Do you buy the silver in larger sheets and then cut it yourself or do you buy it in strips? If in sheets, what sort of saw do you use to trim it down?
@SandraFowler I buy the silver the exact size I need it, cutting large sheets down to size needs a band saw which I dont have a need for when I can buy it any size required.
Hi, thank you for sharing you talent. Can you tell me where I can purchase the mandrel you used to bend and shape the bangle. I have not seen one like that before. Thank you, Susan
Hey nice vids matey, clear and concise with good soundtracks, your obviousley a very skilled craftsman and very generous to share your secrets and skills, Iam even considering Having a gold ring done by you. Thanks
Thanks for the comments Graham, I am planning to do some more hammered style videos soon and we have made hammered rings in gold if thats what you are thinking of, cheers Mark
Great video! Keep on giving us these ideas as some of us are beginners. I really want to be able to make some bangles that look almost as good as yours. It will take quite a few mistakes though lol!!!!!
@evealexsis Thanks for the comment I intend to do more videos I am really enjoying the response from people and am happy to help I would love someone to copy what I have done and send me pictures of their attempt... give it a go its not that bad a hammer and a dremil drill will give you a similar finish.. :-}
Great Tutorial! If I want to add cabochon settings to the bangle, should I solder the bezel to the cuff before or after shaping the cuff? Many thanks again for your tutorial!
Hi, I would shape the cuff and give it an initial polish first then solder your settings and give it another good polish then set your cabochons and give a final polish.. good luck thanks for the comment.. Mark
I have never worked with .999 silver but it would be slightly easier to manipulate into shapes but also easier to bend once it is in the shape you want with it being softer and purer, so it really depends on how hard you want the finished piece to be, hope that helps? Mark
Hi Joanna, the silver is 2mm thick and the hand tool is similar to a dremel with a wire scratch brush attachment it gives a nice quick even finish similar to a brushed stainless look, cheers Mark
That bangle was designed for someone so we measured the wrist first, a piece of string will do, somewhere about 180mm by 40mm wide, you need to use 2mm sheet silver any thicker and it gets hard to shape after its been hammered without annealing again, good luck, Mark
Yeah we did fast forward but in real time it took 20 minutes from start to finish... I want my videos to be a bit different to all the others I have seen so we have tried to make them a bit quirky and funny....
@overdum: 1. get a piece of metal or PVC plumbing pipe, about 2-1/2" diameter - Home Depot or your local hardware store. Also, if you don't know a place or can't find a place online (like EBAY!) to get a piece of sheet silver, get a piece of sheet COPPER. If you go to a hardware store, they might even cut it for you.
Women's bracelet: 6" long by whatever width you want, 1-1/2 to 3 inches.
Heyup designer monkey... strips of silver can be purchased from bullion dealers easy enough but you need an account and they want you to order more than just one strip....you could do the same thing with copper if that is easier for you to get..? funny you should call yourself designer monkey the town I live in is famous for being monkeyhangers.. take it easy :)
"in under 3min" lol. very cool piece though

This is fabulous. Remember to wash the silver between the two polishing compounds though!

Is it better to use or easier to work with .999 fine silver than .925 sterling silver or does it make a difference?

@overdum: 1. get a piece of metal or PVC plumbing pipe, about 2-1/2" diameter - Home Depot or your local hardware store.
2. get a hammer (most people own one). 3. get a metal file Depot and/or get a Dremel there, or at Michaels, JoAnns, Target or most anyplace else.

PS - ask for 12 or 14 gauge silver or copper or search for that on Ebay.
