  • YEAH TRUMPETS :D

  • I had the awesome privilege of being directed by Hazo this weekend. My Wind Band played this song, by far my favorite of any I played. He brought a new life to the song, absolutely awesome. As a Bass Clarinet player I enjoyed this driving part of this song immensely. Can't wait to play it again!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved it when he came to my school last year!

  • @sophomorecutie15

Lucky..... Haha it would be the best moment of my life if Samuel hazo conducted this piece for my ensemble. Very fun piece to play, haha one of my most favorite pieces I've ever played.

  • my wind ensemble had the opportunity to have samuel hazo conduct us during this song. he wanted our bass drum player to play louder so he told her to hit the drum like it's her ex boyfriend! he's the greatest!!!

  • OMG so majestic....

  • hhaha i played this in middle school

  • i played this song in our highschool symphonic band 2 years ago when i was in 10th grade. its amazing obv lol

  • Since last year I have been in love with Samuel Hazo's work ever since we played "our yesterdays lengthen like shadows" Eventually after a while of youtube surfing his songs, I fell in love with this one. It is absolutely amazing! For a year now, I have been waiting to play it, even though the percent would be pretty much 1. Well today I became a very happy clarinet player, and by the end of the day, i became a very happy Contra alto clarinet player. Bass inst. FTW Arabesque FTW Samuel Hazo FTW

  • Timpani park =freakin FTW

  • @Sephyrulz ours got so bad that our director had a flute transcribe it

  • Samuel Hazo is cruel to trumpets, lol.

  • @Super3794 OH MY GOD YES HE IS.

It's fun music, though. We played an adaptation of Ride for our opener in our marching season this year.

  • @nickcampbell12 2nd tpt and yeah, that partial is ridiculous

Edit: Crying after 4 hours of practice. :P

  • The climax at 4:57 ... dear god

  • @Sephyrulz ? what are you talking about, i play this for class its not that fast, if you want fast look up czardas played by david childs or better yet flight of the bumblebee by david childs, at some points the camera can barley keep up with his fingers

  • My fav part 0:00-5:57

  • Just played this for All State Band on Saturday, most amazing piece that I've ever played :) Euphonium!

  • @Metalgods1001 Nice! We played this at my all district band...i was lead Euphonium...

  • @Metalgods1001 What state? We did this four years ago at All-State in NC with Hazo conducting :)

  • A Euphonium was not designed to be played that fast...

  • BADASSSSSS

  • @kittykat45678 getting to little attion ha?

  • Our band played this and got 3 superiors :)

  • This is the only good Hazo piece. Of course, that is only my opinion, so don't get mad at me for saying so.

  • Got this back in Novenber for our Decenber concer and its still my favorite, one absolutely amazing bass trombone part

  • @Agent6472 Ha, that's my brother XD

  • 3rd trumpet for this... wow, triplets with just 2nd valve? but the song as a whole is worth it!

  • 4:29 - end..... my favorite part... yet the whole song is of course purely amazing

  • I'm playing timpani for this song, and the sheet music is more black than white.

  • @Juggernaut39735 lol every peice by hazo ive ever done i always play snare or bass or timpani..... soo much black...but in our honor band i decided to do mallets.....OMG is all i can say lol

  • @AllMuttGirl I SO AGREEEEE

  • @AllMuttGirl Yes.

  • @AllMuttGirl me too and wearing a turban

  • I love everything about this piece but the ending...it kinda...doesn't fit with the awesomeness of the rest of it. But I'm happy we're playing this for Wind Ensemble...just wish there was a clarinet solo *humph*

  • I loved playing this peice at Meyerson Symphony Hall in Dallas Texas. Best Day of my Life!!! This song alone changed my life! I went from just "being" in band, to band "being" MY LIFE! I will forever attribute my love of music to this song! Search "Valley Center Arabesque" to see my bands performance of this as well as Lux Arumaque(spl) by Whitacre

  • Might play this in concert, and its a high school band

  • @HisakoHiga Yeah! Hopefully we do well! hahahaha This is Evan BTW.

  • 3:08 almost impossible for a sophmore in hs to learn

  • At 4:56 the Bass Clarinet has a low three finger C, dropping down to the lowest E then up a minor 2nd to the lowest F. During last years Concert, I managed to play that part so powerfully, and powerful=/=loud mind you, that I, along with three people around me shook due to the low-note factor. It. Was. Awesome.

  • @ffrmaster34 Whoops, I meant to say C to low E, then up to F, then back DOWN to E.

  • @ffrmaster34 No one gives a shit.

  • @CmrnNxn No one clearly implies you, and I just have to ask. If you don't give a shit, why bother to even comment? You clearly cared.

