Nice to see some realness on this thread for a change. Anyone who wants to know the real history of the golden era, not the fabricated bs peddled by true sepiroth hit me up a message and il send u the link.
Jeff not playing SF competively, and playing at a speed that he wasn't accustomed to does have a baring in this conversation. There is no speed in HSF2AE that plays at the same speed that SF2HF played at in the arcades. So not only can Jeff not rely on muscle memory to get the timing of links and combos out, he was rusty from not playing for 10 years. Meanwhile Daigo played on american sticks. So they're both hanidcaped. And Jeff still took the slight majority.
Infact comparing jeff to daigo is pointless. I will overlook the fact that you guys are overlooking he has The most broken guile in the world vs st ryu, but the fact hes on American sticks kills the defence you have on this debate. ALSO WHAT HAPPEND WHEN WATSON PLAYED DAIGO IN AE AT EVO WITH HFRYU VS CEGUILE? Watson is better than jeff and wasnt retired at that time.
Sad thing is daigo is strong in st, but hes nowhere near japans best. And your comparing schaeffer to him on US sticks lol
@jago397 Being on American Sticks is not comparable as being 10+ years retired, and not having the ability to combo. That's why he went for sure Attacks. CE. Guile? Really? CE. Guile OP? Lol? Only to NG SF2 players no doubt. Don't forget, Jeff doesn't Main Guile at all, during that era, it was Sim/Blanka/Sagat.
Watson today is not the Watson of 1991-1994, get that through your head, you think the Valle today is the Valle of 1996?
@TrueSephiros You forget Scaeffer on srk talking a week before this happen that he dominated this version of sf2 at a get together and he said he was beating watson pretty easy. Watson of course denied. Jeff says alot of shit and more than one person claims his shit false. Hes a great player But he didnt just drop sf cold turkey! He played casuals during his break from tourneys. Your seriously caught up in the past and myth of these great players.
@jago397 Horrible grammar. You just saw, Jeff destroy Daigo. CE Guile does not = broke, but god tier. God tier is not broken. Daigo didn't care that Jeff, used CE Guile. Jeff does not even main, Guile. He just uses him for the fun of it. Watson > Jeff at SF anniversary edition. Jeff > Watson on the old street fighter, where there was no special. Daigo has won a few tournaments in SF2. Japans best? He beats them regularly. Jeff = Godlike. Daigo = Godlike. It was awesome to see these two.
@XxGonixXFAN Your stupid. God tier does not = broken? Well to be honest you could compare ST RYU vs CEGUILE to Ironman Megaman and Ryu vs MSP in Mvc2. Fucking retard! How do you even compare Jeff off this video to daigo? Daigo has done so much in SF and we have absolute proof he is a 2dfg God.
Stop dick riding pls and this is the internet DUDE! I type this shit in 10 secs i dont give a flying fuck about grammar. You choose to believe legend over facts.
@jago397 You're* and obviously I was kidding about that. You didn't get the joke and you immediately flip out xD How do I even compare Jeff to Daigo in this video? Well, Jeff uses a character he never took seriously, he took Daigo out of his game and this is clearly shown in the second round. Jeff puts a halt to the fireball usage and pokes his way to victory. I'm not riding dick, I told you that both players are godlike. They're both great. You're riding Daigo's nuts, man. Moron to the core :|
@XxGonixXFAN Ok sure jeff was great at hf. But anybody who understands high level play and understands how guile plays can win with CEGuile. Same could be said for Daigo. He doesnt main half the people he played BUT on US sticks at that!. The vid shows very basic guile play. His crouch low forward is to good on ce. But what ever this was not tourney this was casual. Thats like me uploading myself beating daigo in casuals on sf4. So im better now?
@jago397 That's like saying, anyone who understands high level Ryu play will win. It's more then that. Mind games. Jeff took Daigo, out of his game. That's a lot to be said since high level players, like Daigo, are very hard to mind attack. Guile's low forward kick was always a good move. I'm surprised, Daigo didn't see it coming half the time since he counters it against Muteki, and he's a solid Guile player. IF you're good enough to beat Daigo, then you're pretty good at the game :|
Jeff definitely had Daigo out of his comfort zone. I have never seen Daigo play so prudently before. If you watch their other fights, Jeff made Daigo play a different style the whole time because he countered everything Daigo tried.
@TrueSephiros Wait just wait. 1 This is casual! 2 Daigo is on american sticks........nuff said. So you saying Jeff had a ten year hiatus is pointless to the convo.
If any of the jap legends had applied themselves to CE, HF and Super they would have been considerably better than the US greats like watson and tomo. Those guys are on another level. If you want to see the pinnacle of fundamentals look at aniken, look at shooting D, look at Komoda a blanka that craps on Jeffs "blanka train". This stuff u discuss is all nice and quaint and they were good in their day, but levels got higher, better players emerged. You talk as if these guys are super human
Eh, just have the OG legends play ST. I think we can all agree that it's the best SF2 out there. HF has ridiculously overpowered additions like CE Bison (Dictator), WW Guile and so on.
@EltonChong75 You're an idiot. Daigo is basically Japan's God players, along with Nuki, Aniken, Yuuvega, etc... And Daigo, the guy that beats those players CONSISTENTLY, lost horrifically to, Jeff. He used CE Guile, so? Did Daigo complain? No. Jeff stuck with what he knew. If they would have applied themselves into CE, HF, it wouldn't make a difference. They'd still be at their position. Jeff and Tomo and Watson, BACK IN THEIR YOUTH, were Godlike. Along with Kuni Fanada.
@EltonChong75 I'm in University. Just passed my Physics and Psychology finals with a B+. My chemistry final is in 3 days. I agree, I need an education. Having fun playing against IrrepressibleGuile and other scrubs alike? Why not test your skills against Yuuvega or other Japan's Godlike players like I do? Don't joke around with education when your grammar is anything less then shit on a stick.
@XxGonixXFAN So u found time to get an education in between playing yuuvega and sucking jeff and felcher watson off? Im impressed. Now you can afford some knee pads :) Another butt hurt lil princess, a flat earther too scared to challenge his erroneous world view. Stay ignorant!!
@EltonChong75 Defending a legend of the game is like defending Ronaldinho when people comment on how much he sucks. Defending = giving oral sex? Hmm, I'm not sure how well you have been educated. Tell me of your educational backround? High school dropout? Thanks for not retorting to ANYTHING of what I wrote, but instead insult me using false accusations. I'm ignorant? Didn't I reply to what you wrote point by point? You're the one that dodged everything. Go kill yourself, useless:)
