Both Walnut and Elk Creek are nearly bone dry till mid November each year, so time your fishing to this...and be ready for the elbow-to-elbow Orvis manequin crush. Better fishing can be had on the lake Erie shore.
@flyfisher4life1 - it's a brodin net and the total length measures about 23.5". It's definately a "little" small for landing PA steelhead. I normally use it here in CO for more regular sized trout. Take care!
Yeah, what can you do... The creeks that run into Lake Erie aren't large watersheds. If the fall months are dry in northwest PA, then the all the creeks (Elk, Walnut, 20 and 16 Mile) are very low. These creeks can go from raging torrent to medium flow in just a day or so. I go back for a week to fish with my dad and you get what mother nature hand ya.
nice man. ever try down by the mouth going into the lake? early spring its nuts up there. i went last spring caught 19 for the day. Went up yesterday to check it out damn things all froze over
Nice fish and not to take away from the experience, cos if I lived in the area I would fish that place for sure, but to go there all the way from Colorado?? I would be heading to Vancouver Island or Northern British Columbia first.

I hear ya, but I get to go home, stay w/ my parents and fish w/ my dad... In my mind, you can't beat that even if the fish aren't wild fish.

Aaaaaah, you see I wasn't getting the whole story. Good on ya for gettin together with the old man and wetting a line. I should do the same.

bennydashizwiz 2 years ago
Actually, I live in Colorado now, but my parents live near Erie, so I make a trip back every year to fish the steelies.

Near Erie, PA. It's one of the Pennsylvania Lake Erie tribs.
