This is the first video I've seen of yours and you had me laughin'. The original arcade version looks badass. When I was a kid I begged my parents to rent me Splatterhouse 3 for Genesis and they did. As awesome as it was, it literally gave me nightmares. The moments leading up to the Teddy Bear boss, and the fight itself, scared the shit out of me.

Anybody know how to get Splatterhouse to save correctly in MAME? Whenever I load a save file, the graphics screw up.

Could you try it out in your version of MAME? The problem happened when I closed MAME, then tried to load Splatterhouse's save file again. I have a new version of MAME that is combined with a GUI (MAMEUI32).

From what I've seen Splatterhouse 1 looks better.  Just level design and animation-wise the first one is way ahead of the sequel.

You get the turbo Grafx version, buts is pretty much just as good.

The arcade version is FAR superior to the TG16 in terms of graphics and sound (and gore). If you have the choice, definitely go arcade. However the TG16 was the only home port of this game, so it's your only other choice (the NES game of the same name is completely different). The Japanese TG16 splatterhouse has the white mask like the arcade, while the US version has the red style mask.

I got myself the PS3 remake, it's pretty cool, if you don't mind a complete lack of class. (beats Duke Nukem Forever where you smear shit on the walls, by a bloody longshot, let me tell you) But you can unlock all three original games, so that rocks. Fuck the first one is hard, I can't even get passed those first worm boss things.
