  • Hello I'm french, could somebody translate "for you touched the distant sands" he says in @1:52 !

GoogleTranslation is too bad ! -_-

    Thanks !

  • @SteffOush I guess it's a reference to all the travels he made to far away lands..so he touched distant (far away) sands(lands)!

  • @SteffOush c'est comme dire; tu a touché les sables lointains

  • I care about Rupert Giles, thank you very much.

  • @GeneGenie81 i dont know any of these people. every once in a while i just pick out a person that does an annoying thumps up comment and say that, because you have to admit it, its lame. I actually think its fair enough if someone mentions who brought you here, but asking for thumbs is bad. Granted, not as bad as some of those copy/pasted comments everyone seems to post.

  • @GeneGenie81 stop trying to get thumbs up, its pathetic.

  • Yes!!! Giles also listend to the song again after Joyce's death in the episode after "The Body".

  • @gemdre Yeah, that was a really sad part of Season 5 :(

  • i never noticed how raunchy this song was.. or is it me

  • Just returned from Nam. Song blew my mind as we always altered our consciousness in some way. This became our stateside unit song. Those were the days. Glad I returned home alive but full of mischief and countercultural

  • @maveric23100 well, it might be you. Read the Odyssey and you will see all the references. I'm glad you came back from Nam. Many of my friends did not.

  • when i was about five years old in london, my father sat me down and said, ''there will be so many great albums you will hear in life... but none will ever compare to this.''

he carefully placed the needle down in the vinyl disc. it wavered up and down-my bordem grew, as i waited for the track to start... and the enigma started.

i am now thirty-eight and there is no other group that comes close to being as remarkable as cream. thank you for the best damn childhood, dad.

  • useing my bong insted of an air guitar fuck yaaAAA!!!

  • It's not even cold in here. A shiver just ran up my back and my nipples got hard. Carry on.

  • Totally bitchen song to dance to.. OH YEAH!!!! And love, love the lyrics!

  • This fantastic song was always playing in my '72 Charger!!

  • 12 people fell overboard...

  • @timberwolf555 Going after the sirens.

  • fuck yes!

  • my husband did that sorry

  • F----ing timeless

  • modern music isn't that bad, i mean check out the sheepdogs

  • If Buffy the Vampire Slayer did nothing else for this world it introduced a bunch of snot-nosed brats to one good song.

  • @mattymath1 and inspired people not to commit suicide. Seriously dude, Buffy is awesome, and the show's taste in music is just one of many reasons.

  • I saw the cream preform this classic at the forum at the goodbye cream tour , what a great , great group , and they could do it live . love all the underated studio songs from wheels of fire , jack bruce was a musical genius ..... still goin strong

  • Comment removed

  • who the hell is rupert giles me i was bought here by only one band Cream and the summer of 68 what a great time

  • @dragonfire19111 me too, 1968 was epic with this song off if Wheels of Fire, and voodoo child and all along the watchtower released on Experience Hendrix and Born To Be Wild on Steppenwolf's debut album amongst several other cream of the crop rock n roll songs in that year.

But to answer your question, Rupert Giles is Buffy's watcher on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, he was listening to this on episode 6 of season 3, episode called Band Candy. great show, funny episode.

  • Cream really knew how to weave sensibility, intensity, the best guitar solos ever, into a tapestry, tale of awesomness and the true soul of what Rock should be.

Thumbs down for pussies asking for thumbs up. They are just faking it.

  • Never thought Giles would bring me to Cream. Thanks Ripper!

  • cream is the drug for you

  • Rupert Giles, you have some very nice taste in music!

  • entourage!!

  • they rocked to the ultimate!!!!

  • One of my favorite songs !!!

  • wheres my acid dealer

  • "And you see your girls brown body....... dancing through the turquoise......and her footprints make you follow.....where the sky loves the sea"

  • Exact same beat as White Room lol..

  • I didn't believe in god, and then someone gave me this thing, like a magical book that told me there was a god! Because we have to believe what is written down. And thank Clapton that it was written on the side of a wall that "Clapton is God," else I'd be one lost soul.

  • once you kids experience a little more life, the loss and the hope and slight insanity that follows it, you'll be able to better appreciate great music such as this

  • @greasyzach I do appreciate it already.

  • 12 people opened the bag of winds to early.

  • I love "The Lick"!!! It's fairly easy to play on Guitar too.

  • oh to be 19 years old back in '68 again...

  • @BettyBoopLover333 I'll go back with you. I'm 17 now and... want me some 60's XP

  • is this song about the odssey?

  • @TMLorfing yes ulysses is another name for Odysseus

  • Clampton has more of an edge ... when I think of john mayer I can only think of a bunch of girls getting wet. John Mayer is way too pussy for me. And to this I canz trip balls. so suck on tht

  • God is laughing at the John Mayer remark

  • How can anybody compare John Mayer to Clapton. I bet John Mayer wouldn't even dare.

