I read the blurb I expected a distopic film, which shows a criticism of the shown society and indirectly the current society
"Limb lengthening is a surgical technique that can be done to treat medical conditions or make someone taller for cosmetic reasons. The thighbones are sawed apart and an implant is attached in the break to add length to the bone."
Thank you so much. My sister and I were wondering the same thing. This movie was brilliant. The saddest part is the ending though when Jude Law kills himself. Other than that I LOVED it. I bought it on iTunes before i even saw it and i just knew i was going to luv it. As do i love all Sci-Fi films with entertainment and a good story line. Plus, the music was excellent! thanks for the post.
@corn105 Well the way I phrased it, it sounded harsh and mean. Well he committed suicide by locking himself into an inferno chamber. It was quite sad, and on the second time I watched it it made me cry :( This movie is quite epic and every time I see it, it reminds me of something new. Love this movie once again.
II watched the film GATTACA again the other night. I hadn't seen that film since it came out so was still quite young back then but I must admit I like it more now. I thin its one of those underrated films and score is really nice.
You have done a unique edit which as zero mentions fits the music and images so well. I want to see the film now as it intrigues me so much. A masterclass.
"photography is beautiful. Most colours are cold and neutral tones as to emphasise the asceptic nature of this future, while the scenes shot outside are most often bathed in a soft golden evening sunlight. The introduction sequence is very well thought of and ingeniously filmed. The direction and the acting are truly impressive. The intricate play on looks, silences and carefully chosen words gives to this film an unusual subtle and delicate touch, which confers upon it a specific charm."
Your slick elegant editing really compliments the music and the style of the film. It's one of the best SF films made. Love the fade out transitions in the beginning of your clip, goes beautiful with the sentiments of longing for something unreachable in Nyman' s music. Kudos again!

But it was clearly different.
Of course, the world shown there is not very good, it somehow goes back to the antique where fate destined the way of life of a human.
But it wasn't like that. The wron society was always present, but it wasn't critisised. It was accepted and taken.
First I was dissapointed of that. But, I understood that the quality fo this movie isn't defined by that.
Much more important is the fact, that everyone, how impossible it may seem, can reach their dreams
NailimixamSamaro 1 year ago
So all in all:
The film perfectly shows, the things human beeings are able to.
That they are not destined and enslaved by fate, but that they always can fight and succeed over it.
The movie leaves a incredibly good and satisfied feeling.
I just had to smile the whole last minutes, when the doctor talked to Vincent, and he finally 'fullfilled' and succeeded his life.
And Jerome too.
He committed suicide, that's right, but he finally could accept his "fail" and so came to terms with himself.