@XxGonixXFAN This thread goes back a lot further than the last 5 posts. Most of the necessary points have already been made. Stop being lazy and obnoxious and go back and read instead of expecting me to respond to your points. I also offered to educate you by sending you a link mr Physics-graduate-earth-is-flat. Also nice noob play on your channel. Id like t see some matches against yuuvega next time
@XxGonixXFAN Oh and stop boasting about the fact ur a student. Dumbest thing i ever heard. U havent even graduated yet so there's still plenty of time to fail!!! You have nothing to base your assessment of me on but if you must know im a university graduate and earning a living. That puts me ahead of you and most likely considerably more wealthy.
@EltonChong75 "I'm in University. Just passed my Physics and Psychology finals with a B+" - Great point you had there. Finally decided to quit dodging and actually TRY to make a reasonable retort? Oh, where is this extra time you seem to have for Youtube trash talking and Xbox live sucking coming from? It's great when people lie. It's even greater then you catch them lieing, funny.
@XxGonixXFAN You have no idea what you're talking about do you. I've just realised you know absolutely zip about the game. Why am i even bothering with this crap, its akin to casting pearls before swine. Like i said you want an education, swallow your pride and message me.
@EltonChong75 Oh, not retorting to what I said, AGAIN? What's this? Oh, false accusations, AGAIN? What's this?!? Cute, little idiot :3 Are you free this weekend? Haven't played in months due to University, but I'm sure anyone who has trouble against irrepressibleguile shouldn't be too much trouble. I'll just put my nads on the controller and play, good enough.
Layers my friend. If people use different tacs now.. and jeff played them for a bit.. bet your ass he'd find the counters. It's a matter of focus and hardwork.. jeff seems to have both. Your critique comes off as shallow and baseless. How many rounds could u honestly take off the guy getting multiple perfects on daigo? Ok.. since the answer is likely none.. why should anyone care what u have to say?
@raistlin2031 oh dear. was cus damato a great boxer? no but he was a brilliant analyst. we should probably assume ur a justin bieber fan because he is a better singer thsn you. u have no right to criticise him. i have offered a rational critique of these dinosaurs, probably the best to date so u should care what i say
@raistlin2031 and you are just another butthurt flat-earther. denial isnt just a river in egypt. wake up. also just released footage of jeff gettimg decimated by old mastah. run a youtube search or message me for the link. its painful to watch. the blanka train got exposed
One with Half a brain would have constructed my logic that SUPERS CHANGE THE GAME OF SF2. No shit Blanka's Super sucks, however that doesn't mean that Komoda is playing against Balrog that if Balrog has Super, it completely changes the facet of the match up.
You can no longer zone DOMINANTLY w/ Blanka anymore once that's up. Same someone playing Ryu, w/ the addition of Super, it compensates for lack of a footsie game, which is APPARENT in current day SF players.
One with Half a brain would have constructed my logic that SUPERS CHANGE THE GAME OF SF2. No shit Blanka's Super sucks, however that doesn't remove the fact that when Komoda is playing against Balrog that if Balrog has Super, it completely changes the facet of the match up.
You can no longer zone DOMINANTLY w/ Blanka anymore once that's up. Samething when playing Ryu, w/ the addition of Super, it compensates for lack of a footsie game, which is APPARENT in current day SF players.
Also...Daigo didn't use O. Sagat in the other match up, he used CE. Sagat vs Jeff's CE. Guile...and STILL lost. However, wait for Elton to bring an excuse on that as well, believe on this, if it was Prime Jeff, there's no way Daigo even wins one single entire set against him. I mean, HF. Blanka (one of his mains) had shotty hitboxes in here, watch that match up where he should've hit but it just magically whiffs, lmao.
@TrueSephiros Listen, when you and jeff go for a romantic stroll just be sure you dont fall off the edge of the planet. Keep believing the earth is flat, true fighters know this is BS. Go on fighting game discussion on srk and the golden era thread if you want to address my real points. You follow nothing but conjecture and myth and only a noob and a moron really buys into this crap.
@EltonChong75 Yes, spoken like a true person who has no idea what they are talking about. How many more excuses are there? Now what will you say to the video in which Daigo picked CE. Sagat vs Jeff's CE. Guile and still lost? Even though that match up is IN favor of Sagat. CE. Guile is great, but he's not invincible, Ryu can beat him, ST. Ryu slightly less only, and he still has super. Please stop giving Daigo excuses, Jeff had AS MANY problems playing here if not More.
@TrueSephiros lol stop sucking up on jeff and i am not daigo fan. He don't even compete now whats the use. If he is so godly he should compete and win every year, no use complaining about supers. Its still an aspect of the game, as a top pro he should be talented enough to adjust. You said as if he don't play for 10yrs in fact i bet he still plays everyday. Daigo is new generation playing new versions with diff style. We never know cause they never met at old version when daigo was small kid.
@EltonChong75 There is no myth, ASK anyone who played during that Era, Ask Watson, Ask Apoc, Eggo, Kwang, Kuni (who played in Japan and US at the time), Jeff. See if "any" of them are calling bs on the strategies they employed back then.
You like to "pretend" that current players like Daigo, Muteki were better, but they play in an ERA where Supers have FUNDAMENTALLY changed how you play SF2. They play with LESS emphasis on zoning and footsies, because Supers change that aspect.
@TrueSephiros LOL you understand very little about ST. Maybe u should spend more time actually playing. Komoda the best blanka ever doesnt rely on his super, same with aniken's Ken, and guile's super, vega and sagats too. I would say some characters like Ryu's super are game changing and also rog, but they add to the game, they dont change the need for fundamentals. Also supers have 2 be built up, so up to that point it is all fundamentals and the jap legends have the best fundamentals bar none
@EltonChong75 Like I said, it's so hypocritical for you to talk about how disadvantage Daigo was, when you clearly fly over the fact that Jeff was at a greater disadvantage (Btw, in 1998 if I remember, Daigo played A3 and beat Valle on US sticks, so I highly doubt that would be problematic here in 2004).
