@TreesAreHardcore the film was shot with Kodak Super8 film sent to the lab for processing and then hand cut and spliced then transfered to a dvd and then loaded to YT!
This is outstanding work! The animation, the soundtrack, in fact the whole way this is put together and presented is just excellent. I love the atmosphere of this amazing film. I`m looking forward to catching up with the rest of your work.
@Zeanu well after see the work of The Brothers Quay ,someone gave me a dvd of their work about 10 years ago ,I'm trained as a painter in the fine arts but thought I'd like try this medium . I fine it very satisfying
On my youtube channel i've just uploaded Part One of Six short film/ experimental film series from UK we're making.. would love to have some feedback we're new to this and are inspired from videos such as these :D good luck also with other videos you creat keep up the good work!! x
Odd...creepy...but totally awesome. Hugely compelling. It feels very heavily influenced by a lot of the Soviet stop-motion animation. I really enjoyed it...even though it freaked me out a bit!
@pncarcone yes the Soviet animation greats, The Quays and many many great artist and photographers such as Odd Nerdrum, Joyce Tennenson and Joel Peter Witkin just to name a few. Thanks for taking time to view my film and the next one is in the works.
Odd...creepy...but totally awesome. Hugely compelling. It feels very heavily influenced my a lot of the Soviet stop-motion animation. I really enjoyed it...even though it freaked me out a bit!
vary cool check out my Chanel I'm in the works of putting together some videos but the stuff I have up you might want to take a look and add me so you can see the works to come!
huh, its like everything that isnt supose to be alive is and the one thing that should be alive (the bird) isnt, is that why hes sad or am i going over board???
@JamieDean i think the video goes better whith some kind of sad music dont you think?, the message of the video its more like sad, the bird dont fly animore, meibe i can show you one or tho songs like that, and sorry if i had a bad nglesh , i speak better spanish or italian
1:55-1:59 I just caught this, so subtle yet, for me, incredible: how was the zoom out done so naturally done while filming in stop motion animation; this piece is and will always be legendary as the filmmaker(s) created an instant classic.
This is so nice. Technology has become available to so many but few have actually something to say and... heart. This is very nice work, the puppet is marvelous. Can I ask you very stupid questions? Did you transfer to digital after super 8, then framegrabbers (software) and did you us gages to keep track of the puppets movements? Any advice for beginners? Thanks!
@PaulinaColombia Hi P, Thank You for viewing and this nice comment !
Yes technology is magical. I had a lab do the digital transfer after the original was viewed on a s8 projector. Then I loaded it into an editing software program, edited it and then transfered it to an AVI film for the internet. No gages were used when filming although this would be a good idea for some animation projects.
Advice! lol each new project brings new challenges so be ready to work long and hard an
also s8 is a great way to study filmmaking, find a good camera and get to know all it can do, with different film types. I worked for years just shooting film, before making this animation.
Hi Jamie, haven't said hello for a long time so hello..lol..this is a beautiful film.totally mesmering..the sountrack is great too...5*+is my feature vid today too x
@JamieDean I miss film..I used to shoot loads of stills on HP5 rated 800iso...loved the grain and the softness...but film is now "commercial death"..shoving 150 pictures on a piece of plastic the size of an after-eight mint is hard to equate with watching 36 frames hanging up in the drying cabinet!
Also its now getting harder to use the "old ways" as paper and film get rare. Whatever happened to Agfa Portriga ..ah long gone!
I keep coming back to this clip, and I'm not quite sure why. Something about it is triggering memories from when I was a small boy, 45 or so years ago.
I personally love this video, the way it was shot, the figures, everything. In a weird way the figurines remind me of my childhood, considering I spent most of it in antique stores or watching black and white films. The only way that this could be improved is to elaborate and lengthen it. I have a feeling that it could just go so much deeper into the emotions expressed here.
*side note: The lead figure looks like Rozz Williams.
the style has potential but this particular offering doesn't seem to go anywhere - except at the end when the white harlequin figure opens the cage and the bird doesn't fly out - still, that's kind of a simplistic downer outcome - there's no pathos in a creature that won't seek freedom when offered, unless there's some suggested or implied backstory about why it won't - observe a performance of Petrouchka and try again, maybe
@JamieDean Thanks for the time JD. Then I assume the very fine music score might have to do with Mr. Van Zyl.I had the chance of playing his music on chilean radio here 15 years ago. Keep up the good work that feed many people's spirit.
