  • Manson who I think is an asshole.. hahah!

  • this guy needs help

  • @137843 Hes all better now don't worry

  • Trent... Any chance you can grow your hair out and walk around covered in mud, for old time's sake?

  • I've always thought The Fragile was his best album.

  • I literally laughed out loud when it showed Thomas Dolby at 1:05 LOL. i'm a big fan of trent & t. dolby

  • it's funny how different tent razor is when he's coked up or out of his stash...

  • that was actually a pretty awesome interview

  • Anyone else pausing this video every 2 second and trying to identify gear?

  • Brent was balls deep in coke addiction here.

  • @skarvika lol @ brent reznor

  • the reason fragile slipped after the first week is cause it was fucking weak. It took five years for them to make another album and he couldnt have made it good. after pretty hate machine and downward spiral nin sort of fell off but suprisingly year zero had some bangers on there

  • @royalnash I disagree. The Fragile is my favourite album. The reason why it slipped was because the music wasn't as commercially accepted. Your average listener could not appreciate Ripe (With decay), etc. He even said before he released it that it was going to be a lot deeper, and less for commercial use. Look at bands like maudlin of the Well, etc. They fell apart due to lack of funds, not because it was terrible music...but because of people being close minded. I'm not insulting you, btw : P

  • wow they got a lot of shit going on in the studio how the hell does trent know how to operate all of that shit.

  • @royalnash lol

  • That white door on the front was the original from the Tate-Polanski house. As far as the legend goes,Trent, learning from the landlord/owner that the house was about to be demolished, asked him if he could keep the door, which he later installed at his New Orleans studio...wonder if the door still had the "PIG" blood-smeared lettering( Sharon Tate's own ) written on it circa this interview...nah,that would be WAY extra freaky, almost sick,i guess...Get the Helter Skelter book,it's blood-curdling...

  • Does anyone know what song is playing at 2:33? What record is it from?

  • @ktrel54 the song is the wretched from the fragile played live on all that could have been

  • @ktrel54 that is the song The Wretched from The Fragile

  • Everyone ask why I love NIN I then tell them to watch this video. lol Personal Preference: II love the With Teeth album more then the rest. Thats just me though...

  • "Not that I support Manson who I think is an asshole.....(Awkwardness)...Charles that is."

    L0L

  • "trent shesna"

  • charles manson is "an asshole"? you can't come up with stronger language than that, like, say, "evil"?

somebody has an underdeveloped sense of morality.

  • ok everyone look at 518 charles manson flashes up for one sec then flashes off

  • Ummm, cuz he lived in sharen tate's house, where oddly enough she was killed by C. Manson, damn,....

  • he now lives in beverly hills i dont even know if nothing studio is still there after katrina

  • I can relate so much to him, the whole isolating yourself and being alone parts. maybe thats why people can relate so well to his lyrics! i know i do like no other artist!

    thanks for this interview!

  • hey when was this?

  • @kkhani he was working on With Teeth...so i think around '03-'04?

  • 4:25 "The line begins to blur"

  • i know what he means when he talks about his personality being distorted. i am finally getting my personally back together finally

  • 1:31 is Antichrist Superstar record

  • i see like 3 marilyn manson albums XD. cool studio thou

  • Nine Inch Nails never was and never can be a failure.

  • NIN isn't disappearing. Trent himself said so in the Forums... he's just not gonna tour anymore, but he WILL keep making music. YAY!

  • well i am sure he will tour someday again. but like maybe 5 years from now, he will just surprise us.

  • psht, talking down on The Fragile!

    wtf, my favorite album. :-/

  • I do love it as well, it was the first one I bought, and I carried on buying the records when they were released.

  • a snuff film! lol

  • Wow.... i can clearly hear his unique voice :)

  • i wonder if what he says at the end is why nin is gonna disappear for a while...wohhhhhhh

  • yeah, but this was after the fragile man, long time ago. interesting to point out tho

  • Anybody have an idea what year this is?

  • i believe it's 2002.

  • At 5:18, there is a subliminal image of Charles manson. kinda creepy this is.

  • @mattman337

    very.

  • lol, 'we just set this up so you guys think im smart'.

  • The interviewer's name is George Stroumboulopoulos. He now has his own show on CBC (A Canadian station, but does get aired in some border towns in the US). It's a great show, with great guests...like politicans, musicians, and activists. Tom Cruise, Salmon Rushdie, Barbara Walters, Ani Difranco, and Vincente Fox are just some of his guests, including Tom Morello, Adrien Brody, John Cusack, and Sarah Palin. Great show for learning about important people and I obviously highly recommend it!