It isn't "fluke" when Jeff perfected ALL of Daigo's mains at least once. Daigo is a phenomenal player, but he would never beat Prime Jeff in OG SF2.
@TrueSephiros If Jeff was that great he would have entered evo every year. He still has a passion for the game, that much can be seen by the vids he makes every other day. He quit cos he couldnt hang on ST. Mike watson was a superior player to jeff, he was the closest to Tomo and look what he achieved in ST. U simply cannot compare the Jap legends of ST to these old school players. What jeff did here amounted to an opportunistic mugging. It's absurd the way you are constantly praising these guys
@TrueSephiros Jeff has never quit SF, he has played every day since his retirement just hasnt entered tourneys. Hell, he even plays on Xbox live but wont reveal his gamer tag. You have built this persona around discussing the golden era and it's frankly ridiculous. You have cobbled together info from SRK and Jeffs page and just repeated it. That proves nothing. I have proof for the claims i make. Go youtube Watson vs Jesse, that play sucks in comparison to todays level and that was prime watson.
@TrueSephiros Like i said go to SRK and continue the discussion there. Go on fighting game discussion and look up the golden era thread. In all honesty there is no arguing with people who deny evidence and fact and instead prefer to wrap themselves up in a cosy fiction and for what reason i will never know.
@EltonChong75 I've already posted in that thread, go back and read it up.
The fact is, you have ZERO evidence to prove anything, the players during that ERA vouched for what they did, and how dominant their players were. If by your "logic" if Daigo was indeed that "good" then he would have straight up BEATEN Jeff.
However although Jeff execution wise was WAY off due to 10+ years of no competitive play, fundamentally he was superior to Daigo. Plus greater knowledge allowed him more wins.
Also, lol at complaining about CE. Dictator in AE. Considering this CE. Arcade Dictator was 100X worse then CE. AE Dic. In AE, you can get out of scissor lockdowns, in true arcade CE, you simply couldn't if done right. CE. Dictator in AE is significantly easier to beat. I'll admit CE. Dictator is dumb, but he can be beat in AE, as what was proven in both US and Japan tournaments.
Eltonchong I find it hilarious how u suck daigo off in the vid where he beats mike watson using ce guile but here u run ur mouth about how overpower ce guile is. Should every character that ever beats daigo be banned? Come up for some air once in a while
@scc1244 Quit following me around faggot. This was a BS win. CE guile is joke in anniversary, such a bad game, why you think it never gained a foothold in the tourney scene. Tick the following, faster recovery off the boom, fewer startup frames on backfist, insane range on low foward knocking ryu out of fireballs from range, more range with flashkick, insane damage. Daigo was jetlagged and on top of that using american sticks. Mike Watson even calls BS on this so called win.
@EltonChong75 call it whatever you want, jetlag, using an american stick... but a win is a win. If daigo was smart enough he would've went for a CE charc.. plain and simple
@EltonChong75 Blaming Daigo's loss to jet lag, and American controls is pathetic. Because if you state that then you should also say that Jeff hadn't played COMPETITIVELY for 10+ years, he was not used to the Speed of AE whatsoever, and he couldn't even complete any of his combos hence why he even went for throws. Throw in the fact that he doesn't even Main Guile in the first place as well.
This was 2004 Daigo in his prime for SF2, so if anything, Jeff was more at the disadvantage over Daigo.
Seriously, anyone who is impressed by this knows nothing about CE Guile and what a powerful character he is. Either that or the level of dishonesty is off the scale.
@strafer Soft bannd in the context of ST but the same principle doesnt aply to AE cos you hav a host of overblown charactrs. Take CE bison as another example. AE nevr gaind a foothold as a tourney game cos of its myriad flaws and balance issues. No, bottom line, if Jef playd Dago on a level playin field and by that i mean on ST with ST characters, jef wud hav lost ova the duration. Jef didnt beat Dago, what beat dago was an admitedly excelent guile player with the sledgehammer that is CE Guile
@EltonChong75 Are you seriously going to give Daigo excuses? No shit if Daigo played Jeff in ST, Daigo would probably have the advantage, because you know why? Jeff never Took ST seriously at all. Now if Daigo played Jeff in WW, CE, or HF, Jeff would straight up beat Daigo.
You really disregard Guile that much? When you should clearly know that Ryu can mop up Guile by taking out with c.mk, arguably his most potent attack, stating CE. Guile is the reason is stupid.
@XxGonixXFan Gonix, remember this, Daigo during 2004 ( the same yr these matches were recorded) wrecked Japan AND the USA in SF2, and this was when Daigo was at his absolute Peak in SF2. Yet here he is playing a 10+ yr retired player. Watch all the vids, every one of Daigo's Best Characters gets perfected at least ONCE
Daigo's peak SF2 prime abilities here would have been Upper-Tier at best in comparison to the OG SF2 Era. Why can't you realize that a 10+ retired player dominated.
@TrueSephiros I can realize that, I never said I didn't realize that, I never said anything to disagree. I just said I couldn't understand. IF you still are being stupid, allow me to clarify other things. I like the old SF players, the ones that actually had skill and passion for the game. They didn't care about money, they just wanted to play and have fun, that's what Daigo and a bunch of other players lack nowadays. Their crap compared to Tomo or Mike or Jeff
@XxGonixXFAN So if a out of his prime Jeff won this convincingly against a Prime SF2 Daigo, just imagine a in his Prime Jeff of the early-mid 90's playing against Prime SF2 Daigo. It would have been a murderfest, considering CE. Guile wasn't even Jeff's main, however due to his real main, HF. Blanka's hitboxes being all jacked up in HSF2, he was Forced to switch over to CE. Guile. If it was the true HF. Blanka and a prime Jeff, there's no way Daigo even wins one time.
Well done Jeff. You caught Daigo off-guard there. Giddied him on both rounds, thwarted his third slam attempt on you in the first, rendered him clueless with Guile's repeated longer crouch middle kick haha on the start of the second and perfected that one in the end.
@SeventhSun If you don't know what it means I'm not even going to bother, especially since your so quick to jump to insults when I have not even said anything to you.
@oz999 Lol scrubs like SeventhSun are nothing but Daigo cheerleaders,he probably doesn't even play any SF games, just trolls around youtube defending his idol Daigo.
Wow, Daigo was doing pretty good at the beginning~ until he got straight-up owned by Guile. Then again, Guile is pretty good in SF2 compared to other games.
