I just lost my beloved Grey of many years this past spring and we now have a baby male Eclectus, Doc Holliday. He is currently 5 months old and down to 1 formula feeding at night. I have 2 Granddaughters that are 4 and 6 and they help with my birds. It is wonderful to see your Grandson showing such remarkable tenderness and knowledge regarding Pally. I feel that this experience will always stay with our children throughout their lifes. Teaching Love and Respect ... Great Job !!
This is a nice video! The baby is darling and your Eclectus is a beautiful bird. They play so nice together, like two babies. Mom is watching over everything, of course! Great.
@Monst780 Thanks. No one has ever been seriously injured. Justin is much more mature and careful now and is becoming quite a good little aviculturalist. Pally still thinks and plays like a 3 year old :-D
That is absolutely adorable, although I am worried about your pocket book when accidents happen, a tow tossed a bit hard or what ever, your vet must be far more reasonably priced than mine. You have a beautiful family!
That's really neat! I thought the bird was incredibly considerate with the child (and vice versa). Seeing him play with the child at times, that he didn't bite (child or your feet) and wasn't spooked by the camera all show how good you are with the bird. It looked like he took the toy elsewhere when he had to let a little avian "steam" off.
Funny that so many ppl scares that parrot will bite that kid.If kid get bite, he probably asking for it :P I personally am more scared about that kid will hurt the parrot....Children can be so cruel and mean and they dont understand what is wrong and right. And i dont like most of the children, birds i love :D
Very cute video! I have an Amazon and three Conures, and we're still not comfortable enough to let our kids get too close to those unpredictable beaks. Regardless, your son and your Ekky are both adorable! :)
It happens. And birds get hit with toys thrown at them. There have also been yummy treats given for gentle kisses (both ways) ;) Please look at our other videos and see if you can tell the difference between "he/she" Eclectus.
@UmbreonStar57 let alone the child.....the bird cud get seriously hurt by the kid....u shud never leave a kid dat little dat close to a fragile bird unattended
@UmbreonStar57 This is like saying children can't play on jungle gyms because they might fall off. I think letting them interact is wonderful - the child learns to respect animals and the parrot learns how to interact with children. If a bite occurs, it occurs for a reason and the boy learns. Keep it up!
I felt so nervous watching this. I can't trust my quaker with anyone, he bites anyone and anything that gets too near. Seems your eclectus is well trained though.
This is not about trust or training. Pally just likes to play at a 3yr old's level. including the tantrums. There have been bites, and tears over who stole who's toys. Nothing too serious. Fortunately Justin understands that throwing a toy at Pally could really hurt him. We are always close at hand, and are teaching Justin how to handle birds. Pally bit me once the very first time we met. He still had to step up for me. And he hasn't since.
Two other Fids. Bella our "perfect bird" You an see her in some other videos. and KiWi ouur Dusky Headed Conure. Some of our extended family call him Demon-Bird, because he learned to manipulate them with his beak, but he is very attached to our daughter, and can be very sweet.
Not nearly as patient with each other as they seem ;)= it'll be interesting to see if Justin grows up to be a bird-person. Right now Pally has the upper hand, but we're going to teach Justin how to make him step up, and be able to better handle him.
Pally is our "3 yr old in feathers". He likes the same things as children that age. AND he throws the same tantrums when he doesn't get his way. Ever see a child turn their back on you and pout because you took away their toy?
That's amazing how gentle your bird is. I wouldn't ever let my green cheek around small children. She already has a way of bullying nearly everyone she meets.
Thanks for this video, I have added it to my favorites. In return - welcome to visit my channel where only the most decent, lovable and spiritual of YouTube videos are being collected.
Ok thanks for the details. When I get married and have kids, lol, I'll keep my kid away from the parrot :), hopefully get the parrot his own sibling to play with
i also have a female eclectus, her name is dolly, she is so placid..... (but only with my husband!! lol, she hates me!!) she ceans his teeth and all, every time i so uch as walk past her cage she growls at me!!!
dont assume all eclectus are the same as pally...i have a female and she is everything but sweet...she bites, she growls, she plucks (see my vids) she only really likes my mother. parots are like children not all have the same personality...so be careful when getting a parot cause not all will want to play, some will want to rip your face off like mine does.
Hahaha!! "Careful". That's rich. Tell that to the band-aid brigade when Pally grabs your finger by accident (going for the toy), or Justin tries to run you down with his motorized "Disney Cars"...
All I know is "all is fair in "play and war" because they both keep coming back for more.
they probably like each other so much because they are mentally the same age! =) they even move around the same way! it's like having a small, green twin! really cute!
Yeah, Pally actually thinks it's funny to throw them at our face. Our reactions stimulate him, and I don't think anyone isn't going to react to a day-glow acrylic toy flying at you face at a million miles an hour....
What a cute video!! It is amazing how gentle Pally is with Justin!! Justin has no fear either!! His face and hands go near the bird w/o fear. Both baby and bird seem to have complete trust in each other. Very sweet!!
I wouldn't exactly call them "gentle" with each other.... Pally (like all kids) gets a little excited about his toy. Sometimes little finger (or my big ones) get caught between beak and toys, and it Hurts!! I know Justin has "clocked" Pally a few times too. It doesn't really seem to phase him. If you're not playing the way he wants he squaks at you, takes his toy and leaves....
You should look for a local breeder. Eclectus are native to and popular in Australia. Do your homework!! They are allot of work. Also, under no circumstances should you accept an unweaned baby. If you can, wait until after they fledge and learn to fly to clip their wings.
They're both so sweet! As I'm sure you know, it's uncommon for a young child to be so gentle and for a parrot to be so gentle with a small child, even when he was moving his hand fast in his face.
It's so great that they'll be able to grow up together, if Pally isn't already a very old bird, I mean.
uncommon? my son was 7 months when we got our first true parrot now at age 23 months old you'd be shocked how gentle he is with all of them!He knows to be rough w the dogs and gentle w the birds and snakes..Hes more gentle then some grown ups!
Oh believe me. We do have to remind them to be careful. They are only as gentle as a couple of toddlers playing together can be. At one point in the video you can see Justin get hit in the face with a toy. The other night Pally got a handful of toys "hucked" at him. No injuries though. You can pretty much do anything you want to our fids without being bitten.
This is fantastic! How did you get Pally to play on the floor? We have had Buddy for 2 months and he loves me to death but won't go near other members of the family, any hints?
Pally will follow us around the house. It took him a few month to know it was "safe" but he is always there when you turn around. Give Buddy some time to feel safe every where in the house. He will come looking for you and feel safe on the floor!