  • playing this with an extracurricular music program... <3 on 2nd clarinet, hope to play with school wind ensemble (oboe) next year

  • 4:46 - end | my fave part :D

  • I had the honor of being in a honors band that was guest conducted by Mr. Hazo himself. Though the band I was in did not perform this song it still holds an immense power to it. I am very grateful that I was able to be under his direction.

  • Played this song Senior Year in High School, Hazo surely put his best in this piece but I HATE the ending sorry lol

  • @Endlessdonut97 Grade 5. Ive played this piece on Trumpet. I say it's by far one of the funnest pieces of music I have ever played.

  • Grade 5 or 6, right?

  • I actually played this song with Samual Hazo himself!! He is a fine man and a fine musician! I recomend his songs to anyone.

  • I played this last year on second alto!

  • Was I the only one who heard those runs at 2:29 to 2:34? Thats 5 seconds of runs, 48 notes. thats pretty much 10 notes in 1 second. And they say musicians don't have to work. Psh

  • @CharlieBitMeh I have to play those!

  • @CharlieBitMeh Yes, indeed. I had to play that :D

  • @CharlieBitMeh those runs are RIDICULOUS, trust me I'm having to learn them now. It's 48 notes within a single 6/4 measure

  • @1993Palin: rly?! lucky... SO wish i could do that :P

  • Yay for being the 666th like. :P

  • Ok maybe I'm just dumb, but why did so many people like deathdude's comment about tuba's having the opening part. Is it a joke because it's a flute solo?

  • @cocacolaman3 No, it's because it's fucking awesome

  • Just played this song at a concert it is amazing.

  • Pmea District band is working with Hazo on this. Hes amazing/

  • @Tokyo1012 nice. apparently only people in second chair watch this. oh well. what grade are you guys in?

  • My high school played this my sophomore year. We jacked up the percussion to a ridiculous level. It was amazing. I'm now a senior, and everyone left from that year still has their part memorized.

  • @lotrfan771 hey, i'm in PMEA too! second chair euphonium. see you tomorrow then.

  • @nathanbob1295 Go PMEA! (second chair clarinetist!)

  • I loved playing this last year. I was so obsessed with it and I'm glad I still like it just as much as I did then. It's quite nostalgic.

  • This song is freaking amazing! :) I love it!!!!

  • love this song

  • Best. Ending. Ever.

  • Amazing piece! I love the flute solo in the beginning really brought out that middle eastern sound. I just love it! I hope my band plays this one day, I would enjoy the piccolo part haha

  • Low brass id great, horns are great, trumpets, flutes, oboes, clarinets, percussion, WHERE THE HELL IS THE BASSOON?!

  • @TheSunderstorm You lumped the clarinets and the oboes together = ( not even close

  • @TheSunderstorm pssssst, you left out tuba <3

  • @TheSunderstorm ... bassoon ;(

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSunderstorm You forgot Tuba, so its 10^16 times better XD

  • @TheSunderstorm you forgot bassoon and tuba... 10^17 times better...

  • @TheSunderstorm piccolo makes this song 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000x better

  • @TheSunderstorm Oboes and clarinets are not slashed together into one instrument. That's like saying a bassoon and bass clarinet are the same thing. :( Oboes have a VERY different sound.

  • @TheSunderstorm Forgot tuba, buddy! :D

  • @TheSunderstorm Sooo the tubas don't make it any better? -___-

  • @DogmamgoD nor the bass clarinets I notice either.... hmm.... =/

  • Euphonium part's the best in this song x3 how bout that euphonium+french horn rip at 5:03?

  • Augh, we have to play this in my senior concert band. looking at the sheet music makes me want to cry. D:

  • @dethdude650 thats pretty epic... I play euphonium, power to the low brass!

  • I can't stop listening to this. A few of my friends and I are going to petition to play this in our Honor Band :D

  • I'd like to hear something very similar to this with big swells and chords like at 5:00 - to the end. Phenomenal piece!

  • working on this for our high school's wind ensemble, gonna take a lot to make it sound good

  • I would absolutely LOVE to see a drum corp do a Samuel Hazo show! So many creative marching things you could do with this music!!!!!!!

  • Sam Hazo's best and only piece in a normal time signature

  • Played this last concert season... honestly one of my top 3 favorite pieces ever. Sam Hazo is a genius.

  • so which band is this?

  • where can i get the flute part for this song????

  • Do you know where I can find the flute part to this? It's absolutely gorgeous!!

  • ImPreSsiVe :)

  • "Bass cliff" xD

  • Awesome piece of music. I performed this my sophomore year and my junior year of high school. Very nice piece and we performed it pretty well at the normal tempo. Favorite part is 1:38 to 1:47.