@mindahl Stop hating foo, you're just a Youtube. Jeff is a fucking MENACE, beast to the core, but don't hate on, Daigo. That just makes you look like a, Jeff nut rider.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that match sucked, daigo sucks balls in casuals. 0:43 looks like he is just mashing roundhouse. well at least we know he rapes at tourneys, jeff and all the og's are great but they suck at tourneys (against japs)
i can see jeff definately knows how to play, but im guessing he wouldnt be as successfull using those tactics against daigo if he were to use super turbo characters.
Incorrect jd, I believe, Jeff would be just as successful, if not 10x more successful had Jeff of been in his prime playing Daigo.
You can't ask a 35+ yr old at the time to be as good as he was when he was like 17 yrs old. Ain't going to happen.
However the tactics are extremely different here, the mentality is very different. Jeff's form of tactics is true OG class. No current top ST player has this lvl of OG mentality anymore, considering most of it died off post-94.
i agree with you on the fact that he wont be as good now after all this time but he still played very well. As a sft player myself,ce guile and st guile have to be used slightly diffrent as with st guile his sonic boom/flash kick isnt as strong also there will be no 2 hit dizzys,no high priority normal moves either....and jeff was makin the most out of all these tools.
To be honest, if Jeff was playing ST, I highly doubt he would be using Guile. Most probably either Rog or Sim, considering he was never really a "Guile" player per say like how Tomo was. In CE, Jeff played Sim, and in HF he played Blanka.
He only chose CE. Guile was mainly due to the fact that he was struggling with the timing for HF. Blanka, again, if the Blanka Train got going, Daigo would not have won once.
Lastly, ST. Guile vs ST. Ryu is nearly even when played correctly anyhow. So if it was "Prime" Jeff, he would've taken it hands down.
The OG footsie, zoning game is vastly, vastly, vastly superior to the Best SFII players today, it's not even a close comparison. Jeff's knowledge of the game, and his prime version's execution of play would have outpaced Daigo.
Undisputed #1 Ryu player in the OG Golden Era was hands down, Tomo The Legend Ohira, nobody, and I mean, nobody had a Ryu like this guy.
What made it even more insane, was how Tomo would have dominated using Ryu in WW, Guile I can see, but Ryu in WW????
Ryu had a horrible Hadouken, hurricane kick, shoryuken in WW, however for Tomo to be that good using using arguably SFII Ryu's worse incarnation and dominate speaks volumes.
Not to mention during CE as well, when Dictator was literally a God.
wow! seems jeff would have cleaned house at all sbo's and evo's if he was still in his prime huh? we can keep on debating over jeff/daigo matches but you have your opinion and i have mine.....but im sure theres some animal in some backstreet arcade in japan that would have handed tomo's and jeff's ass to them. lmao
No, there would not have, the best of Japan's playing is out there today. It'd be laughable to believe that there's a "secret" japanese player out there right now, super, super, highly unlikely.
The best of Japan in the past would have posed a better competition for Tomo and Jeff in their prime.
The ones of today lack the core SFII fundamentals to have stood a chance. Again, Prime Daigo here should easily have won if he was better, clearly Jeff was the smarter player here.
BIGGEST difference between OG SFII players to NG SFII players is simple. NG likes to play aggressive and go for the big win, while OG players like Jeff love to turtle, position and brutally own you.
SFII is a positioning, zoning game at heart, and you can clearly tell here in this match up. Daigo simply cannot do anything, mind you, this is 2004 Daigo, a in his prime Daigo mind you, taking on a 10+ yr out of competition Jeff.
Jeff was a monster in SFII in hi day, only one better was Tomo.
I'm follow this guy Jeff and Ownage is his first name fuck a jeff. I don't care what version of Guile it is he straight up owned Daigo. I never seen shit like this before. Remove 10 years from comp and he did this? what the fuck he see numbers instead character on screen?
@sithspc - See i Like Daigo in all but he was'nt ready for somebody who did'nt fear him. Notice How Jeff never stayed stationary to launch sonics booms for a Zoning battle. Daigo was expecting somebody who would be afraid to get close and mix it up.
You say Daigo actually let his name get to his head? Possibly. There seemed something wrong with his responses. He looked almost like a clueless amateur if you look again closely ahhahaha.
@SeventhSun Nah not that but.. This time Diago was zoned out. See when he played Muteki Guile that dude was panicking when he clearly missed plenty of opportunities to strike hard. Muteki tried to outzone Daigo by throwing Sonic booms but Jeff punished him for throwing hadoken(His bread and butter.). I never ever seen Guile cr.forward poke Ryu's hadoken at roundstart along with well place backhands stuffing Daigo every move. Wether is player match or Tournament this is was some good shit.
@SDSOverfiend Urm he actually DID mix it up. As soon as the first round ended, Jeff gained confidence, and he basically mind tricked daigo a lot. So what you said is PARTLY true, what you forgot to add was that Jeff did change up his plan. Instead of turtling, he just went right in and Daigo basically gave up
Urm that exactly what i said...."This time Diago was zoned out.
@SDSOverfiend It's kinda hard to understand when it feels so unclear, I couldn't figure out just who you were talking about due to lack of use of describing the situation better. I suggest you write that again
@XxGonixXFAN That should be a hint for you to get off my dick about this old as video. You jump into my convo lost and want me to correct myself so your lame ass could catch up? Puh-leeze. this video is not about me so get off mine and enjoy the O.G. putting in work.
@SDSOverfiend I don't get why you're getting so offended and angry. All I Said was I couldn't understand what you wrote and you made no effort to better explain it. That doesn't mean I'm on your dick (what the fuck is that about? LOL) or being a troll or in anyway. I didn't even (by your analogy) lose in anyway since I didn't argue in anyway, I just said I couldn't understand. Jeez dude, stop mashing your keyboard and use your brain, idiots nowadays lol
@XxGonixXFAN My other post to somebody else....."See i Like Daigo in all but he was'nt ready for somebody who did'nt fear him. Notice How Jeff never stayed stationary to launch sonics booms for a Zoning battle. Daigo was expecting somebody who would be afraid to get close and mix it up"
hey i know let's argue for like 8 years over the internet about some other dudes that we don't know

