Good God-- Chester is a beast, what a soulful groovemaster! And for those who queried about the technique, Carlos is playing octaves with a tremolo (double picking), not muting. It is a techinique used in many jazz guitar solos, most especially by Wes Montgomery, one of his heroes. Enjoy!
He is just sliding his pointing finger and little finger accross the strings partly damping the sound of the strings while move the guitar pck over the strings rapidly - he uses this quite a lot. E.g. Jazz guitar players also use this quite a lot.
somebody said that slash was one of the only ones better than santana, and I responded: 'maybe, but santana is more famous because slash must be drunk, passed out on his own urine (face-down) with his ass sticking out into the air,and a huge,black guy (just got out of prison) is giving it to him from behind.' is that a good response or what? hehe
