at what point in time did society go wrong?... to answer my own question, id say it was all very downhill by the mid 90's, at most... now we've hit the bottom, deep in the sludge and i don't think that we'll ever breathe again.

I didnt listen to XTC until "Oranges and Lemons" .......which I thought was brilliant......but sadly......I have found their earlier music sucks in my humble opinion.....I just dont like it.....dont mean to offend anyone.......I wanted their early music to be good.......I just don't think it is
Well you probably don't know a golden rule... Not all music is appealing at first. I should know this if the majority of songs I listen to (And love) didn't appeal to me at first or even bored me out of my mind! And yes, it took me time to like XTC too. Months. However, I like them enough to listen to this song and enjoy it.
I dont know about that......when I first heard "King for a Day" and "Mayor of Simpleton"......I loved them immediately.......but there are songs that did sound better the more I listened to them.....for sure
Yes, There can be songs that you like easily. The more you're into that general style of music the easier it is to get into the song. Take me for example, I was into Nirvana and I was trying to get into a band called The New Pornographers. (Real band) I liked some of their songs already but others were boring me out of my mind. I kept listening to the songs I liked and after a month and a half I started listening to the ones I didn't like, Now they are my favorite band!
Yeah, I like alternative but that's not all I like. I could get into just about any song if I try. Even old country songs by Joe Maphis, Merle Travis and Stringbean appeal to me. I've wanted to check out more R.E.M albums though, Thanks for the recommendation.
Hmm--this version of "This Is Pop" which I've always loved, is much slower and funkier than the one on their debut WHITE MUSIC (which is a great album to get if you're into their work--it's slightly weird, quirky as all get out, and just plain fun as hell to listen to!) Never seen this video either--cool!
XTC and Talking Heads are not fucking comparable. We two comments to get over six thumbs up so that inane comment isn't in the top two anymore.

XTC were the best post punk from 1977 to 1983 they were Amazing. The Talking Heads stole from XTC but they were never as energetic ...
