  • I've never saw this movie but it looks interesting. I didnt know Spiller was his name

  • i love the movie

    plus the song

  • Arrietty and Spiller sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N....

    Arrietty and Spiller: SHUT UP!

  • I saw this movie with my host family in the theatre in Japan when it came out three years ago. Just listening to this song brings back such memories... Miyazaki's movies truly are beautiful creations.

  • God I love Miyazaki films. He is getting old though ): I personally think this movie is the closest Miyazaki film in recent memory to the "great" Miyazaki films in my opinion. (Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime, Howell's Moving castle.)

What I find sad is that in America, Arrietty is marketed as a purely kids' cartoon when it has much deeper meanings and themes. I was the only College age person in the theater who wasn't a parent when I watched it in the movies, the themes might elude kids imo...

  • @MTSenario I completely agree I wish they wouldn't rate it for kids only, everyone should be able to see his movies and understand the true theme and moral behind the story

  • Sounds much better in Japanese.

  • Désolé c'est Cécile Corbel ;)

  • Just saw this movie today. I'm loving the Japanese version of this song so much better. In English, it sounded kind of Gaelic/Medieval-y. I didn't like it very much compared to this. All in all, though, the music and the movie were amazing. (Although the ending kind of seemed abrupt.)

  • <3 that is all i can say.

  • I think a frensh's version is better than the japenese version :) (et c'est Annie Cordel (oups si c'est pas ça ) qui l'a fait et elle et magnifique) :)

  • the Japanese version is much better that the English one!!

  • I"M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i just LOVE dis song!

  • 独特の雰囲気が素敵(*´∇`*)

  • Nama Song Pliz Help Pliz

    what nome the music ..

  • Wow, its brilliant;-P

  • Hey guys! Even though Miyazaki is slowly but surely retiring, Studio Ghibli still puts out great films that aren't as well known over here. His assistant makes some legit movies too.

  • I'm actually worried about the future movies, with miyazaki slowly retiring, whats going to happen when he completly retire? Will the US, be able to take in just studio Ghibli and their beautiful movies without Miyazaki-sans works to back it up? I don't know and I don't even want to think of that, so I'll just enjoy the current Ghiblli films, and the ones to come. :D

  • @yotsubafanfan Seen Tales Of EarthSea? (I think thats how it is spelled) It was made by Miyazaki's son, and I thought while it wasn't the strongest film from the studio, it was still a great flim.

  • @yotsubafanfan hm. Once an artist, always an artist. Think of it that way. Even though miyazaki may retire from directing 9thats alot of work on an old man!) he may stick around to offer his input, or people may contact hi mfor his input on films. His son is working there i believe, so you never know what will happen :3

  • This movie was fantastic! I suggest it to anyone, young or old.

    EDもgood♩

  • I love the themes of his movies so much! The idea of our race destroying everything we discover is so true, I hope people can learn from his films. I honestly think his movies could change the future if everyone saw them, we need to work harder to preserve nature and save the world. I'm sorry, but humans kind of suck for that.

  • @Tsukiyomisan What movie did you watch? Without humans the borrowers would have nothing.

  • @KairuHakubi then again, if they didn't exist then they would have no reason to be called borrowers. They'd probably advance in technology just like how we did and be able to live independently.

  • @Tsukiyomisan Hmm, I disagree, but who knows? it's a really interesting idea!

I always got the impression they descended from fairies who lost their magic..

but it'd be interesting in kind of a Rats of NIMH way to see them try living on their own and developing...

  • @KairuHakubi Sometimes I like to think of us as fairies subjected to evolution over the millenia; it's too bad science proves that wrong. Did you read the original book The Borrowers? There's no way I could have gotten that from the movie haha. Yes it would be reallly neat- who knows, maybe they actually do exist and when december 22nd hits, everyone dies except for them?

  • @Tsukiyomisan I actually haven't read the original books! I really should. All I've seen is the 90s live action movie, which was pretty great.

It's all definitely interesting to think about? I dunno if Mayans even had fairy stories.. they probably did.

  • @KairuHakubi Me too, it would be cool to read how the original author thought of them as. I'm curious to see if she actually implied some kind of romance between Sho and Arrietty.

I don't know either but I mean, all cultures must have some form of mythological creature right?

