  • Got to see these two perform this live. They opened for Bright Eyes, which btw bright eyes wasn't anything special. I remember Gillian's performance much better. After the show, all the little tweens were parading around waiting for Conor to walk from backstage to his van. No one was approaching Gillian and David, so my GF and I walked up to them, we were the only ones to tell them they did an amazing job. So they took pictures with us =) They were very humble and awesome people.

  • where do you get all these videos? you might have the best taste in music of all time. i cant wait to dive into your channel!

  • @klock656 Hope you enjoy what you find, I just make a video file of the audio set to a still picture.

  • listened to her play this on prairie home companion today. brilliant cover!

  • Cudos to them for covering it. The verse had me at the beginning but the chorus lacked the intensity it needed to put it over the top. Still, I'd listen to Gillian sing anything she has to offer, she's one of the best in my book!

  • Gillian has a great voice. I just heard her on NPR, great interview, think I'm a fan now.

  • aw yeah that's what I'm talkin bout!!!

  • ,AND THATS ALL I GOT TO SAY ABOUT THAT F.G.

  • Whoa! Great!

  • greatest voice EVER

  • one of the Greatest voices

  • Amazing.

  • Guitarist is David Rawlings, of course, Gillian's partner. Superb.

  • Cmon...not a shitty version. But this aint.

  • Any version of this great late 60" song is just supurb

  • A friend posted this on FB tonight, and it had been all these years since I heard Gillian Welch. The accompaniment here is SO great, and her voice is in rare form (although normal for her). Kudos to Grace Slick, the POET for writing this! What is amazing is that Gillian was born in 1967, one of the absolutely important years in rock music, especially the SF groups!

  • that is some wicked guitar playin'

  • I remember this so well at the festival!!

They got on stage with Old Crow Medicine Show that weekend too.

    Thanks!!!

  • Excellent. I love the diversity of the material that Gillian Welch does live.

One quibble of no account - the song was first done in 1965 by Grace Slick and the Great Society. If I had to choose, I prefer the Jefferson Airplane version - in part because I listened to it on the same night that I first heard the Grateful Dead. I was 17 and I had never heard anything like those bands. (and I thought Grace was gorgeous)

  • Superb correction and well appreciated.

  • This was the second encore last week in Santa Cruz. Just awesome with lots of reverb.

  • Just a good singer that Gillian Welch

  • This is great... Very flamenco at the start. It builds from soft and soar to trememdous. Amazing that this is done by two voices and two instruments. Amazing that this was the first time they sang it... Fabulous. Thanks Gillian and Dave.

  • The flamenco is certainly there. Jorma Kaukonen said that he got a little tired of playing "Maleguena."

  • awesome beyond words! ...thanks for posting!

  • wow

  • whoa! unexpected but cool!