XxGonixXFAN 6 months ago
@XxGonixXFAN Ok sure jeff was great at hf. But anybody who understands high level play and understands how guile plays can win with CEGuile. Same could be said for Daigo. He doesnt main half the people he played BUT on US sticks at that!. The vid shows very basic guile play. His crouch low forward is to good on ce. But what ever this was not tourney this was casual. Thats like me uploading myself beating daigo in casuals on sf4. So im better now?
jago397 6 months ago

@EltonChong75 they need to have a HF tournament at the next evo to settle this discussion. OG american crew against the current japanese top 5.

TrueSephiros 1 year ago
@TrueSephiros Listen, when you and jeff go for a romantic stroll just be sure you dont fall off the edge of the planet. Keep believing the earth is flat, true fighters know this is BS. Go on fighting game discussion on srk and the golden era thread if you want to address my real points. You follow nothing but conjecture and myth and only a noob and a moron really buys into this crap.
EltonChong75 1 year ago
@EltonChong75 Yes, spoken like a true person who has no idea what they are talking about. How many more excuses are there? Now what will you say to the video in which Daigo picked CE. Sagat vs Jeff's CE. Guile and still lost? Even though that match up is IN favor of Sagat. CE. Guile is great, but he's not invincible, Ryu can beat him, ST. Ryu slightly less only, and he still has super. Please stop giving Daigo excuses, Jeff had AS MANY problems playing here if not More.
TrueSephiros 1 year ago

