They just got tired of playing the same music for 2 decades, you can't blame them for wanting to change. If they didn't people would be saying they sound the same on each and every album.

Sometimes change is a good thing, it was either break up or change, and they decided to do something different. who knows, maybe someday they will make another 'Dookie' album.
