has anyone ever experimented with creating artificial thermals, by using black material over a wide surface area on a sunny day?
I was on this site where these Australian hang-glider pilots apparently had massive success, and were able to fly quite high off it! Sounded interesting, because you could probably go cross-country with a series of them on a clear day (if it worked!!).
A guy known round here as 'Mad Farmer' experimented with oil drums full of burning fuel and 10' diameter propellers mounted on jacked up car drive wheels and an artificial ridge consisting of a polythene slope. He claimed some success.
that bleeping noise, and I'm probably totally wrong, but is it telling you when you have lift from that hill?? thniking of taking up the sport myself. flying costs so much, but a hanglider - I guess its as easy as learning to fly, then finding a good place to go, and we have loads here in hampshire. how much does it cost for the equipment? nice vid by the way!
what is the "flare" means in hang gliding?

weak cycle?? no just slope lift.

Not enough wind for slope lift; you get wave rotor influence here a lot of the time that causes the lack of slope lift even with a moderate wind.

Learn to fly with a BHPA approved school ( see their website) and they will help you buy a second hand glider when you've qualified. Have Fun!

Fly On The Wall; downwind landing up the slope of the hill. Not painful IF you time the flare well, and have the wings level!
