First off, thanks for the vids man, they are a big help and incurragement* not good at spelling** Just a suggestion, not sure if it was the angle or what but that nest box looked kinda small. I know you had one egg in but other hen might be clostifobic*** that spelling thing again lol. Thanks!
@zkyzar forgot about this video its old. all those birds died of old age. and the coop had to be torn down because the roof started caving in....that nest never worked for large birds like I had in there....I got it from my mom and she only had Bandies "bantams"...the first nest in the video worked great. I have newer and better coop design & nests...I only like movable coops these day...way more sanitary. Thanks for listening!!! Rick.
@london1817 Yeah that is true about the moveable pins. I have one tractor and an ordinary chicken coop. Already having problems with the ground staying dry, lots of rain this year. Tractors are alot better on that part.
This isn't predator safe. Dogs can EASILY chew through chicken wire. ANY animal can dig under that fence, and hawks can rip that "roof" with their beaks and talons. They aren't dumb. I've had a fox go through my cat door and snatch a rabbit. (the fox is in our freezer now. ;)
@ChameleonsofSandBay I always have chickens for sale but I never sell them over you tube...sorry. Thanks for the comment though...that was nice of you! :)
@katralla well one side of the coop is open so its kinda breezy...Oyster shells increases calcium. Grit just helps them digest food....help grind it up in their crop. (first stomach) Thanks...Rick.

nice, ever think of leaving an egg in each nest box? this way they'll make even more eggs since they'll have the mothering instinct working instead of just laying 1 a day, they'll do 2-3 in my experience, learned that from a old farmer.
@silentfades NO because my coop is 20 steps from the house. & my pit is chained to the outside of the coop. no wild animals or people
will even approch it. I have found a couple dead opossums that he killed. My pets never mess with my chickens. I yell at them if they even start to look interested. Hawks are the only killer because they are faster than anything.
@london1817 trolling is the art of being antagonistic or just generally douchey to people on the internet or real life. usually it involves using logical fallacies or misdirection or both to argue with a person shock or irritate them. his trolling was pretty funny so i plus oned him. to win at trolling you have to irritate the other person while you enjoy laughing at his/her expense. others may also laugh given you only target specific ideologies also judging sometimes occurs with a x/10 scale
awesome video! love the coop! we raise 25 chickens. We have all hens. 9 white leghorns, 10 brown sex links, 3 barred rocks, and three ameracaunas. we also raise 3 pigs... do you raise pigs?
Beautiful rooster! Wish mine would stick around the house! lol But, I got him as an adult, so he isn't very bonded yet. If I let him out, he will wander the hills....always comes home....but I can't let him run free, out of fear of predators catching him. Anyway, it looks like a really nice set up you have!
@Sunshyne276 Thank you for the comment! Hey with your rooster..... if you could hang out with him for 20min. a day for a few weeks & bring him a treat ( salad scraps or something) he will come around...don't try to hold him for a while...He will just be scared of you. before you know it he will follow you everywhere you go. .Haha Rick.
