  • It will die!

  • how fast can it go?

  • cool

  • does anyone have any tips on making a tank?

i especially need help on the treads, and i figure that someone who can make an engine without motors could give some good tips!

  • look at rz22gs tank tread tutorial

  • look at defcon01's tutorials, he has one on treads, tank base, and hydraulics.

  • wen i get this game (tommoro hopefuly) wen i get used to it im gunna try n make a big radial engine (5 cylinders maybe more)

  • I wanted to make a radial engine, but the layers severely limit the number of cylinders. With 3 main layers and 4 intermediate layers, you're limited to 4 cylinders on a radial layout, and that's using a 3-piece crank that utilizes all of the main layers. It's hard to explain, but when you get the game you'll understand. More than one rod on a single intermediate layer will prevent the motor from turning, as the rods will collide with one another.

  • oh yea i get it the conrods will hit. oh well. i cant make anything anyway cos u hav to complete the game first dont u? it dont let me do much when i try ro create a level

  • right and do all the tutuorials they give you most of the stuff as well

  • You do realise how much better this game could have been if it was in 3D (this one is not 3D, it is 2D with multiple layers). But then, the creator mode wouldn't have been that accessible.

  • @vnhcoltridge: the level editor is the whole point of the game along with the fact that it is so fun to play all the levels!!!

  • I tried making a piston engine (vertical piston) and I haven't succeeded! I can't seem to be able to build a "gearbox" to connect the wheels to the piston. I tried using a train-wheels design but glitches occured everytime. Any advice would be useful. By the way, your boxer type seems a lot more fiable and reliable! I will try the next days to make that piston work and hopefully build a car engine imitation (4 cylinders at least) + wheels. Cheers.

  • Honestly it's all about timing the explosions correctly and building the engine as symmetrically as possible. Use the grid to build your pistons and rods, use the straight-on view when placing bolts to ensure they're as centered as possible if you can't snap them to the grid, and perhaps most of all, make the engine assembly as light-weight as possible while retaining material that doesn't disintegrate with explosives. The thinner your rotating assembly, the more easily it will spin.

  • You know, I will probably come up with something better than a combustion engine. It is too complicated to build with improper tools.

But for now I will finish my hot-rod then start thinking of a self propelled vehicle!

  • Good luck! Send me a comment or message if you get any sort of alternative self-propelled vehicle working.

  • how about use a grab switch to activate the explosions then you on your way

  • nice light show lolz

  • I demand TUTORIAL :P

  • me too all replay on this if you whant tut

  • DUde your awesome .)

  • man i gotta get this game

  • a little work on design and that thing would be BADASS!!!!!

  • it is

  • Absolutely brilliant mate! Any chance you could make this shareable so people could use it in their levels?

  • wow really cool

  • really cool but its also a very old idea

  • how do u do that

  • can you pleaaaasee make a tutorial on how to do this??

  • that is awesome mate. how is the primary cog connected to the base wheel?

  • There's a smaller cog glued to the rear wheel which meshes with the other two. :)

  • do those explosions actually push the pistons back because if they do thats a great idea well done

  • cool, really cool :D

  • COOL!!! when i get my ps3 and this game, i'm gonna make a 'Little Big Lab'. i already have some designs for it!!!i'm gonna make a train with one of these engines too!!

  • that was actually a pretty unique design. good job.

  • lol its still going even when you get off the car

  • yah if ya used it in a level you would probably have to make a stopper or something

  • nice job!!

  • This is the perfect engine for when I forget where the motor bolts are :P

But this is actually some nice work.

  • Glubags, expect an invite from a KindVapour

    mad props bro!!

  • I'm ADDING YOU RIGHT NOW~!!!!!

  • So am I freaking gonna do!! :D haha..

  • if i had the game ...let alone a ps3... i could SO utilize them engines ppl be making..just w8 one day

btw...can you even copy stuff from other ppl?

  • oh yeah and whats the level name so i can heart it

  • It's called Boxer Powered Car. Search "glubags" and you should be able to find it. The energy comes from explosives that are spawned with a magnetic switch already attached. They spawn within range of the corresponding magnetic key, so they explode instantly.

  • Where did you find, or how did you create glass cogs. The cogs that I acquired from the first Indian level in the game are having trouble interlocking. They either slip, or jam.

Please help... How do you make/acquire proper gears that actually work? Thank you...

  • Go to the littlebigworkshop website and use the "find player" feature in the upper right corner to search for Glubags. I've got a gears tutorial there with blueprints and instructions in the author notes.

  • cool, how is it get, the energy, it looks like a spark engine but surely that wont work without a spark plug and some fuel, how did you do it? btw loving the piston idea do you take product design or something idk

  • heyyy omg i stubled upon ur thing by luck its pretty sick you should check out my engines

its name is "internal combustion piston engine test"

  • You should make a "gas" tank of explosives to make it more realistic. That way you will eventually run out of fuel.

  • How comes it dosnt blow itself up!?

  • The materials used aren't vulnerable to damage from explosives.

  • thats awsome lol he he whats ur PSN

  • if u or anyone is uploadingng LBP vids can you make some of my ideas?

