Moby Dick has a spool, making it understeer like crazy on cold tires. However, it was designed for the Le Mans, not for twisty tracks. Moby Dick wasn't a very successful racer and it looks like mr. Ortelli isn't trying to win a race here, he's obviousely trying to keep an extremely rare 800+ bhp monster in one piece while enjoying driving Moby Dick. Rare footage of an extraordinary Porsche, thumbs up!
0 driving skills... bad steering, even worse downshifting & no idea on how to keep revs up to make sure the engine is inside it's power band when exiting curves. Poor Moby...
Oh don't worry about the talent of the driver , driving a 935 is already something very difficult , but driving it on a circuit with a lot of very expensive car is worse , so he's not taking a lot of risks . You can't see on the strait part that he's not full throtle , and the turbo lag on those car can be very ( VERY ! ) dangerous ..
I think the apparent lack of pace is down to the settings, he's much quicker in a straight line but not so fast round the corners, probably le mans settings or something.
The few numbers of the third and final version of the 935 named "Moby Dick" are made for only the characteristics of the "La Sarthe" racetrack /aka Le Mans/.
@TylerStump1 To reduce turbulance and to promote good airflow. Judging from the vents around their circumference, I'd imagine they would also help to improve brake disc cooling by drawing in concentrated air as the car travels at speed.
well the car seems to work fine and the driver also seems to be experienced..!I think the setup in the front is a bi wrong or maybe some downforce issues...!!!but as everybody saying it looks and sounds great...!!!
@dutchm4n11 Nothing to do with the car. It's aerodynamics were ahead of its time.! The missing component was either Jacky Icx, Derek Bell, Vic Elford, Walter Rohrl or me of course ;)
@sonicstep i'm aware that this car was ahead of its time as you say but i meant that the setting on that wasn't suitable for this track..i didn't mean to offent the car in any way....!! :D
@dutchm4n11 I was referencing your considered downforce issues, which is 'plural' not singular. If you meant rear wing angle adjustment say, I would not really consider that a problem as it is not a design issue, but never mind.
Respond to this video... I don't know if there is a problem with this car. Stephane Ortelli is a very good driver and won a lot of races. Maybe you are right that he is just taking his time and nothing else.
@mssb1975 Yes it looks and sounds great. Not quite sure why you are defending the driver performance. Is it an endurance race? Usually when you allow a bunch of cars to go by you on the start and then on the first few laps it is that you have a mechanical problem. Drivers do not allow themselves to be overtaken so easily even in an endurance race. Sure they might not put up a big fight, but this guy is going backwards. Maybe the car was not working well although it sounds OK.
@Trackstar2211 what I ment is that all of them shall have to pit once, some will brake down etc,... The real race starts later on, in an endurance first you got to survive the first half...
Oh ok thanks man, I thaught it was a ferrari. Is it just me, or did anyone notice the driver in the Porsche was really trying to make sure the ferrari did not beat the Porsche, he might of been able to keep it behind if he did not overshoot the turn at 8:35.Great video though man. Thanks for not putting some gino beat with this . Its nice to see that not everyone out there is an idiot

...dude. This car (if it's an original and not a copy) is one of only TWO ever made. It's 30+ years old. The owner(s) have a lot of ...courage, to even take this thing out on the track with other (less priceless) classic racers running around, some with wealthy amateurs behind the wheel. Would YOU hang it all out in that situation??

An exercise in loosing places. Shame a great car does not have a great driver.
Trackstar2211 5 months ago
@Trackstar2211 you might want to consider this is an endurance race, so your position after the 5th lap doesn't say that much...
sammieboj 5 months ago
@sammieboj As a racer I consider loosing several places, not hitting the apex and basically cruising a poor effort. But that just me.

most tracks are driven clockwise, better balance when the driver seat is on the right side.
