im looking at gettin reason5 pretty soon for my new comp for mixing recrodings of my band mostly but also wanna attempt at making some dubstep kind of things, can anyone tell me if there is a plug in for programming drum patterns (like ultrabeat on logic) as i fail miserably at putting beats in with a midi keyboard :P
@IamAntyPants The Redrum drum machine in Reason or the Matrix pattern sequencer both could help you program without a keyboard. I use a keyboard for everything but drums. For drums, I use pattern sequencers also because it just makes more sense to my brain. :)
I've had every version of Reason since 1.0 and very much enjoy using it. However its time that the Props guys embed loop slicing into Reason either as a function of the sampler or of Dr. Rex. Kontakt and the Logic Audio sampler do this. Quit making us use ReCycle outside of Reason. You can continue to sell ReCycle separately but for those of us who have licensed both then provide the option to have NN-XT or Dr. Rex do the slicing. This would make the work flow so much better for audio.
If I use my typing keyboard as a midi keyboard it lags by like .06 seconds. (Enough to ruin a song). Should that lag time be virtually eliminated if I use an actual midi keyboard? If so, will USB midi keyboards work?
@RichardfGomes Good question Richard. That lag is called "latency" and latency is always present in every controller and keyboard. However, the latency on a midi keyboard is extremely low. In fact, if you set your sound card to operate in a low latency mode of around 6 milliseconds, it is non-existent essentially. There are many choices for midi keyboards and all of them do a great job, but some offer other features you might want like knobs, faders, drum pads, etc. Good luck and thanks!
Hey, should I need to layer all my instruments 3 or 4 times to get enough depth and punch out of Reason? What do I need to do to get it making loud punchy tunes, I can't figure it out even with the mastering suite presets and not fiddling around too much with stuff. I love the program but I am failing with getting the levels up there compared to FL Studio. I'm slowly going crazy over this. Its like 0db in Reason is half of 0db is FL Studio.

Reason and Pro Tools together produce the best results. Especially with Boom for PT and the Xpand2 synthesizer. Take a look at my Pro Tools Reason setup and video showing how to use the two together.

@OWBProduction That's a commonly used "microphone acoustic shield" made by SE Electronics. Many people have started using them to record vocals since they're effective ways to record quality acoustics in untreated rooms.

@OWBProduction im Bulgarian and its hard to explain but that half pipe thing emulates the studio sound treated booth its blocking the wave of your voice coming back in to the mic reflecting for an example of your bedroom walls in a different time creating a distortion in your vocal or whatever what you are recording ..

Hello, I've never used MIDI software, but I'm just wondering... can you tune each note seperately, so that you can play in any temperement? Or, are all instruments restricted to equal temperament?
the thing that reason lacks, i feel, is a parametric eq... like abletons eq8. or channel eq on cubase/logic. i know it has an eq that you can use, and it is ok, it just is limited slightly, and i just think that it could be improved..there is nothing like a decent parametric eq on each channel for sculpting space in the frequency range of your track. the reverb, and the delay could be worked on also, and the phaser/chorus, hell, next upgrade i am hoping for new up to date fx...heaven!

I got Reason 5/Record 1.5 Bundle at American Music Supply online, but I called and since it was my first order they gave me 50 bucks off, so I got it for 350 and I was able to split it into 3 payments, they just billed my card the first payment, then the next two payments every 31 days. I dont mean to sound like a douche commercial but if ya want the bundle but dont wanna drop a nugget, hit up AMS :)

So, Propellerheads.. Why can't I maximize / run "just the rack" fullscreen like in 0:56 on my Mac Pro with a 24" monitor (1920 x 1200)? THIS would be a killer feature..
At the moment all I can have is a tiny rack in the left 30 % of the monitor (with tiny fonts and knobs) OR just the secuencer fullscreen.

i use ableton,cubase,flstudio, logic, traktor, AND reason...... and hardware too from roland, dave smith,korg,novation, access, moog, motu,behringer, and you know what, as far as i can tell, i would say reason is a DAW FOR REAL.... 3rd party plugins does not make a daw, if it is a digital platform that creates audio and midi tracks for making music, then it is a daw.....its about the music making not wot ya make it on....
@tomaselvis Check out their Pre-Fergie albums. They used to make quality music...musicians actually playing music, interesting chord progressions & harmonies, thoughtful lyrics, etc.

Traktor, Reason and Ableton completely replaced my entire hardware based remix studio of the 90's....
all my groove box's, synths and samplers are now obsolete.....
and instead of my gear taking up a whole room....
I can carry it in my back pack.....

i use ableton,cubase,flstudio, logic, traktor, AND reason...... and hardware too from roland, dave smith,korg,novation, access, moog, motu,behringer, and you know what, as far as i can tell, i would say reason is a DAW FOR REAL.... 3rd party plugins does not make a daw, if it is a digital platform that creates audio and midi tracks for making music, then it is a daw.....its about the music making not wot ya make it on....

@limpworld3 is in the RECORD SOFTWARE there is 2 of them one is black and the other one is red and if you have one of the portable USB Line6 Record wit Reason 5 will load all the patch from the portable USB
