  • wtf!!! shit men!! thats incredible...

dont u realize this is a step for virtual reality? imagin a GTA IV that u can move urself with the hand!, FK FK FKF FK how to make this?

  • @inmortalstudios It's made in flash, which is pretty exclusively 2D, so no chance of a GTA hand movement...OH WAIT

Project Natal. Look it up. And this technology has been around for a while.

  • Which camera are you using?

  • @jamescherry0123 Just the MacBook Pro eyesight cam.

  • great... fun too. not just cool.

  • which camera you have used for this?

  • Can you please make a tutorial on how to do this?

  • that is sooo cool man, one question; does it let you pick up the ball, like let one finger and the other finger around the ball to let you lift the ball up? i know thats silly to ask but im curious to know if it has that kinda capability?

  • Not a silly question @ all. In fact the next logical step, right? Camera as a user interface is a rather interesting but difficult task. The only way I can think of is to track a specific color. Think reverse green screen. User has to have, say lime green sticker or dot on index and thumb. Then we could put the game in track mode, pick up (sample) the color and then use it to "stick" the ball to rather than repel it. Rapid acceleration could then trigger release and off it goes. Just a thought.

  • not a bad idea mentanurb, it could work in sum gameplay scenarios you know. it could be like this motion controller thing like in the e3 where you use gestures and other movements to move stuff around on screen :) why buy a natal when you make one out in flash hehehe.

  • where id u learn this?

  • Not really from any definitive source. It's just the result of experimenting.

  • Great stuff! Where might I find a tutorial outlining the principles of what's going on here? I've done some basics in AS3

  • How do u make the camera move in a game with flash instead of the character or the background?

  • Not sure I understand the question.

  • I'm trying to create a game and i need the camera (the screen when playing) to move to certain areas. Like at x and y. But i can't figure it out.

  • It seems like the ball reacts before it meets your hand . Is this a lag between the camera and the rendering of the movie?

  • For that particular test I had just increased the physical size of the ball and forgot to change the code that sets the radius var of the ball, it was 10pix off.

  • I'm guessing you're a pro....

  • Well I make a living with Flash, but I would not class myself as a Pro, in the sense I am anything special. This stuff has been done by others. Just my take.

  • hmmm..very creative and interesting stuff man! good job, will look more into it!

  • Thanx dude.

  • Yea, I can code pretty good. I designed a book for kids that has a CD ROM that is all flash. You can see some on my myspace page, but yes, I would like to know how you did it!

  • This is first off, best done in AS3 for speed reasons. You need a video cam or webcam, I use a video cam for better quality. The app takes the output from the cam, pipes it into a BitmapData object. The BitmapData getPixel method is used to check the pixel color data against the cam feed. Any changes are flagged and changed to a green with unchanged set to black. This image is hidden and the green pixels are used for Point(x,y) class. This is then ran through another class that measures the...

  • distance between them and the dynamic ball, (just the old 101 bouncy ball physics). the result is simple. Instead of using your mouse coords or a bat or whatever, you use the x,y info from the green pixels. If you look at the last video I did, you can see I added more balls and a score.

I then projected this onto the wall using a basic projector and my kids could jump around the room smacking virtual balls on the wall. It was fun.

  • if this is real, how did you do it?

  • Yes it's real. I know it seems like it could be faked, but it's not. If you have some programming knowledge and would really like the long story, let me know. See some of my other videos on the subject.