The stalker bush: bushed shape car

The burger moblie:...kinda speeks for its self

  • In a way, yes, but they're mostly limited by simulated weight and friction. If I created a better timing system with a more robust ignition, it could theoretically gain speed until it's passing through the "spark" zones so quickly that only one explosive has time to spawn... at which point it would begin to slow again until a cycle or two later, when more explosives have time to spawn and speed it up... and so forth. So ultimately, yes, the speed is limited by how quickly explosives can spawn.

  • But I won't be able to design one efficient enough to reach that limit until I've got a lot more time on my hands.

  • ok I've come up with the idea of having an explosion at each end of the cylinders (which are closed rectangles) so you get double the power =)

  • This one is already getting plenty of power from the large number of explosives spawned per second. The thought of explosives pushing the pistons in the other direction crossed my mind, but I wanted these to work the way an actual engine does, so I ruled that out.

  • fair enough. by the way what shape are the teeth on your gears? they look more square than triangular.

  • They're triangular, the same way I made the others. I think the camera angle and the light reflecting off the teeth are making them appear squared off.

  • can you just explain why you used 2 explosions per cylinder / cycle?

  • A single spawned explosive wasn't powerful enough to propel it, so I set up the emitters to continually spawn boxes that explode immediately as long as the magnetic switch and key are within range of each other.

  • ah so does that mean the car's speed is limited by the respawn lag?

  • pretty much.

  • i think your running the wrong compression on that, alot of misfiring is bad for the crank

    LOL

Dude thats fkn amazing, is it really powering the car or just rolling?

  • Haha, yep, the "crank" gear meshes with an intermediate gear, which meshes with a gear that's glued to the rear wheel. It has to get a rolling start to put the magnetic key switches into place to begin firing.

Everything seems to be a little stiffer after the 1.03 update, but in the beta and in the initial release, the motor produced enough torque to lift the front wheel off the ground on the power strokes. :)

  • wow! this is amazing this game rockz!!

  • you should create a smaller one. good work though. i'm wack at this, i'm still trying to figure out how to make a car go forward and reverse.

  • doesn't look to safe... lol

  • Smart, amazing, awesome, wow.

  • hah neat!

  • I'm so confident about this game, I pre ordered it! This'll be the first E-Rated game I get for the PS3, and I'm POSITIVE it'll be one of the best games I've ever owned.

    My PSN is GenMcBeckson.

  • oh that would be boss to play with! Hope this will be available when the game comes out :]

  • thats pretty intense! i love it!

  • Teach me!!! Joking, but this is on of the coolest things i've seen.

  • you made me shit myself! lol OMG this is completly genuis

  • one of the coolest things iv seen in little big planet i didnt get to play the beta but i preordered it btw is it hard to build cars??????????????

  • timing seems a bit out... check the distributor cap!

  • Haha... that's one of the main issues... the best way I've come up with to regulate the timing is to attach the magnetic key switches to the connecting rods, and then place the corresponding key on a stationary part (in this case, the block) near which the rod passes on its cycle. I wasn't able to come up with a better mechanical way to keep the timing on in the beta. Can't wait for the full game so I can refine this one.

  • Lol, huh?

  • dude thats tight i wish i got the beta but only 9 more days till the launch you kno you should try to make a v8 lmao add me my psn id is Alex109 maby when the game comes out we could team up and build

  • im going to make the first propetual energy device that isnt a car. but it will be similar to this.

oh, and btw, shoop da whoop!!!

  • this design proves what the game is capable of.

  • @vgamedude12 and this is only the first game!

  • now thats intimidating

  • O_O. That was just brilliant! I am searching for that stage next time I am on!

  • That's pretty slick. I can't wait to see what kinds of cool stuff like this everyone can come up with once it's released.

  • You, sir, have inspired me. I plan to build a level with at least one of your engines powering several contraptions. I may even build a robot that runs off of an engine.

I hope you don't mind if I use your idea.

I may even expand on it, like building smaller engines or having ones that have 3 or more cylinders.

  • this is good mechanics 5*

  • really cool!!

  • what? how did you build the engine ... -.-

  • lmao what the hell was that?

  • How can I find this level in the beta? I really want to play that!

  • The level is called Boxer-Powered Car. You could search for it, or send me a friend invite on PSN to see my levels. ID is Glubags.

  • I did a search for your levels in the beta after I saw this. I only made one level and it's just short and kinda easy. I'll have to add your name to my friend list when the full version comes out.

  • wtf, cool

  • They should use this game to teach mechanics... i mean the system you used is almost exactly the same as a train!

  • more like a combustion engine

  • My point is that it is great to teach people mechanics in a realistic (very) and interesting fun way!

  • yeah why not

  • Omg wow that so awesome

  • Wow! Anything really is possible!

  • What is making it move forward? What makes the wheels turn? How are you transferring the explosions to propelling force?

  • the explosions push the bars making the cog that the bars are connected to move thus moving the wheel with other cogs

  • go 1 step further and stack the pistons to create a V8 engine :)

  • that's amazing! :o

  • good job.

  • lol awesomundo

  • very creative, didn't even cross my mind to use the way a real car works to work one in lbp :P

  • calm down, you may post your own video to show us how easy it is.

as for now,i think Glubags did a great job.

  • five stars from me, great work!

  • AMAZING! u created an engine a part fomr pre made 1nes SWEET!

  • oh man!!!!

  • LmaO thats pretty awesome.

  • Man! That was really something. Great talent.