TrueSephiros 1 year ago

TrueSephiros 1 year ago
@TrueSephiros If Jeff was that great he would have entered evo every year. He still has a passion for the game, that much can be seen by the vids he makes every other day. He quit cos he couldnt hang on ST. Mike watson was a superior player to jeff, he was the closest to Tomo and look what he achieved in ST. U simply cannot compare the Jap legends of ST to these old school players. What jeff did here amounted to an opportunistic mugging. It's absurd the way you are constantly praising these guys
EltonChong75 1 year ago 4
@TrueSephiros Jeff has never quit SF, he has played every day since his retirement just hasnt entered tourneys. Hell, he even plays on Xbox live but wont reveal his gamer tag. You have built this persona around discussing the golden era and it's frankly ridiculous. You have cobbled together info from SRK and Jeffs page and just repeated it. That proves nothing. I have proof for the claims i make. Go youtube Watson vs Jesse, that play sucks in comparison to todays level and that was prime watson.
EltonChong75 1 year ago 4
@TrueSephiros Like i said go to SRK and continue the discussion there. Go on fighting game discussion and look up the golden era thread. In all honesty there is no arguing with people who deny evidence and fact and instead prefer to wrap themselves up in a cosy fiction and for what reason i will never know.
EltonChong75 1 year ago
@EltonChong75 I've already posted in that thread, go back and read it up.
The fact is, you have ZERO evidence to prove anything, the players during that ERA vouched for what they did, and how dominant their players were. If by your "logic" if Daigo was indeed that "good" then he would have straight up BEATEN Jeff.
However although Jeff execution wise was WAY off due to 10+ years of no competitive play, fundamentally he was superior to Daigo. Plus greater knowledge allowed him more wins.
TrueSephiros 1 year ago 2
Also, lol at complaining about CE. Dictator in AE. Considering this CE. Arcade Dictator was 100X worse then CE. AE Dic. In AE, you can get out of scissor lockdowns, in true arcade CE, you simply couldn't if done right. CE. Dictator in AE is significantly easier to beat. I'll admit CE. Dictator is dumb, but he can be beat in AE, as what was proven in both US and Japan tournaments.
TrueSephiros 1 year ago
seriously no serious player takes this win seriously cos they know its bs on so many levels. This is strictly for the kids and the daigo haters.
EltonChong75 1 year ago
Eltonchong I find it hilarious how u suck daigo off in the vid where he beats mike watson using ce guile but here u run ur mouth about how overpower ce guile is. Should every character that ever beats daigo be banned? Come up for some air once in a while
scc1244 1 year ago
@scc1244 Quit following me around faggot. This was a BS win. CE guile is joke in anniversary, such a bad game, why you think it never gained a foothold in the tourney scene. Tick the following, faster recovery off the boom, fewer startup frames on backfist, insane range on low foward knocking ryu out of fireballs from range, more range with flashkick, insane damage. Daigo was jetlagged and on top of that using american sticks. Mike Watson even calls BS on this so called win.
EltonChong75 1 year ago
@EltonChong75 call it whatever you want, jetlag, using an american stick... but a win is a win. If daigo was smart enough he would've went for a CE charc.. plain and simple
rocknflip66 1 year ago
@EltonChong75 Blaming Daigo's loss to jet lag, and American controls is pathetic. Because if you state that then you should also say that Jeff hadn't played COMPETITIVELY for 10+ years, he was not used to the Speed of AE whatsoever, and he couldn't even complete any of his combos hence why he even went for throws. Throw in the fact that he doesn't even Main Guile in the first place as well.
This was 2004 Daigo in his prime for SF2, so if anything, Jeff was more at the disadvantage over Daigo.
TrueSephiros 1 year ago
can't fuck with an O.G like that
rocknflip66 1 year ago
Seriously, anyone who is impressed by this knows nothing about CE Guile and what a powerful character he is. Either that or the level of dishonesty is off the scale.
EltonChong75 1 year ago
@EltonChong75 Yet Daigo uses old Sagat in a match against Jeff and that's ok? Old Sagat is practically soft banned in Japan.
strafer 1 year ago
@strafer Soft bannd in the context of ST but the same principle doesnt aply to AE cos you hav a host of overblown charactrs. Take CE bison as another example. AE nevr gaind a foothold as a tourney game cos of its myriad flaws and balance issues. No, bottom line, if Jef playd Dago on a level playin field and by that i mean on ST with ST characters, jef wud hav lost ova the duration. Jef didnt beat Dago, what beat dago was an admitedly excelent guile player with the sledgehammer that is CE Guile
EltonChong75 1 year ago

