  • Amazing work. I'm SO glad I found this! This is art in its greatest form!

  • Beautiful work!!!! Will there be more in the future?

  • Odd...creepy...but totally awesome. Hugely compelling. It feels very heavily influenced by a lot of the Soviet stop-motion animation. I really enjoyed it...even though it freaked me out a bit!

  • @pncarcone yes the Soviet animation greats, The Quays and many many great artist and photographers such as Odd Nerdrum, Joyce Tennenson and Joel Peter Witkin just to name a few. Thanks for taking time to view my film and the next one is in the works.

  • huh, its like everything that isnt supose to be alive is and the one thing that should be alive (the bird) isnt, is that why hes sad or am i going over board???

  • "flyingflotilla-stop motion" is an awesome video like this one.

  • wtf was that supposed to be about

  • Cinema of patient eye/ undulate mystique of sound/ crunch of fright is bright/ lurk through mask of dark/ your roaming eye piques my why!

  • That was great thanks.

  • awesome and sad

  • Fantastic- creepy, strange, strong atmosphere. Quayesque but still deeply original.

  • The soundtrack has changed??

  • interesting music]

    Great!

  • Nice work, what camera did you use?

  • Very unique and surreal. I like the music, the Ghosts album is very surreal as well. Nice work.

  • @JamieDean i think the video goes better whith some kind of sad music dont you think?, the message of the video its more like sad, the bird dont fly animore, meibe i can show you one or tho songs like that, and sorry if i had a bad nglesh , i speak better spanish or italian

  • Delicate. Dream-making. Thank you.

  • Very well done. I loved every second.

  • @LegendUnderhill Thank You!

  • Quite charming

  • Very beautiful. Poetic, subtle. And strong. Congratulations Jamie Dean.

    Where are you from?

    And the music?

  • 1:55-1:59 I just caught this, so subtle yet, for me, incredible: how was the zoom out done so naturally done while filming in stop motion animation; this piece is and will always be legendary as the filmmaker(s) created an instant classic.

  • @KojiRecords

Thanks! KR , many many takes on that zoom out to get it, it helps to have a good camera lens zoom also. Nice channel yourself!

  • This is so nice. Technology has become available to so many but few have actually something to say and... heart. This is very nice work, the puppet is marvelous. Can I ask you very stupid questions? Did you transfer to digital after super 8, then framegrabbers (software) and did you us gages to keep track of the puppets movements? Any advice for beginners? Thanks!

  • @PaulinaColombia Hi P, Thank You for viewing and this nice comment !

Yes technology is magical. I had a lab do the digital transfer after the original was viewed on a s8 projector. Then I loaded it into an editing software program, edited it and then transfered it to an AVI film for the internet. No gages were used when filming although this would be a good idea for some animation projects.

Advice! lol each new project brings new challenges so be ready to work long and hard an

  • @PaulinaColombia

also s8 is a great way to study filmmaking, find a good camera and get to know all it can do, with different film types. I worked for years just shooting film, before making this animation.

  • A very dark version of surrealism. I loved it. Thank you for posting this video.

  • this reminds me a lot of jan svankmajer, i loved it :)

  • Lovely, very melancholy and magical. I love that it's not frenetic.

  • @eaglecrowowl Thank You !

  • stunning

  • muy bueno!

  • nice work !!!!

  • Hi Jamie, haven't said hello for a long time so hello..lol..this is a beautiful film.totally mesmering..the sountrack is great too...5*+is my feature vid today too x

  • this is really good :)

  • That is so expressionistic!

  • Carl Dreyer would be proud..great work.

  • Thanks, I'm a fan of Dreyer also!

  • @JamieDean I miss film..I used to shoot loads of stills on HP5 rated 800iso...loved the grain and the softness...but film is now "commercial death"..shoving 150 pictures on a piece of plastic the size of an after-eight mint is hard to equate with watching 36 frames hanging up in the drying cabinet!

Also its now getting harder to use the "old ways" as paper and film get rare. Whatever happened to Agfa Portriga ..ah long gone!

  • Love the animation ! You might want to check out billytwostroke s profile film called Victor Hugo.

    My older brother!

  • Einfach wunderbar - wie aus einer fernen Welt, die in einem steckt!

  • Danke Schon!

  • Oh this is so beautiful!

  • thanks!

  • You should enter this in every short film venue you can find. Thanks for sharing.

  • that one guy looks like Marlyn Manson 0.o Good film, I would never be able to do something that involved this much time, patience, and effort.

  • Thanks to everyone for taking time to view this film and all the nice comments!

  • really good job!!

  • Love the look of the film.

  • This is Beautiful. I adore black and B/W stock. I am looking for camera at the moment. I haven't shot anything in super 8 since Uni. Great Film Dude.

  • Thanks " Dude" !

  • very interesting, it was very beautiful. Odd in a most delectable way~

  • thanks!

  • Very surreal! A very nice piece :)

  • thanks!

  • Completely beautiful. I give you a resounding round of applause.

  • thank you!

  • Not a problem!

By the way when I posted that it was like 2 or 3 AM, so sorry my writing wasn't at it's best lol.

  • I keep coming back to this clip, and I'm not quite sure why. Something about it is triggering memories from when I was a small boy, 45 or so years ago.

    Good job.

  • I personally love this video, the way it was shot, the figures, everything. In a weird way the figurines remind me of my childhood, considering I spent most of it in antique stores or watching black and white films. The only way that this could be improved is to elaborate and lengthen it. I have a feeling that it could just go so much deeper into the emotions expressed here.

*side note: The lead figure looks like Rozz Williams.

  • Thank you!

  • Quite a lovely piece. Thank you.

  • Thanks!

  • the style has potential but this particular offering doesn't seem to go anywhere - except at the end when the white harlequin figure opens the cage and the bird doesn't fly out - still, that's kind of a simplistic downer outcome - there's no pathos in a creature that won't seek freedom when offered, unless there's some suggested or implied backstory about why it won't - observe a performance of Petrouchka and try again, maybe

  • Chuck Van Zyl the musician ? !

  • Fine Art Photographer / musician!!

  • @JamieDean Thanks for the time JD. Then I assume the very fine music score might have to do with Mr. Van Zyl.I had the chance of playing his music on chilean radio here 15 years ago. Keep up the good work that feed many people's spirit.

  • gr8 video with good music great animation btw this is your wifes student

  • very, very nice, i like that kind of style

  • Hans Bellmer would be proud. Bravo!

  • like this stuff in this video everything seemed so primitive still enjoyed watching

  • WOW!!!

That was a beautiful little film! Totally rad, I really like that kind of stuff.

How long did it take to make that?

  • I felt a strange serenity watching this..

  • Excellent Gothic's surrealistic images!
