@ardbastard I agree there sir.I think the Phil of the 1990s would have been alot more of a threat to the Phil of the last 5 years and def a shadow of his former self due to age,Alchol and drug abuse among the mental and emotional toll taken on him.I think the character is beginging to wind down now.
yeah but he was afraid to fight johny in december 2005 wasnt he and he had a brick with him to hit johny because he was not able for him in a fair fight and i remember one episode after sam had left and phil went for johny and he was way to slow for him and last week he had to bring a baseball bat around to beat up christian because he was not able for him without a weapon.
@mm91ie Phil certainly isn't the physical threat he once was, his age has certainly caught up with him. However, I doubt that Johnny would take Phil & as for Christian, Phil didn't want to stand around trading blows with him, he wanted to do him some damage & so went & got a baseball bat - why merely trade punches with a guy that you think has abused your child, you wouldn't. I don't no how old you are but the Phil that's been in the show for the last 5 years is a shadow of the Phil of old.
reply to ardbastard , but the reason he got dennis to beat up johny was because he was not able for johny himself, i remember he went for johny a couple of times and he was to slow for him and johny laughed at him and phil is not a hardman he is a fat coward who is good at beating up twirps like ian beale.
@mm91ie Phil locked himself in with Johnny in Johnny's mansion remember & it was Johnny who was the more nervous as I recall. Phil was wiery of Johnny because Johnny was a proven remorseless killer & Phil has never proved he is capable of cold-blooded murder, & I'm not sure he could do it. Phil will do his own dirty work if neccessary - he was very close to taking a brick to Johnny that night but was disturbed by Peggy - but if you can manipulate someone to do it for you, then why wouldn't you?
no i did not get it wrong when dennis and phil went into the arches dennis was up for a proper boxing match while phil immediately picked up a weapon and then his heavies came in phil hit dennis again on christmas day he punched him in the stomach when dennis was not looking and dennis wanted to hit him back but den watts told him to leave it, and phil got dennis to beat up johny when he himself was not able for him, i remember phil went for johny one day and he was to slow for him.
@mm91ie I had this debate with my girlfriend who said Phil was wrong for manipulating Dennis to beat-up Johnny, but I disagreed. I think it'd do exactly the same as Phil - Dennis was leaving, & Phil thought I'll get Dennis to do this & he & Sharon will be long gone & out of the way & Johnny will be taken care of & I never needed to get my hands dirty. Dennis dug his own grave by throwing Johnny the phone, it wasn't Phil's fault - Dennis screwed-up. Phil did betray Sharon though & that was wrong.
ardbastard dan and phil had three physical altercations and dan dominated him each time and when phil won back the vic from dan in a game of poker he had to get a heavy in to throw dan out.phil is a coward he just catches people off guard he is not a proper hard man like grant and dan, i remember dennis rickman challenged phil to a fight and he chickened out.
@mm91ie I think you got it wrong with the Phil & Dennis showdown - Phil was willing to fight him when Dennis first confronted him in the Vic's cellar, but Dennis suggested they do it somewhere more private. Phil wasn't scared of Dennis he hit Dennis a number of times after that pre-arranged fight you speak of. The point of Phil calling-in some muscle to sort Dennis out was to teach Dennis a lesson & Phil making a point that Dennis cannot pull his strings. Phil was harder than Dennis, just about.
@mm91ie I agree that Dan could take Phil. You are right, Phil was never able to out-muscle Dan & when he tried to over-power him outside the hospital to force him to give back the pub, Dan counter-acted Phil's attack & had him pinned against a wall. Even Grant had trouble restraining Dan in the Vic when Dan was trying to batter Ricky because Ricky was goading him, after Dan & Bianca's affair came to light. Dan was hard, & only Grant was harder - man, what an epic battle those two would've had.
why does he not stand up to phil he is way taller than him, it is so stupid the way everyone cowers against phil he is not that tall and is more fat than muscular and proper hardmen like dan sullivan dominated and showed him up for the coward and bully he is.
@mm91ie Dan was hard, I agree. Phil & Dan would've been a good scrap & Dan could've possibly won it. After Grant, Dan was my fave character. Phil was alot harder in the 90's, as he was alot younger, quicker & fitter, but he's abit passed it now. Although, Phil is an ex-boxer & an experienced-brawler that is still more than capable of hitting someone hard & at the moment there is no one in the Walford capable of being a worthy adversary. Phil's a bully, yeah, but not a coward.
It was sometime in 1993 after Grant got out of prison, a year before sharongate as in Phil and Sharons affair revealed. And the year Peter and Lucy were born and the year Pete Beale was supposadly killed off screen.
@Georgeous129 Think Ian had the last laugh though, cos he dug some dirt on Tricky Dicky and he ended up leaving Walford under bit of cloud, just how he arrived really.
lol "Yeah, we know you been sayign thigns about mum" Ian. "Oh pelase!" TD "Yeah?! You won`t be laughing when we do ya for slander" Ian "yeah...do me for assault instead" SMACK!
interestingly this is the same episode where pauline finds out arthurs being up to naughties with mrs hewitt and smacks him with the frying pan!!! (Sept/Oct 1993????)
