When I first encoutered the pirates at 1:24, I said, "Oh, these are easy".

Then,

BAM!! it kicked me and started flipping around like chun-li!

There is no left ledge. Just one platform in the center of the room with two big walls to triangle jump off of.

He's referring to the fact that if you stand as far to the left edge of the platform as possible while Ridley does the tail pogo attack, you can load a ton of super missiles or charged plasma beams into him without retaliation .
