Recently bought the whole series in Tesco's ( Coatbridge ) for £2.99...Shocking, but then again, in a selfish, its not...A masterpiece that still has the power to shock and educate, not much around like that these days...G...
I seen the remake first, then went to the original, and ive got to say although the film is very good, i loved the series as well, maybe even more, Bob Peck was absolutely great rip.
Truly superb!-Am addicted to watching Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker and would watch no other version of Edge of Darkness. The BBC has given us fantastic drama for so long now-i actually find it painful to watch Hollywood films as they all seem so unrealistic and frankly the 'acting' in a lot of Hollywood productions does not deserve that term. There are so many actors in BBC productions that are far more deserving of the absurd fees going in LA.Bob Peck was one of them.
Yeah, textthing, I have heard the same from someone else now, that it just doesn't stack up against the original - often the case when movies are re-made, I guess. I only watched the original at first for the underground scenes (being a caver), and discovered a suspenseful, thought-provoking, and brilliantly executed movie. Perhaps they should have left it alone.
Perhaps my favourite line in the series: "That's the problem with plutonium, Craven, it's limited in its application... but as a vehicle for regaining one's self-respect, it's got a lot going for it."
A fantastic drama with superb performances from all especially Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker. Alas Bob is no longer with us, a great tragedy. I've recently bought the DVD and have enjoyed watching it all over again. Absolutely brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant TV. Watched it when aired in the 1980's and was completely hooked from the start. Always been interested in nuclear power and politics so this was just up my street. It was a very sad day when we lost Bob Peck. His and everyone else's perfomanace in this superb series was top notch. Recently bought the DVD and I've been watching it and marvelling it ever since.
It's pretty terrible. The nuclear angle is watered down to some sinister private company doing something or other (it's not important), his daughter is not REALLY a terrorist, and the entire plot is just an excuse for Mel Gibson to engage in bloody vengeance against convenient villains.
hello folks, im looking for the difinite version of edge of darkness for my funeral, basically a studio recording, is there any acousic or mellower versions out there?
Apparently Troy Kennedy-Martin said that Joe Don Baker used to light up a big joint when going out to film his scenes on the golf course, and come back to the crew's hotel stoned out of his brains after shooting. He (Baker) took substantially less than his usual fee to film the series, he liked the script so much.
What a terrible time it was when we lost Bob Peck!I can't believe there are going to remake this!Never will they beat this version. Thanks for the post..
Lol - nice one! Actually, I have NEVER seen such an amazing series in all my life - so atmospheric - I cry when I hear Clapton's rendition of the theme tune and incidental music. I like '24' (my wife's in love with Sutherland) but for stark realism Edge of Darkness knocks that into a cocked hat!
Definitely my favourite tv series ever. I didn't watch it initially in November 85 because the photo on the front of the tv & radio times showed Craven holding a gun, and I thought it looked like a stupid shoot'em'up. How wrong I was.

First saw this series when i was 9,it put the shits up me. As for the re-make,i'd rather have Jedburgh smash Plutonium into my face.

@chudjackson I was too scared to watch the remake. Is it really that bad!! lol.

Plutonium: "It's not user friendly but as a vehicle for gaining one's self respect, oh it's got a lot going for it."
Brilliant

The new movie with Mel Gibson is good but not as good as this. Joe Don Bakers Jedburgh is still brilliant. How we miss Bob Peck.

It hasn't even come out yet. Why the fuck is everyone badmouthing a film they haven't even seen?.
Fucking Stupid.
WithBadIntent 2 years ago
Probably because :
1. The original BBC production has a cult following because of the high standard of acting and writing.
2. Hollywood doesnt exactly have a good record when it comes to reversions.
3. We know what Gibson's like as an actor - so so, but not RSC standard (Bob Peck was - sorry to sound like a snob, but there you go).
and finally for me
the film is pitifully short, which to me says, it will soend zero time on plot and character development. Full enough answer for you?

Bob Peck is such a great actor
so sad he's dead
and i can't believe there's a remake with gibson
so fucking bad
they cannot top the original!

just saw the series - it is absolutely brilliant. bob peck is a genius (may he r.i.p.), so is joe don baker in the role of jedburgh!
gibson and winstone will not anywhere near match the quality of their play. the trailer of the new movie was enough to figure that out. it is awful!
