  • First off, thanks for the vids man, they are a big help and incurragement* not good at spelling** Just a suggestion, not sure if it was the angle or what but that nest box looked kinda small. I know you had one egg in but other hen might be clostifobic*** that spelling thing again lol. Thanks!

  • @zkyzar forgot about this video its old. all those birds died of old age. and the coop had to be torn down because the roof started caving in....that nest never worked for large birds like I had in there....I got it from my mom and she only had Bandies "bantams"...the first nest in the video worked great. I have newer and better coop design & nests...I only like movable coops these day...way more sanitary. Thanks for listening!!! Rick.

  • @london1817 Yeah that is true about the moveable pins. I have one tractor and an ordinary chicken coop. Already having problems with the ground staying dry, lots of rain this year. Tractors are alot better on that part.

  • @zkyzar They will live better eating grass instead of thier poo...I just am lazy and don't want to clean a coop with a shovel to be honest...lol.

  • thank you so much for your videos!! helped me alot!

  • @Unlimitedrs101 you are welcome!..i just love chickens!

  • I have had chickens for about five years now and I love it! thanks

  • @2:29 thats what she said ;)

  • This isn't predator safe. Dogs can EASILY chew through chicken wire. ANY animal can dig under that fence, and hawks can rip that "roof" with their beaks and talons. They aren't dumb. I've had a fox go through my cat door and snatch a rabbit. (the fox is in our freezer now. ;)

  • do you know if greenpower farms has any chickens for sale??

  • @ChameleonsofSandBay I always have chickens for sale but I never sell them over you tube...sorry. Thanks for the comment though...that was nice of you! :)

  • what would be the cost to have your own chicken farm ?

  • @MegaPacman25 That depends on how much you spend buying coops and feeders and waterers...and

how creative you could be to make your own instead.....use your creativity!

  • do you know where i can get some cheap chickens

  • i have a question. well two. how big are Ur ventilation holes and what's the difference between oyster shell and grit. are they the same? x

  • @katralla well one side of the coop is open so its kinda breezy...Oyster shells increases calcium. Grit just helps them digest food....help grind it up in their crop. (first stomach) Thanks...Rick.

  • @london1817 ath ur red star vid nov 20 11 u like to breed them but there a hibrid and u well breed a cult (a sqewed up genes) i know that u can make them by breeding a rhode island red with a white rock google how to breed a rhode island red and a white rock and it sood comer up

  • @allamericanTRAPPER true that man...but dang they are the cutest birds ever!

  • @london1817 frendiy to

  • hes a vegitarian lol i like that one

  • @izzy2liz Thanks! I still have him & he's doing great!

  • Thats really nice of you to build your own houses for them =)

    Bless you

  • @woodmon122 Thanks brother! I have built some new ones that are even way better than on this video! Thanks for the comment!

  • nice one i like it...

  • @bilalshaffi Thanks for the comment!

  • Bird Flu is annihilating disease , how would you deal such??

  • @MsTRINITAS How would I deal with it personally? This is development work...I guess I would just start

over with new birds......after a seriously good coop cleaning.

  • Just got 7 more today- Yeah devils rejects lol lol : )

  • @Calminmind Thats a great movie!

  • Ever seen devils rejects? Get me sum rhoned island reds-

  • @Calminmind Some of those lonnnngggg legged Rhode island reds.....wait a miniute..you don't plan on .....

  • What kind of chicken is the big boy bachlorete in the house with a door? Have one like it want to know breed?

  • @MegaSniper99 He is half black ostrolopes & half rhode island red.

  • @london1817 my chicken is a rhode island red

  • nice, ever think of leaving an egg in each nest box? this way they'll make even more eggs since they'll have the mothering instinct working instead of just laying 1 a day, they'll do 2-3 in my experience, learned that from a old farmer.

  • no fox or racoons ? thought they would be your biggest predator or even dogs or cats ?

  • @silentfades NO because my coop is 20 steps from the house. & my pit is chained to the outside of the coop. no wild animals or people

will even approch it. I have found a couple dead opossums that he killed. My pets never mess with my chickens. I yell at them if they even start to look interested. Hawks are the only killer because they are faster than anything.

  • nice job, bro.

  • @Skyk0rn Thanks very much!

  • cockfighting pit where they put knife on the legs of the chicken and let them kill each other

  • @ugetsy oh...not cool.

  • @ugetsy +1 for a good troll

  • @shinkengatsxa I don't get it?

  • @london1817 trolling is the art of being antagonistic or just generally douchey to people on the internet or real life. usually it involves using logical fallacies or misdirection or both to argue with a person shock or irritate them. his trolling was pretty funny so i plus oned him. to win at trolling you have to irritate the other person while you enjoy laughing at his/her expense. others may also laugh given you only target specific ideologies also judging sometimes occurs with a x/10 scale

  • @shinkengatsxa I have been doing that not even knowing it. Thanks for the definition. & the comment!

  • i love the way you take care your chicken don't put them on the pit pls!

  • @ugetsy What is a pit pis?

  • awesome video! love the coop! we raise 25 chickens. We have all hens. 9 white leghorns, 10 brown sex links, 3 barred rocks, and three ameracaunas. we also raise 3 pigs... do you raise pigs?

  • @jeremy951892 I do not. I have thought about it but they would just wind up being pets around here...Hahah

  • @london1817 lol we were worried about the same thing. we dont slaughter any of our chickens. we are getting sheep next year for pets

  • My lab bust through my chicken wire. What other wire would you suggest?

  • @12quillemall5321 electric fence.

  • Great job. We really enjoy the videos. Keep up the good work. Are the hens noisey? I'm sure the rooster is around 6 am B)

  • @scarekr0 Thanks for saying that! Well the hens are quiet ...but the roosters crow at around 4:30 am..yikes!