  • @Tsukiyomisan Actually the original boy was never named, he gets a different name in each adaptation.. and Arrietty has a little fling with Spiller but eventually settles with a guy named Peagreen that lives in a greenhouse (oddly they gave her a brother named Peagreen in one movie)

  • @KairuHakubi Spiller was really cute in a little boy kind of way in the movie! It would have been interesting to see other Borrowers too, and yeah that is weird that they would make it the same name. Do you happen to know why there is a UK version and American version? I mean, they're both in English, I didn't see the point of making 2 versions

  • @Tsukiyomisan I wish I could blame Disney, but it's been happening in a lot of things lately, including videogames.. a separate UK and US dub. No idea why, but it's more money for voice actors like me I guess!

  • @Tsukiyomisan maybe because the borrowewrs was orinally a british book, and the british felt jealous or something.:)

  • @Tsukiyomisan Maybe because American's are ignorant and can't understand their own language when it's spoken properly by the inventors of it

  • @TheSarcasticBiatch ...Is it bad that i am an American and i agree with this?...

  • @Tsukiyomisan We have enough power to destroy all life on earth; we just abuse that power.....animals deserve better because they're more simple and innocent.

  • @mikotorubychan yes! and they were here before us, we're technically living on their land

  • Love this song <3 Awesome movie too

  • @Sepherif #awkward... Miyazaki didn't direct Grave of the Fireflies... someone else from Studio Ghibli did...

  • @MusicPDG123 it was isao takahada

  • @figure8life It was Isao Takahatta, the person in charage on My Neighbor the Yamada,s and one of my personal favorites, Only Yesterday. :D

  • Please don't retire yet Miyazaki!!!! keep making amazing movies!!

  • i saw this movie and loved it! and i love this song!

  • Best argument for watching subbed over dubbed: if you're watching it dubbed the magic of the animation combined with the amazing language the god Miyazaki speaks will be lost and also replacing the song would be as tragic because it was "born" for only and only one purpose: to give a living soul to this amazing movie.

  • hey people i'm here again!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg!!!!! 2:15 best pic ever!!!! <3

  • I hope Miyazaki never retires...his works are absolutely amazing...! <3

  • @jamiebelly7905 I think he already did. This was directed by someone else

  • @jamiebelly7905 Unfortunately he is withdrawing from work bit by bit. The person who directed this movie was his heir. Miyazaki-san simply oversaw it a bit. Miyazaki hasn't actively directed a Studio Ghibli movie since Howl's Moving Castle.

  • I absolutely love Miyazaki's movies, they've all succeeded in making me cry. But, I just have to say that this one could have been better (it was probably just because it was dubbed and a bit too disney-fied) but the drawings and animation are as beautiful and amazing as always!

  • Miu Sakamoto should have sung the Japanse version of this song. Not that Cecile Corbel's voice is bad though.

  • i just cannot get enough of dis song!

  • Beautiful song! I really love it! All the music for Arrietty was gorgeous!

  • 4 people must be fumigated

  • The same singer did like five versions of this song in different languages, and they all sound pretty great. She deserves credit.

  • beautiful I really liked this movie, is so cute <3

  • i can't really understand what she's saying in English or Japanese, but I LOVE DA SONG ANYWAYS!!!!!

  • I want to watch the movie :'(

  • @spiralcosmetics you'll get your chance.

  • The good thing about them dubbing it is the fact that it'll show in Theaters! Face it, nobody will ever release an Anime movie in theaters across the US if its only English Subbed.

  • @JohnForester15 It's not uncommon outside of the US. Especially for documentaries and such but any kind of film really. It's just that most Americans dislike foreign films which I never understood to be honest.

  • @JohnForester15 ikr. unless it's at some kind of festival

  • People really need to quit being so pretentious and accept the English dub for what it is.

  • she has a kinda thick accent when she sings Japanese, but it doesn't really matter still a very nice song. btw, the UK dub of the movie is a lot better than the US dub, it's not the same check it out.

  • oh my gosh the japanese main song is soooo much better....why did they ruin it for me in the theathers ... >.< stupid Disney......argggg

  • @suzannelove shame on YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @AnimeFreak2508 Nope no "shame on (me)" is going to change my opinion ... stupid english names.... ahhh the globalization >____< waaaaaa

  • @suzannelove both versions are awesome

  • Miyazaki is just a god. Plain and simple. Seen all his movies so far and they are the best. No other has made me cry quite like Grave of the Fireflies.

This movie had it's effect too, in comic terms, it blended my soul.....again! Especially loved the soundtracks, even in dub.

  • @Sepherif I agree with you about Miyazaki, I love all of his movies, but this movie is not from Miyazaki the same with Grave of the Fireflies. This Movie's director is Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Grave of the Fireflies is from Isao Takahata. I say it because when I first saw the trailer of Karigurashi no Arrietty I thought Miyazaki was the director and I was wrong.