  • You know this would make a great reality video. You know...take the context of the song and put it in the video. "Tiny purple fishes go laughing thru you fingers". I would love to see this plus all of the song in a video. Just trip out and blend it all together. I think they should do this to a lot of songs personally. There are some great 3d graphic computer artists that can probably do a very good job.

  • I am so sicker than sick of Eric Clapton after 4 decades now, but CREAM was LEGENDARY! Clapton is no longer GOD, that title now belongs to John Mayer, but you cant get tiny purple fishes that run laughing through your fingers in todays music.

  • @tiredironrepair John Mayer, hah!

  • @tiredironrepair John mayer aint GOD yet son, respect the legend

  • @DJBBQ John Mayer makes Clapton look like a NOVICE

  • @tiredironrepair Haha, fun guy (y)

  • @tiredironrepair Oh Hey there John Mayer, didn't know you had a YouTube profile, I first thought it was an idiot who compared you to Eric Clapton, heh. And I think you got the date wrong, it's not 1. April

  • if the sirens sound like clapton's guitar i really want my naked ears to be tortured

  • OH WOW AM I dreaming... or just?... Loving this song!

  • @nudaydawning i like this comment = )

  • excellent, great music. love cream

  • Great rock song with a beautiful lyrics about the greatest epic of our culture.

  • Buffy brought me here.

  • oh , music! =D

  • who's the painting by? muscular men (like me) trying to get on with rowing while women with arse cracks that would put Pippa to shame try to interrupt them

  • they nailed Homer (not Simpson) with Bruce and Ginger Tosser in tow

  • 12 people succumbed to the sirens

  • @emgeorge105 LOL Great insight...they turned Pete into a horny toad! O Brother where art tho.

  • Relax and enjoy the music instead of rambleing about shit you really only pretend to know something about.

  • It was said that this song was the first time the Cry Baby was used in a commercial song.

Eric Clapton probably made the Cry Baby what it is today.

  • great visual to go with this amazing song. thanks for the background on martin sharp -- these lyrics are way ahead of pretty much anybody else was writing with the exception of dylan and paul simon. perfect song for cream -- still remember the first time i heard it...wow!

  • lawl honest to God the first time i heard this song was on the band candy episode of buffy the episode when giles was mentally reverted back into a teenager....he was jammin out with the whole air guitar thing goin on...lol

Buffys Mom (also mentally a teenager): "Do you like Seals and Crofts?"

    Giles: *pointed stare*

Buffys mom: "*nervous laugh* yeah me neither..."

  • @mandy199422 that's what brought me here lol, i heard this song and wanted to listen to it

  • @mandy199422

Me to lol I love that episode!

But the best is when giles plays it to remember Joyce after she dies

  • i want a crimson shell

  • This song bears a close resemblance in terms of meter and even certain lines to Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne", agree or disagree?

  • Try Trouble's cover. Vocals not as good, but they put a nice spin on it.

  • pure fucking brilliance

  • Comment removed

  • wah wah wah wah wah...gotta love that sound

  • ginge baker was pill poping fool

  • they so had their drug and woman habit under control that they collectively poo pooed Hendrix when he died.....never mind the seventies and the eighties and the whenever or whatever

  • Rupert Giles' favorite song...

  • how the fuck have I not heard this before

  • @KolYma89 Well how old are you...maybe thats the reason.

  • THOSE IS SOME SEXY MERMAIDS, SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR.

  • this song wins so hard

  • That drumming is so good, I think I've got gingivitus!

  • Also for earlier arguments:

"You know a lot of people are into hard drugs…they dont really realize how much they are playing with their bodies, their lives, and their natural abilities that they are born with. Let me tell you, you don't need that stuff to get into music. Music is the finest high around." -Herbie Hancock

  • I am still drawn to the sea...still looking for my Aphrodite.

  • I was 15 when this came out was concidered very cutting edge it sounded great then and still does

  • This song is so cool, love it. i wish people still made this kind of music!

i actually got the song from the Buffy-series.. haha

  • I remember tripping hard coming home from work listening to this on my cd player LOL and I had a vision of this girl dancing naked

  • rock version of Leonard Cohens "Suzanne"

  • @nudaydawning

Typical music snob? I listen to all kinds of music, from early ragtime from before your grandmother was born to rap from the 90s. The earliest recordings we have to now and everything in between, from to jazz to classical to blues to rock, reggae and all that good stuff. I can guarantee you that my musical tastes are far more varied and much wider than yours. And what is the point of arguing over it? Just because I don't like artists that you do I'm a snob? Maybe its vice versa

  • @SqueezeMyLemonBabe

do you like the grateful dead or phish?

  • Who has made the picture of the video??

  • @14ManuChao

The painting is by Herbert James Draper, titled "Ulysses and the Sirens" (1909)

Sirens can lure men to their death by singing. Ulysses was told by Circe (greek goddess, daughter of Helios) to fill his men's ears with wax so they could not hear the singing, and to bind himself to the ship's mast so he could not break free. When he heard them he fell under their spell and tried to break loose, but his men would not untie him, so they safely passed the siren's island.