  • his house is so clean! :) and i love the skull thing sitting on the staircase.

maybe trent reznor should move back to new Orleans, he's noted that he's felt right at home there, and was happy because all the people looked out for each other. he liked it because it was warm there. It suits him better than stuffy LA anyways.

  • he seems so different back then. soo sexy..

  • amazing interview!

  • Holy shit trent loves waldorf gear:

0:43 FOUR waldorf rack-mounted synths (a yellow Q on top, Microwave II/MicroQ/Pulse (?) in the middle, Microwave XT on the bottom)

0:36 A PPG Wave (of all things... sounds beautiful passed through an overdrive/distort)

0:49 A PPG Waveterm A computer/sampler (very ahead of its time... wonder what Trent uses it for?)

    1:00, 1:58 & 3:03 Is that a MicrowaveXTk on the keyboard stand?

Anyway, nice to see where he gets his sound. Great interview thanks :-).

  • "Charles, That is"

    Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Was this destroyed in Katrina?

  • No, the house wasn't destroyed in Katrina. It is in Garden District, there wasn't flood. Actually Trent sold it in march 2005 and moved to LA (for $1,8 million-that's a curious detail ;-) ).

  • you aren't Trent Reznor by any chance are you? :)

  • No, I'm just a big fan ;-)

  • Thankssss!

    Wich year is this??

  • Um, like 1999, 2000. Right after the Fragile was released.

  • This interview is from 2002, around the time AATCHB was released.

  • @xtclueck

AATCHB is from 2002.. so its like 2002

  • @xtclueck 2002 is tagged in my file

  • @xtclueck there are extracts from and all that could have been, this is at least 2002, maybe 2003

  • @necrosifilis 2002 or 2003. AATCHB was already out.

  • one of my favorite vids

thanks for putting it on :)

  • I'm so glad that Trent's clean now!

He dissappeared for 7 years due to drug addiction.

I was afraid we would lose him forever!

We already lost Dimebag Darryl due to murder!

Lets hope that Trent doesn't go before his time too!

  • agree 1000% i've just been in a treznor concert 3 weeks ago, it's just unbelievebable!! tk god for having treznor back!

  • that's not maynard at 1:05 is it? i could be mistaken

  • Nope. Thomas Dolby.

  • so nostalgic. wicked stuff, cheers for the upload. -adam

  • HE LOOKS ANIMAL WITH THE BEARD

  • he's so smart =)

  • keep up the work trent and ignore the haters ur the only band that made it out of the eighties alive and is still going most bands that were made in the 80s are gone now and trent is still here and making the sweetest dame music!

    <--------------------------Die Hard Fan

    <---------Ms. Reznor

  • chili peppers started in 83 and they are still around.

  • but compare last year at leeds festival.

Chilli peppers screwed the set up an were dismal.

NIN... you could almost feel hell and heaven clashing with you in the middle. in a good way, from what i remember, which isnt much.

    perdantic twat

  • i fucking love this man he is just so different from those dame mainstream bands like my chemical romance and panic at the disco they are all fucking wanna bees!! trent is the real deal he is a real god dame artist he really takes pride in his music and always gives his all when he makes his music thats why REAL people love and enjoy his muisc and i know trent is gonna keep making music til he dies and i will be the fucking die hard fan right behind him

  • Agreed 100%!

  • TRENT SHOULD KNOW HE'S THE BEST!! ;)

  • everything trent reznor does is amazing. Pretty hate machine it to mainstream for me to say it is my favorite. Every single one of his albums are my favorite because they are all different in some sort of way. I do like the new ghost album alottttttt! especially ghost III

  • Strombo + Reznor = Joy

  • isn't there a longer version of this somewhere? Maybe that was taken down :/

  • Pretty hate Machine is superb agreed.

The Fragile for me is a favourite for me though.

  • in my opinion his best album would have to be Pretty Hate Machine...though i love all his albums i like Pretty Hate Machine the most

  • I love how everyone thinks trent is high all the time. He admitted he did a lot of drugs in a period of his life, so now everyone "Can tell he's high". Give me a break. you wouldn't have said a thing if he didn't admit to doing drugs in the mid to late nineties

  • Did he say "Snuff Movie" at 5:00? Can somebody tell what exactly did he say?