  • @Sepherif MAN AT THE END OF THIS MOVIE I LAFFED AND CRIED AT THE SAME TIME U JUST EARNED YOURSELF ANOTHER LIKE MY FRIEND

  • @Sepherif amen to that

miyazayi is a god ( kinda sad he went to disney for dubs )

only movie that isnt great was ponyo

  • @darkness585 Disney is the best chance of getting the most out of the movies. If it weren't for Disney, none of the movies would have gotten a theatrical release. They were in relative obscurity here when Fox Video was distributing. Disney also agreed to only make minor edits like changing coffee to tea; the animation itself is untouched. Some of Miyazaki's movies wouldn't have even been brought over if it weren't for the Disney deal.

  • @JonathonWolf princeess momoke was released over here by miramax.

  • @darkness585 see, I thought the only one that was kinda weird was Tales from Earthsea, but his son directed that.

  • @Sepherif Actually, Miyazaki didn't direct Grave of the Fireflies, it was Takahata. They are both studio Ghibli, but Miyazaki did help work on it.

  • @Sepherif Grave of the Fireflies is by Miyazaki?!

  • @Sepherif Actually Miyazaki didn't make Grave of the Fireflies. His friend (Who is the artist)was in another company before Studio Ghibili (Sorry if I spelled it wrong XD) But I agree with you he is god! *q* I loved every movie from his and the music is so godly! I love them so much! *q*

  • Why are we arguing about Sub vs. Dub? It's all based of personal preference. Let's please not bother on which is better and just enjoy the music.

  • @RisuchanX4 YEA!!!U GO girl?boy?i'm pretty sure girl, anyways u right

  • @AnimeFreak2508 Indeed I am female :D haha Why thank you.

  • @RisuchanX4 u are welcome

  • @RisuchanX4 You're right, it is about personal preference. Yes, there were a couple of changes I didn't like but I put that aside and I enjoyed the movie. I liked the English dub but I prefer to watch it in Japanese. Just saying =D

This song is great, isn't it?

  • @thebaks04 Thank you and yes it's a freaking beautiful song! :D

  • Comment removed

  • Come now, the Disney dub is actually quite good. It's vastly superior to 99% of the anime series dubs coming out.

  • this movie is AWESOME!!!

  • Comment removed

  • A beautiful and touching movie <3 Though, I wish it was longer!

  • Saw the movie last Friday and it was AMAZING! Although I'm not a fan of English dubs, I still enjoyed the movie.

Now I can't stop listening to this song (or humming it) =D

  • Best argument for watching dubbed over subbed: if you're watching it subbed, you're spending time reading the subtitles that you could be spending admiring the animation and visual design.

  • @ke1tar93 Lol. Sometimes if the voice acting is horrible, you'd rather watch it subbed; but in this case, the english dub doesn't sound so bad. ;D So yeah. I guess dubbed over subbed for now.

  • @ke1tar93 everyone has their own opinion, for me, i prefer the original japanese. I can read the sub and enjoy the picture since most people can understand haft of wat they're saying. ^^- ( trained cartoon watcher >:D )

  • @ke1tar93 Or you could just watch it in Japanese without subs like a normal person...

  • @ke1tar93

You're slightly exaggerating how long it takes to read a line. The voice acting is far better in Japanese, anyway. Other than that, you can learn how to speak Japanese and then just watch it without subs.

  • @ke1tar93

Speaking about anime in general, btw.

  • @ke1tar93 i agree with you completely

  • I swear- hearing this song just made me feel happy, and then depressed that real life isn't as beautiful as in a Ghibli film, and then angry that I can't own this movie for four more months.

  • @ke1tar93

But thats exactly what this movie tries to show you! The world IS beautiful, if you are just willing to experience it from the same perspective you had, when you were a child.

The "smaller" you get, the more you can discover in this world!

  • @ke1tar93

but..ghibli movies are a part of real life, so sometimes life is as beautiful as in ghibli film, while your watching them..i guess xD

  • i love this song, i love this movie, but im curious - why not Joe Hisaishi? don't get me wrong, i DO love the song, but i also love Mr. Hisaishi's works.

  • i just saw the movie and i just got back like 20 minutes ago it was beautiful and amazing i loved every second it was heart touching

  • miyazaki, you've done it again <3 two millions thumbs up

  • I saw this on Saturday ^.^ it was awesome :D

  • Why do they even bother dubbing this? It's better in japanese anyway!! Seriously, give it up, Disney!