  • @SabbeleuDesigns It is awesome! I will ask my tutor about it tomorrow. Thank you

  • @SqueezeMyLemonBabe I know you uploaded this and I am grateful for that, but for the love of god please don't talk about rap on this comment page. This is hallowed ground man!

  • @HamsterFueledRocket Hahaha, point taken and agreed.

  • @HamsterFueledRocket

You realize how ignorant you sound right now? Someone like Madlib or Aesop Rock are just as musically talented or poetically versed. Just different cultures and times, not to mention the influence of bands like Cream.

  • @jgrizwald Piss off

  • @HamsterFueledRocket

    Just saying...

  • amazing song!! still remember my dad playing this on his record player, rocking out!

  • why was music sooooooo good back then?

  • Thats a cool pic, I just read that part in the book. Love the song :)

  • I'm confused....which came 1st, this, 'White Room', or 'Sunshine of Your Love'?!

  • @tphoyas "Tales of Brave Ulysses" and "Sunshine of Your Love" were both released in 1967. "White Room" was released in 1968.

  • Rupert Giles has a great taste in music

  • @MacJaxonManOfAction Hell yeah, Cream, The Who and Lynyrd Skynyrd

  • Comment removed

  • @MacJaxonManOfAction : agreed.

  • @tapeduk

The answer was given 4 weeks ago by EyeLean5280:

"Ulysses and the Sirens" by Herbert James Draper.

  • much better song than White room, not that White room is a bad song, I just like this one better

  • 11 people's ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing.

  • 11 dislikes that never tripped before..open your tiny mind

  • Top tune, epic.

  • Martin Sharp is the unsung hero of cream but very much the best part of the band imo.

  • @CaptainHellblaze I Wikipedia'ed Martin Sharp and he was and is a very creative, interesting guy. Go to Cream - Making of Tales of Brave Ulysses. It shows him talking about how he wrote the lyrics and gave them to Clapton before he knew him. He did both the "Disraeli Gears" and "Wheels Of Fire" covers too. Very talented guy!!! But it's like apples and oranges. Comparing Cream and him is impossible. They simply complemented each other.

  • Such a shame... 11 people don't want to take the tiny purple fishes that run laughing through their fingers to the hard land of the winter. Poor little purple fishes.

  • whats the name the photo ?

  • @stp1954, it's a 19th century British painting, "Ulysses and the Sirens" by

    Herbert James Draper

  • 11 people let the leaden winter bring them down forever.

  • Clapton was in Greece for a year in the mid 60s.

  • Lovely clear, even rolls from "Ging"!

  • yes great musiccccccccccc

  • "Cocaine is a helluva drug"

  • wicked kool whipped to a frenzy cream,,,!!

  • Greatest lyrics ever.

  • 11 people should probably kill themselves.

    Cream FTW!

  • @crackhead2006 your a nasty lil crackhead

  • right after we read the book the odysey, my teacher made us listen to this and analyze the meaning of the video. we all confused as being related to the book, yes i know it is not realy related but right after we uncover the "meaning" i just cant stop listening to it

  • I must have been born naturally stoned. I never did any drugs, and I remember this song being played by my older brothers when I was 4 (DOB 09/12/1968) and loving it.

  • @22reTOYOTA hahaha your a youngin but yes this is good stuff my dear

  • @sundance4400 Well I caught the 70s and the 80s! Two out of three aint bad.

  • @22reTOYOTA What a great bother you have!

  • @richard57watson Thanks, They both broadend my horizons quite a bit growing up in the 70s.

  • best song right here

  • la cream rifa ahah y la rola sta bn sexosa ahaha

  • Oye me gusta mucho CREAM pero me gustaria saber el nombre de esa pintura tan bonita

  • I was in Wales on acid listening to this video last year, and we couldn't tell wether the picture was moving or not lol

  • @jakedogz what the name of the picture?

  • @jakedogz Man i'm sober and I can't tell lol.

  • 10 people have no music in their soul.

  • yea mermaids don't have vaginae anyway?

  • Clapton's parents wanted to name him Epic but typo'd the birth certificate, oh well we all know the truth :)

  • @90Randy90 haha good shit man

  • @90Randy90 Actually, his real name is Jehova.

  • windows moviemaker = dislike

    great song = like x2

    it's like x1

  • windown moviemaker -> dislike

    great song -> like x2

    it's +1

  • Can anyone tell me if this song is really about the Ulysses?

  • One of the most psychodelic song from Cream discography.

When I listen this song I always remember Greece islands, coasts, legends...

  • So. . .let me get this straight: YouTube removed another video of this song, claiming

that it was because of nudity? Do they not understand that this artwork is a representation of a scene from The Odysssey? And we wonder why our children

    aren't learning. . .
