To me, the poet seems to be searching for a much deeper meaning to manhood, or adulthood, or humanity, than the masculine visions promoted by those constructing national(ist) identities. Perhaps my presentation of the poem is too rehearsed, but it's just a video on youtube, it's not really such a big deal.