  • @GlassesCat101 Maybe your little brain didn't know, but Disney's dubs of Miyazaki's movies have always been amazing. Ever seen Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Wind, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, etc? ALL DUBBED BY DISNEY. Miyazaki TRUSTED Disney to dub his works. Sure, the quality of Disney actors today sucks (back during the dubs of Miyazaki's earlier works, a lot of the actors weren't Disney Channel stars), but Disney has never failed to deliver a great English dub.

  • @SakuraMochiKitty i MEANT the song. Also, I was just stating my opinion, but maybe YOUR little brain doesn't quite understand what that means. Just calm down, it's no big deal.

  • @GlassesCat101

The same girl did the song in English, German, Italian, and French; she is not a Japanese singer. And the dub was excellent, by the way. John Lasseter of Pixar is a huge fan of Miyazaki's works and he's the one primarily in charge of the dub. And if it's good enough for Pixar it's good enough for me, considering their movies have been way better than bog-standard Disney lately.

  • @IStarboyI While I'm glad you pointed out that Ghibli and Pixar are excellent, and that Lasseter loves Miyazaki's work, you suggested that Tangled and Princess and the Frog were bog-standard. I am disappoint.

  • @ke1tar93

Actually, as a big fan of Sleeping Beauty and Mulan, I do pretty much dislike the new Disney Princess movies. They're trying too hard to be "ethically acceptable" in this new world where people get sued for not representing girls in a politically correct way. By the way, the Princess and the Frog was supposed to be "Disney's first ethnic princess".... What the hell are Mulan, Jasmine, and Pocahontas then?

  • @IStarboyI Possibly, but I'd be hard pressed to not say that Rapunzel was in their top 3 or so best protagonists they made.

Also I think the whole "first ethnic princess thing" was less Disney's promotion and more the general press.

I do love Sleeping Beauty and like Mulan, but the last few films have been quite strong.

  • @GlassesCat101 Because not everyone likes subtitles. I swear you anime fans are the biggest group of self-loathing fucks around. Instead of thanking Disney for making it possible for for this to be distributed in the US, you bitch because the theatres didn't play it in Japanese. Would it have been better in Japanese? Sure. But subtitled movies, especially children's ones, tank here in the U.S. So they did what they had to do to allow it to reach a larger audience.

  • @joiles01 I was only talking about the song, so keep your aggressiveness in check, would you? It's only a matter of opinion, so what exactly makes you think you can bitch at me for having a different opinion than you?

One more thing. Dubbing is a good way to reach out to a larger audience, but I've been to movie theatres where they had different rooms for each movie that was in another language; one for the movie in that language with subs and one for the dubbed version. Just sayin'.

  • @GlassesCat101 That would cost too much money on the part of the movie theaters. And as I said, the same girl, Cecile Corbel, did the song in multiple languages. Disney did not dub the song.

  • @IStarboyI ooooooooh, okay.

  • @joiles01 Yep, we typical americans are too fucking stupid and lazy to read subtitles. And learning another language! ... that's waaaay out of the question.

  • @joiles01 I think it's really good and educational when you use subs instead of dub version with children. When I where small a lot of things was with subs. I've learned a lot of english trough it when I were at group 8 first time english class I got a lot of 10's for almost all my tests. But that was because of the subs and germany uses dubs and I can see with a lot of them that they now less english then most dutch people.

  • @GlassesCat101 I agree! I was especially not happy with the name changes for a couple of characters.

  • @thebaks04 I know, right?? Like "Shaun"!! Where the eff did that come from?!??

  • @GlassesCat101 Or "Aunt Jessica" ... I mean, really?

  • @thebaks04 Shame on you Disney, shame!

  • @GlassesCat101 The huge irony of it all is that a lot of modern Japanese is just bastardized English :P

  • @GlassesCat101 Because English speaking audiences like to actually -watch- a movie and not stare at subtitles for an hour and a half. Duh.

  • @ShrikeArghast I hardly consider that an excuse. That's just laziness, narrow-mindedness, and stupidity. Many of the best films I have seen have been dubs, and the original version of this film is still better.

  • @ShrikeArghast Yes it's true, there are a lot of people that like to watch movies in English dub. I understand that but there are those who prefer to watch the movie in Japanese instead. I'm not trying to argue with anyone I'm just stating an opinion, that's all =)

  • @ShrikeArghast You don't stare at the subtitles for an hour and a half unless you are a super slow reader lol... Why it is better to watch it in Japanese is because Japanese give a rhythm to the movie as it was made for it.

