  • 90 years old. No comments.

  • Plante was 10 when Chopin died. He played trios with the cellist Franchomme, a good friend of Chopin's who taught at the conservatory and Alard, violinist. At Chopin's last public performance in Feb. 1848 Chopin performed a Mozart trio with Franchomme and Alard. Plante's technique is just fantastic

  • is this some part of longer movie?

  • @MaslAlek this is from a documentary that aired on PBS around 1999 called The art of Piano. It's available on Amazon. It's a great documentary in my opinion.

  • @MaslAlek It's part of a feature-length, 106-minute documentary called "The Art of the Piano"

  • this is stunning

  • If I can play that impossibly difficult etude when I'm 90 I'll also be very happy! I doubt it, though *sighs.

  • @gerardbedecarter

    If I practise it until I am 90 I might succeed ...

  • beautiful clip, what a strenght that pianist had

  • If I can play like this when I'm 90, I'm happy...

  • ...if I could play like him now... :-/

  • thanks for posting this document! thanks a lot!

  • SANTA CLAUS PLAYS CHOPIN...

  • How long is the actual clip of him playing?

  • Where is this clip taken from? I'd love to see the whole thing.

  • i second!

  • from "the art of the piano."

  • from "the art of the piano."

  • incredible icone. He heard Chopin!

  • You're right!

I think it's like listening to Chopin in a sense...

  • i wish is could have heard chopin play like he did

  • Wish the entire track could be heard well; the narrator is a slight obstacle. Since Plante was a child prodigy, his memory of Chopin's unique sound ... is like the recording here, exactly! I think Hailkayy & Berezovsky on Youtube, capture an impression of this accenting.

  • Absolutely precious. Thank you for posting. I have Plante's available disc recordings, but have never seen him before, let alone in a movie! I can go to sleep tonight a happy man.

  • omg my name is francis plante O_O

  • Brilliant. This is the closest we'll ever get to seeing the old Masters play.
