They know that the western populous supports them, they know that because they are hoisting it's banner; freedom, democracy, choice -- all that good stuff. This is no longer the age when a poorly equipped mob can topple a government or peaceful protests topple iron curtain regimes. What Iran needs is a leader of the people to step up, and for him to be able to carry out the wish of the people, with force if necessary.

LotN2 - this is nothing to do with the USA. The USA don't really know how to react to these protests. They were making overtures to talk to Ahmadinejad/ Khamenei before, and were prepared to carry on.
But the people of Iran spoke. They want freedom. Its not about religion as such - religious Iranians are protesting too. Support the protestors - they want representative leaders, not ones that are unaccountable.
Sign the petitions, join the facebook groups, support the Iranian people.

it's not that noone gives a damn about what happens in Iran, it's that there is no framework in place to deal with situations like this. noone has the authority to put the Iranian leaders on trial, there is a world court, but it's iffy at best, and not every country recognizes it, so it really has no authority. to add to that is the problem of sovereignty ... i mean, what if growing neonazi sentiment arose in Germany to topple the government which, in their view "opressed" them?

color revolutions, as i said the product of CIA and State Department, were in Czech republic, Serbia, Ukraine, Georgia, and Kyrgistan. every time the scenario was like in Iran now. after loosing elections the opposition accuses the government of fraud and organizes street violent demonstrations. following this general scenario opposition succeded to overtake power in all those countries. but, except for Czech republic, final outcome was regrettable.