  • @GlassesCat101

    Weeaboo

  • @GlassesCat101 Or at least hire a competent VO cast instead of relying on 'who's next' on the funumation check list. :/

  • @GlassesCat101 Dubs are not always bad...Plus, this songs English singer is the same women!

  • @GlassesCat101 The reason why they dub it is for the younger audience and also though subbing it would be find but, with sub it's more difficult because if you're watching it and it's seem that you missed something important you to rewind and read it again to get story. Not everyone can read fast or good. Pay in mind that audience isn't just you. There are people who may have dyslexia or have bad eye sight or other eye problems. Forgive me for saying you sound very ignorant in this comment.

  • @RisuchanX4 I probably should've rephrased myself. The point I was really trying to make was that Disney's dubs.... aren't always that good. I mean, they even changed the names of some of the characters in this one. Sure, it might be easier for younger audiences in america to remember names like Shawn or Jessica, but I wish they wouldn't make changes like that. I feel like they may have been slacking off a bit. But that's just my opinion, so I won't force it on you. I prefer subs anyway.

  • @GlassesCat101 Yeah personally, I don't mind either really. But, thank you for the response.

  • @RisuchanX4 no problem. It was nice talking to you.^^

  • @GlassesCat101

strongly agree. Actually I don't like the English version.....there is always something lost in the process of translating.....

  • @6918vongola yeah, i know what u mean

  • @GlassesCat101 The UK version was pretty good.

  • @GlassesCat101 people have their opinions i like the english one but everyone has opinions.

  • i waited a year for this movie all because of this song but i still really wish this movie had joe hisiashi

  • This shit sounds the best in japanese

  • I was wondering where i heard this song in the movie. I was like I didn't know there was a song of arietty? then i realized it played at the end of the movie. xD

  • I really do love this movie :D Reminded me of the other ghibli movies, like the entrance to the house looked like the one from Totoro. Fantastic movie!

  • i just watched this movie and i cant get enough of this song! i loved it the moment i heard it in the theaters!! :D

  • Just watched it and it was only ok. I think they may have put more of their efforts toward Ni No Kuni

  • Just watched the movie for the first time. I love it. Ghibli is the best movie studio out there EVER!!!

  • @Axel9406 Just watched the movie too. The movie was FANTASTIC ! Although it has a very sad Ending.

  • @AnimeGenderBender I just saw the movie and it is fantastic. Yes it does have a sad but sweet ending. I have not read the books though. I'll try to get them soon.

  • kawaii! watashi wa daisuke

  • hee, I'm also turning 14 soon too^^ very soon in one month

  • @padeelor Enjoy your 14th birthday~ and all the ones that come after as well. <3 I remember my 14th~ they were good times. Whether good times or bad, enjoy every single year you have they come and they go, but they'll be yours to keep forever. Let them be happy ones.

  • @strikerk Thank you :D

  • question! is arrietty originally japanese? cuz, i've seen commercials from disney, that there is english...

  • @mewXxtaytay Disney doesn't do 2D animations anymore. This movie was made by a Japanese studio called Studio Ghibli and released in Japan in 2010. Disney usually is the company that ports Studio Ghibli films to the USA since they're of such high quality they resemble what Disney USED to do...

  • @Sukuraidogai they stilll do 2D animations... my little brother watches them.. like uh.. that that one show... uh... idk wut its called...

  • @mewXxtaytay The most recent one they created was The Princess and the Frog, then they went and rebooted Winnie the Pooh for some reason.

  • @Sukuraidogai no, they have little tv shows that are 2D

  • @mewXxtaytay I'm not talking about kiddie shows, I'm talking about the amazing 2D animated movies they used to make. They're not prevalent anymore, replaced by mostly 3D crap because it's faster and cheaper to make while making generally the same gross profit.

I'm happy that Studio Ghibli films are being led to American audiences, but I'm not happy that Disney is using it as an excuse to not make their own 2D films.

  • @Sukuraidogai Finally,someone who understands!

  • @Sukuraidogai Well Winnie the Pooh was released last year and Princess + the frog a little before that, both 2D and gorgeous.

  • @pixjst1: I just saw it too! Definitely buying movie and the soundtrack. :D @BlackHayate95: Thanks for uploading!

  • I just came from seeing Arrietty and it was awesome. I might be going back to the movies and see it again. I'll tell you one thing you don't want to miss seeing this movie. In fact I'm going to be buy it when it comes out. I can't wait!

  • i can draw her too!
