ya my horse did that. i thougth it was cos of the back sinch but then we tryed a breast collar and now he is fine! i think it was cos the saddle was slipping back as we rode. Beautiflu horse!

yes a saddle can be too small.. the tree can press on the withers and cause preasure and pain, wen running it applys too much preasure causing the horse to feel uncomfrotable so there for the horse will buck, @xxxRodeoluverxxx this horse is beautiful by the way

@kalapariplayer how could a saddle be too small? a saddle size is depending on the rider not the horse, unless it was a large western / stock saddle which then it relies on a larger horse. A saddle can never be "too" small

@HighRewards A saddle can most definitely be too small, there are different sizes in the bars of a saddle. This is not about the seat size, this is about the bars on it. There's not just one fit for horses, some horses are wider, some are narrower. Hence the saddles are different sizes

Were you refering to the back cinch? Because I have never seen any need for one in jumping. Jumping saddles do not have them and if you realy want to learn to jump you should not be using a western saddle.

if the back cinch isnt right up next to the skin a horse can get their leg stuck in it. Some people let it hang because they think a horse will react like bucking horses and their flank straps but its just a accident waiting to happen. They have the cinch right in the vid

My gelding did the same thing when we started training him, everyone told me he would never buck it out, blah blah blah, anyway he is just fine, I just had to keep working with him. You have a beautiful mare on your hands and she looks like she has great potiential. Especially how she almost slid to a stop when you said woah...great job

A " rear cinch" is simply a girth/strap/cinch that goes towards the rear/back of the saddle. It sits behind the actual girth. If you look in my video, you'll noticed a black strap there towards her back legs/flank area? That's the "rear cinch" and it's purpose is to keep the saddle more in place and to keep it from popping up & the saddle from sliding to far forward. :)

I think you need to refrain from yelling when working a young horse. All your attention should be on the horse and nothing else. A softer tone is useful when working the youngins! Poor horse.

Oh don't worry, this mare is 10 years old. She's been in the rodeo scene all her life. From pick-up horse to team penning to barrel racing to western pleasure & halter. She's done allot and I figured she'd be broke to riding with a rear cinch. You'd think a 10 year old rodeo horse would ride with a rear cinch. -l0l- She's also had two beautiful babies.

I agree that some of the methods are great, and it would be nice to see less pain, but the way some of these people get obsessed in it, and less and less tolerant of "different" (though perhaps not painful) methods of riding. A bit, for example, has the potential to be painful, but not in the right hands.
