i think in 96 raider was already renamed into "Twix". That renaming was in the early 90s..Nevertheless 96 counts as good old times were i was really young.
Waldner typically plays more in the team competition which favors his team mates (3-0 Person 1991 Worlds?) when they play him in singles but in this tournament I think, singles and Teams were seperate.
Ooh, almost forgot that Walnder lost pretty badly to Johnny Huang in the Olympics that year:-( Also it took Waldner for ever to win this title. But better late than never.
The only thing that calls my attention is the possibility of the ball touching Waldners t-shirt under his left arm when he served but you can not see it clearly in the video. Anyway I think that Persson's complaint came too late, he lost the point and then he lodged a complaint for Waldner´s service, what would happened if he had won the point; would he had done it? Waldner's next service on purpose to give Persson the point he claims for to finish their discussion is rather fair play to me.
The ball control and precision shown by Waldner is what makes him so great. Hardly ever do you see players today hit shots that precise and unpredictable. Persson hustled and deserves credit for staying the game, but it seemed like he just wasn't aggressive enough.
These guys are so courteous and humble on the table... even after being so competitive... Awesome... classic... thanks for sharing...

What a relief for a big Waldner-fan, that he finally won that big single's title.

Waldner, Wang Liqin and Kong Linghui. These guys all had the best shakehand style of play.

i feel very sorry for persson, he never won a medal in the olympics. he really deserve one. and he's been coming at fourth place twice.

@lilmoesk899 Compared to the other great Swedes Waldner was the attacker, Persson the solid offensive player and Applegreen the allarounder.