TrueSephiros 1 year ago
@TrueSephiros I can realize that, I never said I didn't realize that, I never said anything to disagree. I just said I couldn't understand. IF you still are being stupid, allow me to clarify other things. I like the old SF players, the ones that actually had skill and passion for the game. They didn't care about money, they just wanted to play and have fun, that's what Daigo and a bunch of other players lack nowadays. Their crap compared to Tomo or Mike or Jeff
XxGonixXFAN 1 year ago
@XxGonixXFAN So if a out of his prime Jeff won this convincingly against a Prime SF2 Daigo, just imagine a in his Prime Jeff of the early-mid 90's playing against Prime SF2 Daigo. It would have been a murderfest, considering CE. Guile wasn't even Jeff's main, however due to his real main, HF. Blanka's hitboxes being all jacked up in HSF2, he was Forced to switch over to CE. Guile. If it was the true HF. Blanka and a prime Jeff, there's no way Daigo even wins one time.
TrueSephiros 1 year ago
Well done Jeff. You caught Daigo off-guard there. Giddied him on both rounds, thwarted his third slam attempt on you in the first, rendered him clueless with Guile's repeated longer crouch middle kick haha on the start of the second and perfected that one in the end.

i can see jeff definately knows how to play, but im guessing he wouldnt be as successfull using those tactics against daigo if he were to use super turbo characters.
jdcj3f974 2 years ago
Incorrect jd, I believe, Jeff would be just as successful, if not 10x more successful had Jeff of been in his prime playing Daigo.
You can't ask a 35+ yr old at the time to be as good as he was when he was like 17 yrs old. Ain't going to happen.
However the tactics are extremely different here, the mentality is very different. Jeff's form of tactics is true OG class. No current top ST player has this lvl of OG mentality anymore, considering most of it died off post-94.
Great Play here.
TrueSephiros 2 years ago 5
i agree with you on the fact that he wont be as good now after all this time but he still played very well. As a sft player myself,ce guile and st guile have to be used slightly diffrent as with st guile his sonic boom/flash kick isnt as strong also there will be no 2 hit dizzys,no high priority normal moves either....and jeff was makin the most out of all these tools.
jdcj3f974 2 years ago
To be honest, if Jeff was playing ST, I highly doubt he would be using Guile. Most probably either Rog or Sim, considering he was never really a "Guile" player per say like how Tomo was. In CE, Jeff played Sim, and in HF he played Blanka.
He only chose CE. Guile was mainly due to the fact that he was struggling with the timing for HF. Blanka, again, if the Blanka Train got going, Daigo would not have won once.
TrueSephiros 2 years ago 6
TrueSephiros 2 years ago 6
@TrueSephiros
Who were the better/best Ryu players from the OG ? I'm assuming OG means old generation, correct me if I'm wrong.
azarel7 2 years ago
TrueSephiros 2 years ago 3
you're right, Dictator is CE was crazy..for him to get dominated by Ryu is amazing..
Are any of Tomo's games recorded anywhere...I found a Tomo on youtube but I don't think that that's him...