  • YES HE DID

  • i love him "with teeth style", all awakened, freedom fighter, truth teller...brilliant

  • Year Zero was more like that than with teeth. With teeth was more a transformation of his introspective lyrics into that and then year zero was all political. Everything is political now, he needs to go back to his roots.

  • Did he say "Snuff Movie" at 5:00? Can somebody tell what exactly did he say?

  • They investigated down in it. they found the footage in a field, and they thought that trent was dead. they spent a year trying to find out who the dead person was.. turned out it was just the footage for down in it :P

  • Trent made a Fake snuff movie for the Broken EP you can find it on youtube it's pretty graphic though I'm surprised they actually allow it.

  • NIN forever. ' soudntrack to our darker side ' <-- PERFECTLY said

  • The piano played in the beginning, what song is that from???

  • that's the outro of 'closer'

  • manson's an asshole.

    Charles that is hahaha..

    Cool Reznor!

  • LOL

  • thanks

  • Whats that Marilyn manson video at 5:41?

  • its starfuckers inc by NIN

  • for whoever asked about the video at 5:41

  • cool name ;)

  • Did he say "Snuff Movie" at 5:00? Can somebody tell what exactly he say?

  • he said just that..."if there is a snuff movie, i wanna see it". he's talking about how he's always been attracted to the darker side of society.

  • snuff movie. yes.

  • trent is perfect ♥

  • whats the song at 6:12-6:32???help

  • we're in this together now

  • Jesus that Eminem clip at 4:15 is hilarious. It makes him look like he is having a seizure, not to mention a moron. Trent you are not alone man, and millions of people love ya.

  • I feel lame because I have this crazy obsession with Trent Reznor...

like how some 13 year old girl is obsessed with Justin Timberlake

  • Man, I'm right there with you, trust me.

And I think it's funny The Fragile was deemed a failure by some, being the NIN fanatic I am, it's probably my favorite album.

  • I'm with you too. I love The Fragile! Am old and love Trent way too much. He cancelled his show here and I was upset for weeks. Weird.

  • I know what you mean, I really need to grow up *lol*

  • @yeahyeahhuckabees you and me, both lol

  • Trent is a phantastic musician. Nevertheless on Fragile there are some lame songs as well as some really great ones. I think Trent - just like the WIRE guys - does the things he really wants to do and he does them just the way he likes - and not what others want or like. Hang loose!

  • Exactly. He makes what he wants, and thats what makes him the best musician out there.

  • hah some songs on the fragile lame... i call your bluff, name one.

  • What?

    Dude.

I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally was about the death of his grandmum. And Even Deeper wasa pretty kick ass song.. as are all the others on the list. Man. Harsh.

  • ha yeah sorry you named some of the best songs off that album, not the worst.

  • I love this man! The fragile is a beautiful album and will remain one of my favorites forever!!! I know he's changed a lot but this is the nature of life! it was woderful seeing his life unfold!

  • Funny how he mentions starting a family, i was just thinking today that Earth needs a Trent Reznor Jr.

  • Ooh.. xD

    Good Idea!!

  • I volunteer my services. xD

  • lol what i meant to say was 'sad'

  • I like the fragile more than YZ and WT

  • even though he has gone to make two more albums, and may be in the process of creating a tv/movie based on his latest, what he said at the end of the interview seems kind of sound. NIN Rules!

  • Pure genious artistry

  • THeEraSerr:"lol what i meant to say was 'sad'"

  • Love it

  • good interview. seems like hes a bit out of sorts though. i think this was done right before he sobered up, probably just after the release of "and all that could have been".

  • AMAZIN

  • Does he still work at Nothing Studios, or did he give it up entirely? I know the hurricane caused some damage and he lives in L.A. now, but does he still have this? It looks like a pretty cool place. I've seen many funeral homes and thought about how they would make cool studios, all because of Trent's. Or maybe cool clubs. Very eerie and wild. If they can turn a church in N.Y. to a club then y not a funeral parlor?

  • Haha.

I love that little 'FUCK YOU MARILYN MANSON' he slipped in there xD

  • Trent and I are reworking old-school WAX-trax right now. .. No Booze! .. But Lots of LSD! .. AND METH!!.. I allways had a band, he was allways studio. .. We Are going to kick ass with this project!

  • wtf?