  • hey very nice video... great to see you show alot love to your animals .. thumps up

  • @Sykeko I love animals! Chickens are the funnest pets!

  • Beautiful rooster! Wish mine would stick around the house! lol But, I got him as an adult, so he isn't very bonded yet. If I let him out, he will wander the hills....always comes home....but I can't let him run free, out of fear of predators catching him. Anyway, it looks like a really nice set up you have!

  • @Sunshyne276 Thank you for the comment! Hey with your rooster..... if you could hang out with him for 20min. a day for a few weeks & bring him a treat ( salad scraps or something) he will come around...don't try to hold him for a while...He will just be scared of you. before you know it he will follow you everywhere you go. .Haha Rick.

  • that's a very handsome rooster!! and so sweet : )

  • @rositafresita73 Thanks ! He also sticks around the house.

  • @london1817 We have 5 girl chicks, 3 RIReds, 1 Delaware and 1 Barred Rock.... they are about 3 months old. They come in the house and LOVE sitting on our shoulders!! I could have never imagined they were such sweet pets!! Can't wait to get out of the city (Chicago) and get some land and do our organic farming and being kind to nature.... great videos you have!

  • @rositafresita73 That's a great plan! I hope you get goats while out on you farm! In the future farming might be a great skill to know.

  • my family enjoys your videos. keep up the good work. Very helpful.

  • @scarekr0 Thank you & the family for watching! I really enjoy chicken farming.

  • That's not a bad looking coop using the scrap lumber. I think it turned out pretty good.

  • @morningbirdfeeder Thank you! I try to just use what I have these days. Thanks for the comment

  • wait, wait! not just hawks, eagles,- right?

Anyways i only have 4 chickens, i have a favorite chicken named maiga! its just like that one u have that don't bite! but i don't have a farm... i can now, because if the info!

  • Hey....... no better time to start. Thanks for the comment!

  • @potterthecockatiel how much eggs your chickens give you i a week?

  • @hjestrella A week? awe.....around 24....thats plenty...for us.

  • @potterthecockatiel Well that is great to hear my friend!!!!!!!

According to the Worldwatch Institute in Washington. Farmed Animals are Responsible for 51% of Greenhouse Gas Emissions. More than all other sources put together.... Check it.

I Never understand the Idea of eating Chicken Periods.

  • I eat the eggs...never the chickens they are my pets.

  • Hey that's Great. I heard they make nice pets and are clever and affectionate with humans...All the best to you.

  • Chickens are great for a permaculture system.

  • @fjt108 what do you eat? lol

  • It's easier if tell you that I don't eat Eat, meat, fish, or eggs.

But I do eat a very high standard of Vegetarian food.

I ran an International V Restaurant. I've spent 2 yrs in India and I'm a frequent visitor to Far East.

We don't eat Chickens or Chickens Periods.

  • What do you eat for high protein? I drink shakes. I never eat my chickens...I eat eggs.

    The chickens are my pals.

  • But I do think what London1817 is doing is pretty cool. It's just that when you realise what you're eating it kind of puts you off.

All the best to you and seasons greetings.

Pls accept my invite to be friends.

  • Thanks soo much for the comment.

I treat these chickens like friends. Thanks......Rick.

  • @london1817 you can always get chicken diapers! ;-D

  • Haha, Then I can bring him in the house

  • I want to built a coop. Never thought about the netting at top. Thanks

  • Yeah the hawks are very smart & hungry. Got to have the net.

  • I do a job but want to start a poultry farm. Any advice?

  • Yes...Start finding free stuff to build the coop with....Like 2x4's and plywood and chicken wire to start with........Don't get the birds first....build it first.

  • Thanks for the reply. What exactly is a chicken wire can you please explain?

  • Chicken wire is the wire mesh that holds them in....the fencing around the wood. It is also called poultry netting.

  • How do you run the hawks off??? They are very sneaky around here!

  • Hawks, Owls, Possums, Raccoons, and more all love chicken unfortunately. I allow mine to free range during the day and NOW I lock them up at night in their coop. its basically bear proof so nothing will get in to get them. I do loose a few every year to hawks but we try our best to run them off.

  • I think you need 5 females for every male. just some advice

  • Years back I had 1 rooster for 25 hens! That was one tired little man!

They were road island red bantams.

  • thats alot, but to few females can put more stress on the male then having to many

  • I have just built my 1st chicken coop. I only plan on having 3 hens. We live in the city, inside a subdivision. But my neighbors are pretty cool. Nice vids.

  • 3 hens are good enough to feed you. I love haning out with my chickens in the coop. They love it when I come to see them everyday.

  • i put a pole with a black trashbag tied to it on our fence so hawks dont and eat our chickens. the hawk thinks its another big hawk so it will be afraid to come around the chicken/turkey area

  • Thats a good idea. I was thinking of making a scare a crow.

  • Comment removed

  • srry tht was my brothers account when i commented, "MihaiTeodorAndrei"

basicly what i said was tht ur chicken area is great for pheastant and nxt year were getting more animals(ducks, geese, turkeys, instead of chickens) and i wonder if u need alot of land for goat/sheep. i have 4 acres btw

  • 4 acres is about perfect for any farming.

  • Nice coop. Do you use alfalfa for the nest box?

  • no Alfalfa is food. Straw is for nests.

  • dude you always make killer videos i love what your doing you inspire me to do so better around the house i think my wife hates you because its always " honey come watch this video" or "you always work on that stuff but nothing you need to be doing!"

  • Hey thanks so very much! I try to make video's on stuff I am doing around the house but, sometimes I forget to video things. You can make it happen where you are also!!! Peace.........Rick.