jdcj3f974 2 years ago
No, there would not have, the best of Japan's playing is out there today. It'd be laughable to believe that there's a "secret" japanese player out there right now, super, super, highly unlikely.
The best of Japan in the past would have posed a better competition for Tomo and Jeff in their prime.
The ones of today lack the core SFII fundamentals to have stood a chance. Again, Prime Daigo here should easily have won if he was better, clearly Jeff was the smarter player here.

Look how stupid this Daigo plays. Ya Jeff can own him, THAT ISN'T THE POINT. It's how the Ryu player played, I never seen Daigo play so bad

Holy fuck. Never knew Guile was this good, lol. He sure stunned Ryu pretty easily...

Second round. 7 hits.
4 cr.m.kick
1 sound boom
1 stiff backhand
and a flying chop for the finsher = Diago losing? WTF!!!

since old school SF2 gamers like Mike Watson & Jeff S. are this damn good,
im very curious on how beastly Tomo Ohira is! and by that i would really like to see any video of Tomo!
rocknflip66 2 years ago 10
Mike said he only beat him once. And Jeff said Tomo took 70% from him.

The beast just got dominated. Impossible ...
XxGonixXFAN 2 years ago
Daigo's only human, a beastly human.
When it comes to SF II, though, the OG's are akin to Gods in this game.

Jeff is a fuckin beast.

Schaeffer is a great SF2 player but remember that HSF is one of most unbalanced games ever, most ST characters fail against older versions.
CE.Guile/CE.Sagat/CE Dic just dominate this version of SF2.

SDSOverfiend 2 years ago 37
@SDSOverfiend I agree. This guy definitely sees numbers instead of characters. lol. Insane!
sithspc 1 year ago
@sithspc - See i Like Daigo in all but he was'nt ready for somebody who did'nt fear him. Notice How Jeff never stayed stationary to launch sonics booms for a Zoning battle. Daigo was expecting somebody who would be afraid to get close and mix it up.
SDSOverfiend 1 year ago
@SDSOverfiend
You say Daigo actually let his name get to his head? Possibly. There seemed something wrong with his responses. He looked almost like a clueless amateur if you look again closely ahhahaha.
SeventhSun 1 year ago
@SeventhSun Nah not that but.. This time Diago was zoned out. See when he played Muteki Guile that dude was panicking when he clearly missed plenty of opportunities to strike hard. Muteki tried to outzone Daigo by throwing Sonic booms but Jeff punished him for throwing hadoken(His bread and butter.). I never ever seen Guile cr.forward poke Ryu's hadoken at roundstart along with well place backhands stuffing Daigo every move. Wether is player match or Tournament this is was some good shit.
SDSOverfiend 1 year ago
@SDSOverfiend Urm he actually DID mix it up. As soon as the first round ended, Jeff gained confidence, and he basically mind tricked daigo a lot. So what you said is PARTLY true, what you forgot to add was that Jeff did change up his plan. Instead of turtling, he just went right in and Daigo basically gave up
XxGonixXFAN 1 year ago
Urm that exactly what i said...."This time Diago was zoned out. See when he played Muteki Guile that dude was panicking when he clearly missed plenty of opportunities to strike hard. Muteki tried to outzone Daigo by throwing Sonic booms but Jeff punished him for throwing hadoken(His bread and butter.). @SDSOverfiend It's kinda hard to understand when it feels so unclear, I couldn't figure out just who you were talking about due to lack of use of describing the situation better. I suggest you write that again
XxGonixXFAN 1 year ago
@XxGonixXFAN Its seems that way because i was talking about the situation to someone. In short i don't have to write it again it makes no sense to.
SDSOverfiend 1 year ago
@SDSOverfiend That should be a hint to fix up your grammar and get better at writing
XxGonixXFAN 1 year ago
@XxGonixXFAN That should be a hint for you to get off my dick about this old as video. You jump into my convo lost and want me to correct myself so your lame ass could catch up? Puh-leeze. this video is not about me so get off mine and enjoy the O.G. putting in work.
SDSOverfiend 1 year ago
@SDSOverfiend I don't get why you're getting so offended and angry. All I Said was I couldn't understand what you wrote and you made no effort to better explain it. That doesn't mean I'm on your dick (what the fuck is that about? LOL) or being a troll or in anyway. I didn't even (by your analogy) lose in anyway since I didn't argue in anyway, I just said I couldn't understand. Jeez dude, stop mashing your keyboard and use your brain, idiots nowadays lol