  • Those of you posting shitty comments, just grow the fuck up. I can't even believe why you waste minutes of your life watching this vid and posting crap!!! HA. HA . HA. Makes me laugh. I guess you guys don't have a life but hey, at least Trent does. You guys are so sad.

    NIN RULES & HATERS DROOL.

  • you people are talking bullshit.

anyways, tis a good interview, he mustve felt uncomfortable by sharing his personal feelings here, though.

  • You're a fucking ignorrant asshole.

  • Do all rapists have beards? I don't understand your comment...

  • oh god yeah! lol

  • i think hes awsome, but hes one of the most deppresing people ive ever seen

  • Not now.. he isn't as depressed as he used to be. He got off the drug train.

  • 5'o clock shadow

  • Fragile is the best record in the last 15 period.

  • Trent is a very attractive man- but does anyone else think he looks like a rapist with the beard?

  • i am sure there are rapists without beards :/

  • a friend of mine said he met him here in the french quarter where i live and trent told him to fuck off, this was 2003 i think, but hey, were all human

  • did you recently meet him? or is it a long time ago?

  • ive met trent a couple of times, and he is a very cool dude. i also think he is very modest, considering how talented he is and the level of fame hes reached.

  • hmm that's really cool dude. did you actually get to talk to him??

  • I have this interview on tape. It was a very troubling interview. Trent was just getting out of that whole Fragility era. He looked tired. I'm glad he got sober. Especially from the new tracks that just appeared for "Year Zero".

  • and? you're jealous?

  • its bad enough paying out jews...but not trent too :O

  • lol you're all so sad. who gets this worked up over other people's opinions? Like what you like and stfu. You all should slit your wrists lol.

  • that's a good points. a jew owns mtv.

  • dude ur a fuckin prick. if u dont like nine inch nails then why the fuck are u watching this video u fucktard

  • all of you talking shit about the fragile or anything nine inch nails are ignorant morons. anything and everything trent reznor has ever put out is pure gold. the albums, the remixes, the videos, & the concerts are amazing. i feel sorry for u idiots that can't seperate the great from the garbage.

  • oh and the fragile is too damn whiney. The tour sucked as well, it was embarrassing just to listen to, after the last three tours, which rocked, specifically Pretty Hate Machine. It was like he had become impotent

  • idiot

  • get a life you losers. The fragile was, is, and always will be his worst effort, watered down, lacklustre, uncertain of it's own sound and direction, just like Trent during those days. He'll admit it, ask him. Obsessed fans, get a life, you're so on Trent's dick that you can't tell diamonds from fecal matter.

  • I loved The Fragile. Sure, as an album it is weak and there are quite a fair few songs that are... well... mad dodgfest. But there are some real gems there that I think are among TR's best.

Although, I have to admit, I like the way he is going now much more... and pre-Fragile TR too. The album is just about as messed up as he was during the time.

  • idiot

  • Wow. Your name does give a good idea of the situation. You're in an error state, you lie. Trent said himself that critical success and commercial success is pretty different. On his site, he said on a forum that he was content with The fragile.

  • the fragile sucks because he was too obsessed with accumulating material possessions gear and wasn't focused enough on the spiritual side of music-making/creativity which is the most important part of the equation.

  • you dont have to adore or even like it but anyone saying 'the fragile sucks' is disrespecting music in general.

  • hahahaha!

  • i love trent .. but i dotn think he looks good with a beard ...

  • I want to wire all of those effects pedals together (as they lie) and plug a guitar into one end and strum a chord. Question is; what end to hook up to?

  • I've always liked this guy. He's got a lot to offer music wise and he's just an honest person who has very cool tastes in houses to live in!

I don't have to wonder what he's made of, I see and feel it in all that he writes about...situations that we've all been in at some point in life.

  • it's not a home , it's nasa

  • Omg!.. This is the first time i saw the inside of nothing studios. I've been waiting to see this, but only if it was longer. Anyways iam a die hard fan, of all of Trent Reznor's creative work and I respect him greatly... and it also doesn't mind that his extremely sexy.(signs)

::love to all the nine inch nails fans::

  • Thanks for sharing, amazing interview....

  • Where is the rest of the interview?? It suddenly stops.

  • I agree the Fragile is a work of art! I don´t know which album I like more Fragile or the Spiral...Fragile is more complex but...

  • the fragile was a reznor masterpiece... from the industrial into the void to the melodic masterpiece la mer... fuck you if u dont like it
